First identify what is dropping: OBS network-dropped frames point to an unstable connection to the streaming server or a bitrate your connection cannot sustain; rendering or encoding overload is a different problem, and viewers can buffer even when OBS reports no drops. Check OBS’s dropped-frame counter and stream log before changing settings. Then follow the matching fix below. These are diagnostic steps, not a guaranteed preset: the right settings depend on your connection, computer, streaming platform and ingest server.
Confirm which kind of problem you have
During a representative stream attempt, check OBS’s dropped-frame counter and inspect the log afterward. OBS’s official connection guide defines the network symptom this way: “Dropped frames means that your connection to remote server isn’t stable or you can’t keep up with your set bitrate.” The guide also says it is “extremely unlikely for OBS Studio to cause dropped frames” in this network-specific sense; OBS has a separate performance issue when the computer cannot render or encode the stream fast enough. Read OBS’s Stream Connection Troubleshooting guide and its performance troubleshooting guide.
- OBS network drops: the dropped-frame counter rises. Start with bitrate, ingest server and the network path.
- Rendering or encoding strain: OBS struggles to render or encode frames. Reduce the scene and output workload rather than treating it as a network fault.
- Viewer buffering: OBS may show no drops, while some viewers still have playback trouble. Their devices and internet connections differ.
The OBS guides cited here do not identify a kirtan-specific cause. Diagnose the stream as you would any other broadcast, while checking that the audio and video remain suitable for your program.
Fix rising network-dropped frames
1. Try another ingest server
Open Settings → Stream in OBS and select a different ingest server if your streaming service offers alternatives. Compare the options during a test stream. A better result on another server can help isolate a connection to a particular ingest location; it does not establish that the rest of the network is reliable for continuous broadcasting.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Lower the video bitrate to fit stable upload
In Settings → Output, lower the video bitrate and test again. OBS advises setting bitrate according to both stable upload speed and the streaming service’s limits. Its connection guide calls 75% of total upload speed “a good starting point”—a rule of thumb, not a promise that the connection will sustain that rate. Use observed, stable upload capacity rather than relying only on the speed advertised in an internet plan. Check the platform’s current requirements; the title does not specify a service, so there is no universal bitrate or keyframe setting to prescribe.
Lowering bitrate can help a connection keep up, but it reduces the data available for picture quality. If your platform offers a dynamic bitrate option, OBS’s “Dynamically change bitrate to manage congestion (Beta)” setting can reduce bitrate when the connection falls behind. OBS cautions that it does not fix the underlying connection and can reduce video quality.

3. Check the whole network path
- Wi-Fi: test with a wired Ethernet connection where practical. OBS recommends wired networking for streaming because Wi-Fi may be unstable. A cable cannot fix congestion or faults elsewhere between the computer and ingest server.
- VPN and security software: check whether either is interfering with OBS’s connection. If you temporarily change a security setting for diagnosis, restore protection afterward.
- Network-prioritization tools: check bundled optimization utilities that may deprioritize OBS traffic.
- Drivers and equipment: check network drivers, the adapter, cables, switches or extenders, and modem/router connectivity.
- Other devices: check whether competing traffic on the connection coincides with the drops.
If the documented checks do not resolve the problem, OBS recommends contacting your internet service provider. A comparison test on another streaming service may help determine whether the issue is specific to a service or ingest path; it does not repair the original connection.
4. Treat Windows network options as tests, not fixes
OBS lists Network Optimizations and TCP pacing as options some Windows users report helping. Try them one at a time and compare logs rather than assuming they will help every setup. Leave Bind to IP at Default initially. If needed, test IPv4 Only; if it makes no difference, return to the IPv4/IPv6 default.

Reduce rendering or encoding strain
If the evidence points to OBS workload rather than network drops, reduce what the computer must render and encode. OBS’s performance guide suggests these targeted changes:
- Reduce output resolution.
- Lower frame rate—for example, try 30 fps if 60 fps is not working.
- Simplify scenes and reduce filters or browser sources.
- Close or limit other programs that heavily use the GPU.
- On Windows, try running OBS as administrator if GPU overload is the issue.
Change one setting at a time and test. These steps address rendering or encoding performance; they are not substitutes for network troubleshooting when the OBS dropped-frame counter identifies a connection problem.

Distinguish OBS drops from viewer buffering
If OBS reports no dropped frames but viewers say the stream buffers, investigate playback separately. OBS notes that viewers’ devices and internet connections vary, so buffering can occur without creator-side drops. Check the platform’s recommendations and consider whether lowering bitrate, resolution or quality would make playback accessible to more viewers. Do not treat viewer reports alone as proof that OBS is dropping frames.
If your platform offers transcoding, check its current guidance for stream settings. OBS’s transcoding guide says a consistent keyframe interval within the platform’s recommendation helps quality options transition smoothly, and says YouTube transcodes all streams. Do not apply a keyframe interval or bitrate from one service as a universal value for another. See OBS’s guide to streaming transcoding.

Plan for a continuous broadcast
A stable test is useful, but it is not evidence of guaranteed 24/7 uptime. Test the complete broadcast setup before relying on it, monitor the stream during operation, and keep a restart and recovery procedure ready for interruptions involving OBS, the computer, network, power or streaming platform. OBS’s overview guide describes configuring Automatic Reconnect; treat reconnect as a recovery measure, not an uptime guarantee. Consult the OBS Studio overview for setup guidance.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a YouTube kirtan stream built from uploaded recordings, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative to keeping OBS and a computer running at home: upload a recording or playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos; it does not broadcast a camera. Nothing has to stay on at home, it streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card; the monthly option is $9.99 per month. For Indian creators, UPI works. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
