Then narrow the problem by platform, launcher, and symptom before changing settings. The detailed steps below come mainly from The Coalition’s open-beta FAQ, so treat those specific fixes as beta-era guidance: patches and current support instructions may have changed since then.
E-Day entered worldwide early access on October 1, 2026, ahead of its worldwide launch on October 6, according to Xbox Wire. It is listed for Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Steam. Check official support and Xbox service status for live guidance and outages.
Start with the checks most likely to explain crashes and stuttering
- Confirm the game is on an SSD. The Coalition’s open-beta FAQ says an SSD is required and that mechanical hard drives are unsupported. An HDD may cause severe loading problems, missing assets, stuttering, and crashes. If the game is on an HDD, move or reinstall it to a compatible SSD before trying graphics tweaks. This is beta-era guidance; check current support instructions if the problem continues. The Coalition open-beta FAQ.
- Check the current graphics-driver requirement for your GPU. Download drivers from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel rather than relying on an old installer. The beta FAQ listed NVIDIA 610.74 or newer, AMD 26.7.1, and Intel 101.8864, and said older NVIDIA drivers would prevent launch. These are historical beta requirements, not confirmed requirements for the current early-access build. Use the current official support page for live requirements.
- Write down the exact symptom and error before changing settings. Note whether the problem occurs at startup or during play, your platform, PC storefront (Xbox app or Steam), GPU model and driver, and the exact error text or code. The official FAQ gives different advice for different launchers, errors, and hardware; recording what you see helps avoid applying an unrelated workaround.
- Change one thing at a time. After each change, relaunch and check whether the same problem remains. This is a troubleshooting method, not a game-specific fix, but it makes it easier to identify which adjustment mattered.
Is shader compilation the cause of a long startup or a stutter?
Shader compilation can make the first launch take longer or cause stutter while the game builds shaders. That is different from a crash, a recurring hitch unrelated to compilation, or a game that never progresses past startup. Give a first compilation time to finish; if the delay recurs every launch, check for a platform- or GPU-specific issue rather than assuming every slow launch is normal.
Windows PC and Advanced Shader Delivery
Microsoft’s DirectX team says Advanced Shader Delivery (ASD) can provide precompiled shaders with the game download, reducing CPU shader work at launch and runtime-compilation stutter. Microsoft reports approximately 95% less shader compilation time for E-Day when ASD is working. That figure is Microsoft’s reported comparison of compilation time—not an independent benchmark or a promise of higher frame rates. The stated conditions include Windows 11 version 24H2 or later and supported hardware and drivers; Microsoft also says to install the Xbox PC app before downloading the game to experience ASD. Intel Arc shader recompilation
The beta FAQ noted that Intel Arc cards could recompile shaders on every launch, increasing startup time. Microsoft’s separate ASD announcement discusses broader support, but it does not establish that every Arc card and configuration currently receives ASD. If you use Arc and compilation repeats, check your driver and current support guidance before treating it as a general performance failure. The Coalition’s beta notes.
Fixes for PC launch errors and crashes
LowLevelFatalError in the Xbox PC app
The beta FAQ directs players who encounter LowLevelFatalError in the Xbox PC app to Microsoft’s Gaming Services Repair Tool. This is a beta-era remedy; follow the tool’s current instructions and check the game support page if it does not help. Do not assume this advice applies to the same error in Steam or on Xbox console. OBS or antivirus may interfere
- OBS: The beta FAQ says versions older than 29.0.0 could crash the game while recording and recommends OBS 29.0.0 or newer. If OBS is running, update it and test without recording. This is a beta-era compatibility note, not confirmation that OBS is the cause of every crash.
- Norton or Comodo: The FAQ reports that these products may block game executables. Prefer adding the verified game executable to the security product’s allow list rather than leaving antivirus protection disabled. Restore any temporary change promptly and consult the vendor’s instructions if needed.

Intel Arc A580 or B580 performance
The beta FAQ says performance may be significantly reduced on Arc A580 and B580 cards when Resizable BAR (ReBAR) is disabled. It advises checking ReBAR and Above 4G Decoding in BIOS and following your system or motherboard manufacturer’s directions. BIOS settings and menus vary, so do not change them based on a guessed menu path. The beta FAQ.

Steam controller not recognized?
The beta FAQ listed recognition of third-party controllers on Steam as an issue under investigation. Some players reported success by connecting the intended controller before launching and unplugging USB mouse and keyboard connections. Treat this as a reported beta workaround, not a guaranteed fix; reconnect devices after testing if needed. The Coalition open-beta FAQ.

Series S hitch after a long Horde Siege session
For a hitch after a long Horde Siege session in Quality Mode on Xbox Series S, the beta FAQ’s workaround is to fully quit the game and restart it. This note is specific to that reported situation; it is not a general fix for every console crash or performance issue. The Coalition open-beta FAQ.

Specific beta error codes
These remedies apply to the named beta errors only. Do not use them as generic crash fixes:

Online play blocked by an account mismatch
The beta FAQ says online play may be blocked if the Xbox app and Microsoft Store are signed in to different accounts. Check that both use the intended account. This is an online-access issue, not an established explanation for a local crash. The Coalition open-beta FAQ.
When the problem persists
- Check the game’s current support page and the Xbox service-status page for updated instructions or a service issue.
- Keep the exact error, platform, storefront, driver version, and steps that reproduce the problem together when contacting support.
- If a recent change coincided with the problem, reverse that one change and test again before trying another.
The beta FAQ reflects a test build, while early-access patches can replace its compatibility notes. Use current official guidance where it differs from the beta-era details above.
