If that does not work, check the channel’s livestream eligibility, then distinguish a rejected key from an RTMPS connection problem, an encoder-format error, or a network timeout. YouTube’s published guidance describes general account and encoder requirements, not a special authentication rule for India.
1. Refresh the YouTube stream key
YouTube’s first-line advice for an error starting a third-party encoder is to get a new or current stream key in Live Control Room and update the encoder. YouTube describes stream keys as “like your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Manage live stream settings · Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create > Go live to open Live Control Room.
- Open the Stream tab and copy the key for the intended live stream.
- Replace the key configured in FFmpeg, taking care not to add spaces or copy extra characters, then try starting the stream again.
If the key may have been exposed or is stale, a channel owner or manager can reset it in the live-stream settings. Update FFmpeg immediately after resetting. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
2. Confirm the channel can livestream
A correct key will not resolve an account restriction. YouTube’s general eligibility guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube also states a minimum age of 16 for livestreaming. These are YouTube account conditions, not India-specific FFmpeg settings; the help pages do not state a publication year for these thresholds. See Get started with live streaming.

3. Check the server URL and key pairing
FFmpeg needs the YouTube Live server URL and the stream key associated with the intended Live Control Room stream. Confirm both values there rather than relying on an old command or configuration file. Do not transpose the server URL and key fields, and avoid copying surrounding whitespace. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance explains the server URL and key fields: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
4. Decide whether the error is really authentication
The wording of the error is a useful clue. A key rejection points first to the key and account state; SSL, connection, or timeout messages point to transport. A format error is a separate ingest problem. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance recommends checking the encoder’s local output and outbound connectivity, and using the latest encoder version. If a connectivity test indicates a problem, investigate the network with your ISP.

Invalid stream key or encoder-startup error
Replace the configured key with the current one from Live Control Room, then verify the channel is eligible. If the error remains, confirm that the key belongs to the stream whose server URL FFmpeg is using.
RTMPS connection timed out or SSL error
Use the RTMPS URL shown in Live Control Room and confirm the protocol is rtmps. For the SSL and timeout cases covered by YouTube, try port 443 and verify that your FFmpeg build supports RTMPS. These checks address transport and encoder compatibility rather than an invalid key. See Encrypt your stream using RTMPS.

Incorrect stream format
If YouTube reports an incorrect format, its error guidance calls for H.264 video and AAC audio. That diagnosis does not by itself mean the stream key is wrong. Consult YouTube’s live-stream error messages and adjust the encoder output accordingly.
What the India-specific guidance does—and does not—say
The YouTube Help guidance cited here gives general eligibility, key, RTMPS, format, and connectivity checks; it does not identify a special authentication requirement for Indian channels or require an India-only key, port, or FFmpeg option. If a correctly configured RTMPS connection times out on a particular Indian network, test outbound connectivity and ask the ISP about that network path. The cited guidance does not establish that India-wide blocking is the cause.
