If services are working, confirm the game is fully installed and updated, update PS5 system software, then restart the console. These are official troubleshooting steps, not a guaranteed fix; work through the more disruptive options only if the crash continues.
1. Check for a known issue or outage
Before changing console data, see whether Amazon Games lists a known issue and check the live status of the game’s worlds and PlayStation Network. A service interruption or maintenance can look like a local launch problem, and server information can change, so check it when the crash occurs rather than relying on an older status report.
Amazon Games’ status page lists regions and world states such as online, offline, maintenance, and full. Check the region and world relevant to your character.
2. Verify the game and PS5 are up to date
- Make sure New World: Aeternum has finished downloading and installing.
- On the PS5 home screen, highlight the game, press the Options button, and select Check for Update. Install an update if one is available.
- Check for and install the latest available PS5 system software update.
Amazon Games includes the installation and version checks in its PS5 crash and launch troubleshooting.

3. Restart the PS5
Restart the console after checking updates, then launch the game again. This is a low-impact step and comes before save testing or reinstalling in Amazon Games’ console guidance.
4. Test whether the existing save is involved
If it still crashes, try launching the game from the beginning without the existing save, following Amazon Games’ instructions. This is a diagnostic test for possible save corruption; it does not establish that the save is the cause, nor that save corruption is a common cause. Be careful not to overwrite or delete a save you intend to keep.

5. Reinstall the game
If the earlier checks do not help, delete New World: Aeternum and download it again. Both Amazon Games and PlayStation’s game launch guidance recommend deleting and redownloading a game that will not start. Reinstallation takes time and is not a guaranteed remedy.
- If the game is installed on USB extended storage, PlayStation advises moving the game data to PS5 internal storage.
- PlayStation also lists restoring licenses as an option. Its guide suggests trying a wired connection during reinstall if possible; these are general troubleshooting options, not proven fixes for every New World crash.
6. Try Safe Mode only if the crash persists
Amazon Games and PlayStation list clearing the PS5 cache and rebuilding the database through Safe Mode as later troubleshooting steps. Use PlayStation’s Safe Mode instructions to follow the current console procedure. These steps are more involved than restarting or checking updates; do not select a reset or reinstall option by mistake.

7. Reserve a console reset or system-software reinstall for last
Amazon Games lists backing up data and reinstalling system software through Safe Mode among escalation options for launch problems. A PS5 reset erases data saved on console storage. Back up anything important before attempting a reset or system-software reinstall, and do not treat either as a routine first step or a guaranteed game fix.
8. Contact support with details if nothing works
If the game still crashes after these steps, contact PlayStation or Amazon Games support. Include any error code, what happens immediately before the crash, the steps that reproduce it, and a screenshot or video if you can capture one. PlayStation’s launch troubleshooting guide recommends providing this kind of information.

Account for the game’s announced end date
The PlayStation Store listing says New World: Aeternum requires a persistent internet connection, has no offline mode, is no longer available for purchase, and is scheduled to be taken offline across all platforms on January 31, 2027. Consider that announced service end date when deciding how much time to spend on lengthy troubleshooting.
