Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →If your YouTube music stream sounds doubled, first check whether OBS is capturing the same audio device twice: once in Settings > Audio and again as an Audio Input/Output Capture scene source. Keep one capture path for that device, then make a short recording and check the YouTube playback before leaving a continuous stream running.
Find out where the echo is happening
“Echo” can describe two different problems: the audio in the stream mix is doubled, or the sound only seems doubled in your headphones while monitoring. First identify where you hear it; that determines what to inspect next.
- OBS mix or recording is doubled: Look for duplicate capture paths in OBS.
- Recording sounds clean but headphones sound doubled: Investigate monitoring playback or device routing. The monitored output may be getting captured again, depending on your devices and operating system.
- YouTube playback is doubled: Check the OBS capture setup and confirm with a fresh recording and playback test.
In OBS’s mixer, note which sources show activity while the music plays. Check whether the same output appears as both a global Desktop Audio device and a scene-level Audio Output Capture source.
Remove duplicate audio capture in OBS
OBS warns that an Audio Input/Output Capture source can cause echo if the same device is also selected in Settings > Audio. Its guidance is to disable global devices when adding those devices directly to scenes. See the OBS Audio Sources guide.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- In the audio mixer, identify the source or sources that react when the music plays.
- Open Settings > Audio and note any global audio devices selected there.
- Inspect the scene’s sources for an Audio Input/Output Capture source using the same device.
- Choose one capture path for that device. Either disable its global selection or remove the redundant scene capture; do not capture it in both places.
- Play the music again and confirm that the intended source still shows activity in the mixer.
Source names and available capture types vary by operating system. OBS documents Audio Input/Output Capture for Windows and macOS; Linux uses ALSA/PulseAudio sources. If the menus or sources differ, the exact setup depends on your OS and OBS version.
Use monitoring to diagnose, not to judge the stream by itself
The mixer’s monitor control plays a source through the monitoring device configured in OBS. That is a listening route, not a direct check of what viewers hear in the encoded stream. The OBS Audio Mixer Guide recommends recording and listening before going live.

- Open Advanced Audio Properties from the audio mixer.
- If monitoring is not needed, turn it off for the source while testing.
- If you need monitoring, select the intended monitoring device and check that its output is not being captured back into the stream through another source.
- Record a short test with the same sources and settings you intend to use live.
- Listen to the recording, then compare it with the local monitor. If only the monitor sounds doubled, investigate local monitoring or device playback. If the recording is doubled too, return to the source list and global audio selections.
Use headphones if helpful, and mute local monitoring while checking YouTube playback so it does not confuse the listening test.
Verify the fix on YouTube before leaving the stream running
Check the stream’s playback on YouTube after the test recording. Confirm that the audio is clean before leaving a 24/7 stream unattended. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a Live server URL and stream key in the encoder; stop sending content to end the stream. Its encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived after ending. That statement does not establish that a continuous 24/7 stream will be stored as one replay.

Keep playback settings separate from capture diagnosis. YouTube explains that latency is the delay from capture at the camera or encoder to viewer playback, and lower latency can mean more buffering. DVR lets viewers pause, rewind, and continue. Neither setting is identified as a remedy for duplicate OBS capture. See YouTube’s live settings guide.
Troubleshoot by symptom
| What you hear | What to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| OBS recording and stream playback are doubled | The same output may be selected in Settings > Audio and captured again in the scene. | Leave one capture path for the device, then record and replay another short test. |
| OBS recording is clean, but monitored headphones sound doubled | Local monitoring or device playback may be involved; the monitoring output may also be captured by another source. | Turn monitoring off temporarily. If monitoring is required, check its selected device and whether that output is captured again. |
| The mixer shows more than one source reacting to the same music | Global and scene-level capture may overlap. | Identify which source is intended and disable the redundant path. |
| The source names or steps do not match your setup | Capture options depend on operating system and setup. | Check your OS, OBS version, active audio sources, global audio settings, and where the echo is heard before changing platform-specific routing. |
