“Sync error” in EA SPORTS FC 25 can mean an EA service or sign-in problem, a launcher issue, or a conflict between local and cloud saves. Start with service status, account checks, and a full restart. If FC 25 asks which save to use, stop and compare the timestamps before choosing: neither the local copy nor the cloud copy is automatically the newest.
Identify where the sync error happens
The wording and timing help narrow down the cause. A Steam or EA app error before launch is different from a console asking which saved data to synchronize, and neither is the same as missing Ultimate Team content.

FC 25’s local profile files and a launcher’s cloud synchronization are not interchangeable. Deleting in-game files is not the same as clearing the EA app cache, and reinstalling the game does not guarantee recovery of deleted saves.
Check service status before changing saves
Check EA’s connection and service-status guidance, along with the status page for PlayStation Network, Xbox, or Steam as applicable. If other EA games or online services are also failing, wait for service to return before changing local or cloud data. An outage can cause a temporary sync error; do not assume one is happening without checking.

Try the low-risk fixes first
- Record the exact message and code. Note whether it appeared in EA app, Steam, FC 25, or the console’s saved-data screen, and whether it happened before launch, while loading a profile, or after changing devices.
- Quit FC 25 and both PC launchers. Close Steam and the EA app completely. On Windows, use Task Manager to close a launcher that remains running.
- Restart the PC or console. Reopen the platform launcher first, sign into the intended account, then start FC 25 once and let any synchronization finish.
- Check account identity. Confirm that the platform account and EA Account are the ones associated with the game and progress. Do not unlink accounts as a quick fix.
- Temporarily remove possible interference. If the issue continues, retry without a VPN, download manager, overlay, or other software that may interfere with the launcher or connection.
These steps reset a session; they are not a guaranteed fix for a service outage, a conflicting save, or missing data.
Clear the EA app cache and repair the PC installation
Clear the EA app cache
On Windows, open the EA app and select the three-dash menu in the upper-left, then Help > App recovery > Clear cache. If the EA app will not open, use the Windows Start > All Apps > EA > App Recovery > Clear Cache path instead. EA says cache clearing may help when the app is stuck offline, downloads or updates are stuck, or games appear missing from the library. It cannot fix an EA service outage or recover an overwritten save. Follow EA’s cache-clearing instructions if your app labels differ.
Repair FC 25 in the EA app
Open FC 25’s game tile or options menu in the EA app and choose Repair if that option is available. Let the file check finish, then restart the launcher and try once. EA recommends repairing game files for games that will not load in the EA app; see its download, installation, and loading troubleshooting.

Verify FC 25 files in Steam
- Open your Steam Library and right-click EA SPORTS FC 25.
- Select Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of game files.
- Wait for verification to finish, then reopen Steam and the EA app before launching.
Use the FC 25 entry in your own library; support pages and package identifiers can vary by edition or region. Steam’s FC 25 technical-support page may require you to sign in. Verifying installation files does not restore a deleted save, and Steam Cloud remains separate from EA app synchronization.
Resolve a local-versus-cloud save conflict safely
If FC 25, Steam, or your console asks which copy to use, do not select one at random or keep relaunching in the hope the prompt disappears. A new launch or save may complicate the conflict or allow the wrong copy to overwrite the newer one.
- Stop launching the game. Close FC 25 and the relevant launcher or console session.
- Check the prompt’s timestamps and device labels. Compare them with where and when you last played. Choose only the copy that matches your newest confirmed progress; “cloud” is not always newer than “local,” or vice versa.
- Back up local data where possible. On PC, copy relevant save data before changing cloud settings or replacing files. There is no single save-folder path that is safe to give for every launcher, Windows profile, and installation.
- Resolve the prompt once. Reopen the launcher or console and choose the identified copy. Do not toggle synchronization off and on unless you know which files will be replaced.
- Check the result before syncing again. Launch FC 25 once and confirm that the Career save, settings, or other data you need is present. Only then allow another cloud synchronization.
If the game opens with old progress, avoid creating new progress that could be uploaded over the newer copy. Close the game if possible, check the active accounts, and use the platform’s saved-data tools to compare or restore the known-newer copy.

Use FC 25’s corrupt-file procedure only as a later step
If the game itself loads but profile files appear corrupt, EA’s in-game route is Customise > Profile > Delete. This is a file-deletion step, not a general first response to a sync prompt. Follow EA’s corrupt-file instructions and preserve the exceptions below.
- Keep files containing “Career” in the name. EA says these Career files cannot be restored or redownloaded through this procedure.
- Keep “Online Profiles.”
- Keep “Personal Settings 1” unless you accept losing Skill Game progress and your custom controller layout.
Do not delete every FC 25 file to solve a cloud conflict. If the save you want is missing, deleting more data can reduce the options for recovery.

PlayStation and Xbox: review saved data before deleting anything
PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5
Close FC 25 fully, restart the console, and check PlayStation Network status. If the console presents a saved-data synchronization choice, compare the available copy and timestamp with the device on which you last played. Review the console’s saved-data tools before deleting anything; menu labels and paths can differ between PS4, PS5, and firmware versions. Do not delete cloud data unless you have identified it as the copy you intend to remove.

Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S
Close FC 25 from the Xbox guide, restart the console, and check Xbox service status. If Xbox asks to synchronize local or cloud data, use the displayed information and your play history to identify the newest confirmed copy. Never choose Delete everywhere as a generic troubleshooting step. Dashboard labels can vary by console and software version.
The message “You have more than one storage device with an FC 25 profile” points to multiple profile states rather than an ordinary cache problem. An EA forum report documents this message, but community workarounds are not validated for every platform. Do not apply a platform-specific workaround to another console or delete every save by default.

For a cross-device issue or missing online progression, sign in to EA Account settings and inspect Connected Accounts. EA’s account-linking guidance warns that moving a linked platform to another EA Account may not be immediately possible, so do not unlink casually.

A sync error does not mean all FC 25 progress transfers between every platform. Ultimate Team data is account-based, while local modes and settings depend on saved files. Account linking may help identify an online account issue, but it does not promise to restore a missing Career Mode save. For Ultimate Team, verify the EA Account, linked platform, service status, edition, and whether the missing item is online content before deleting local profile files.
When to reinstall or contact EA Support
If the EA app continues to fail after cache clearing and game repair, EA identifies authentication, network, and corrupt-app-file problems as common error-code categories. Use EA app error-code troubleshooting to choose the relevant path; reinstall the EA app only after less disruptive steps have failed. For a persistent or unclear error, contact EA through its technical-issues hub.
Include the exact error text or code, platform and launcher, operating system if on PC, when it started, which account is signed in, and whether the game is asking you to choose between saves. If a save is missing or the prompt loops, stop repeated launches and explain which device last had the progress you need. Do not send your password or account security codes.
