To fix lag in VALORANT on an NVIDIA GPU, first identify whether you have low or unstable FPS, delayed input, screen tearing, or network problems. Those symptoms have different causes, and an NVIDIA graphics card alone does not mean the GPU is the bottleneck. Use VALORANT’s performance graphs to guide changes, then test one group of settings at a time.
Identify what kind of lag you’re experiencing
Start with the symptom rather than changing every graphics option. Low or fluctuating FPS points to rendering or system performance; delayed input can persist even when FPS is stable; tearing or uneven motion may involve refresh rate and VSync; rubber-banding, connection indicators, or ping spikes point to the network.
In VALORANT, open Settings > Video > Stats and enable the performance graphs. Riot explains that a PC can be CPU-bound or GPU-bound, so lowering graphics settings may not help if the CPU is limiting performance. The graphs help you decide whether graphics changes are a sensible next step. See Riot’s VALORANT Game and Network Instability Basics.
If FPS is low or unstable, adjust VALORANT’s graphics settings
Riot’s guidance is that “There’s no single perfect setup for every PC.” In Settings > Video > Graphics Quality, lower a few options, then test before changing more. Riot identifies these settings to evaluate:

Test in a Custom Game before joining a match. You can also try Fullscreen display mode. If performance is satisfactory, restore visual settings selectively so you keep the appearance you prefer. These changes can help when rendering load is the problem; they are not a guaranteed fix for a CPU-bound system. Riot’s step-by-step guide is Optimize Graphics Settings for Better FPS – Windows & Mac.
Remove accidental NVIDIA Control Panel overrides
An NVIDIA Control Panel profile can override settings chosen by the game, and Riot says that some driver settings can interfere with VALORANT. To remove accidental overrides, open NVIDIA Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings and restore the defaults, then let VALORANT control its graphics settings.
This is a troubleshooting reset, not a universal performance preset. The cited guidance does not establish that every player should force a particular Power Management mode, Low Latency Mode, or global 3D setting. Riot’s instructions appear in Troubleshooting Game Crashes in VALORANT.

If input feels delayed, consider NVIDIA Reflex
FPS and system latency describe different things: FPS measures how many frames the GPU produces, while latency concerns the delay between an input and its on-screen effect. NVIDIA’s VALORANT instructions place Reflex in the game’s settings. Consider enabling it if input delay is your concern, but do not expect it to be a guaranteed FPS increase or assume it will save a particular number of milliseconds on every setup. NVIDIA’s instructions and explanation are in How to use the NVIDIA Reflex Analyzer.
If motion looks wrong, check refresh rate and VSync
Confirm that Windows or NVIDIA Control Panel is using the refresh rate you intend for your monitor. VALORANT and the NVIDIA driver can both control VSync; Riot describes leaving control to the application or forcing a driver-level setting. Try changes individually and judge motion on your own display. Turning VSync off can cause visible screen tearing, so the preferred setting depends on your display and tolerance for tearing. See Riot’s Refresh Rate and VSYNC – VALORANT Support.
If you rubber-band or see connection symptoms, troubleshoot the network
Network instability is separate from GPU rendering performance. If Wi-Fi is troublesome, check the wireless and cable connections and try wired Ethernet. A wired connection will not fix low FPS, a rendering bottleneck, or input delay caused elsewhere.

Riot’s network guide also covers VPNs and proxies, firewall permissions, DNS, IP renewal, and router port forwarding. Use those steps only when the symptoms point to a connection problem, and follow Riot’s instructions rather than changing network settings as a first response to graphics lag: Network Connection Troubleshooting.

- Identify the symptom and inspect Settings > Video > Stats to check whether CPU or GPU load appears limiting.
- If FPS is the issue, adjust a few graphics options or test Fullscreen, then compare results in a Custom Game.
- If settings seem overridden, restore NVIDIA Control Panel defaults under Manage 3D Settings.
- If input delay is the issue, test NVIDIA Reflex; if motion is the issue, check refresh rate and test VSync.
- If connection indicators, ping spikes, or rubber-banding are the issue, troubleshoot the network and test Ethernet when Wi-Fi is unreliable.
Keep changes that improve the specific symptom without an unacceptable visual or display tradeoff; revert changes that do not help.
