First find out whether OBS is reporting encoding lag, rendering lag, or dropped frames: they point to different problems and need different fixes. For encoding overload, reduce OBS’s workload before buying hardware—test a simpler scene, disable demanding sources and filters, lower output resolution or frame rate, and check which encoder your system actually supports. The title does not identify your PC, OBS version, settings, or streaming platform, so no single preset can be diagnosed from it. The steps below help isolate the cause while protecting the reliability demands of a long coaching broadcast.
Identify which problem OBS is reporting
Open OBS’s Stats while reproducing the problem, and save the log for that session. Check whether the warning is about encoding lag, rendering lag, or dropped frames before changing settings. OBS explains that encoding overload is a system-performance issue, while dropped frames point to an unstable or insufficient connection to the ingest server. They are not interchangeable symptoms.
Before troubleshooting, note your operating system and OBS version; CPU and GPU; whether you are streaming, recording, or doing both; the stream and recording encoders; output and base-canvas resolutions; frame rate; and the scene’s sources and filters. Also note whether the issue starts immediately or only after the stream has run for a while. Without these details, the precise cause remains unresolved.

Reduce OBS’s rendering and encoding load
Test a simple scene first
- In OBS, switch to a plain test scene with only the essential video and audio sources.
- Temporarily disable animated overlays, browser sources, demanding filters, high-resolution media or camera sources, and anything not needed for the coaching session.
- Check Stats again while reproducing the issue. If performance improves, restore sources one at a time to find which one adds the most load.
Some sources can consume resources even when hidden, and browser sources can be demanding. A simpler scene is a diagnostic test, not necessarily the final design: add back only the elements the session needs and watch whether the warning returns.
Lower output resolution or frame rate if needed
Fewer pixels or frames reduce the work OBS must do. If a simpler scene is not enough, lower the output resolution or frame rate and compare Stats and recording quality. OBS specifically suggests trying 30 fps when 60 fps is not working. Change one setting, or a small group of related settings, at a time so you can tell what helped.
Changing the base canvas is more disruptive because sources may need repositioning. OBS presents lowering it as an option for systems starved for GPU resources, not the first adjustment to make. On Windows, OBS also recommends trying to run the program as administrator. Close other GPU-intensive applications while testing.

These steps follow the OBS encoding performance troubleshooting guidance. Keep the original settings noted so you can restore them if a change worsens the picture or layout.

Look at the encoders available in your OBS settings and identify which one is used for the stream and which for local recording. OBS documents NVENC, AMD AMF, Intel QSV, and Apple VideoToolbox, with compatibility and hardware-generation caveats. Do not assume that a particular option is available or best without checking the computer and operating system.
OBS generally recommends hardware encoding for performance because a dedicated encoding component can take compression work away from the CPU. But hardware encoding is not an automatic cure for rendering overload: OBS still uses GPU resources to composite and render scenes, and heavy sources can compete for those resources. Older encoder generations may also deliver lower image quality at the same bitrate. Check the relevant driver and platform support before switching encoders or considering an upgrade. OBS’s minimum system requirements establish compatibility, not guaranteed performance at a particular resolution, frame rate, encoder, and scene complexity. As OBS states in its System Requirements guidance, “Having a compatible system does not guarantee that it is capable of streaming or recording using OBS Studio.” Its Auto Configuration Wizard can help establish a baseline, but it does not guarantee an uninterrupted 24/7 workflow.
If OBS reports dropped frames instead
When the problem is dropped frames rather than encoding or rendering lag, investigate the connection to the platform’s ingest server. OBS says dropped frames are very unlikely to be caused by OBS itself. Check stable upload capacity and consider the network path, including Wi-Fi, VPN or security software, routing, and network hardware. OBS recommends wired networking where Wi-Fi may be unstable.
If you are streaming to YouTube Live, Google recommends testing with audio and movement representative of the real broadcast, then monitoring stream health and messages. Its current YouTube live encoder settings guidance lists these H.264 video bitrate recommendations:

These are encoder bitrate recommendations, not guaranteed minimum upload speeds or reliability promises. Use YouTube’s current settings table for the actual resolution and codec. The same guidance lists RTMP/RTMPS, H.264/H.265/AV1, CBR, and a recommended two-second keyframe interval not exceeding four seconds. OBS offers a general starting point of using 75% of total upload capacity for bitrate; measure a stable connection and leave headroom rather than treating that rule as a guarantee.
India is not itself a diagnosis. The cited OBS and YouTube guidance does not establish a country-wide Indian internet or power problem, nor a special Indian cause of OBS encoding overload. To investigate a location-specific issue, you need your ISP, connection type, upload measurements, and the relevant power conditions.

A short stable test does not prove that a particular PC, connection, storage volume, or power supply will run indefinitely. Run an extended test with representative scenes and audio, monitor OBS, confirm that the recording file is playable, and check available storage. If the session is interrupted, inspect the OBS log and Stats rather than guessing from the symptom alone.

A UPS, backup connection, or more storage may help when your own testing shows a power, network, or capacity problem. None is a direct documented fix for encoding overload by itself. The official OBS and YouTube guidance cited here does not establish an India-specific recipe or a probability that a particular setup will stay live 24/7.
