Start the encoder again if needed. A broadband recovery does not guarantee OBS will reconnect automatically or that the same YouTube event will still be live.
Restore the connection in the right order
OBS sends your stream directly to YouTube; there is no OBS intermediary server between the encoder and the platform. Treat recovery as three separate checks: internet connectivity, OBS output, and YouTube’s event state. OBS’s connection guide, dated September 30, 2024, describes intermittent disconnections as a network-path problem in many cases. It does not promise automatic recovery after every outage. - Confirm broadband is usable. Reconnect to your router, then test whether a website or another online service loads. A Wi-Fi connection indicator alone does not prove that the route to YouTube is working. If practical, test another connection; mobile-data charges may apply.
- Check OBS. Look at the connection status and dropped-frame count. If OBS is not streaming, start the encoder again. If it says it is reconnecting or streaming but dropped frames continue to rise, move to the network and bitrate checks below.
- Check YouTube Live Control Room. Open the event you intended to use. Look for an encoder preview, stream-health status, and any specific error message. A feed visible in OBS does not by itself confirm that the YouTube event is live and viewable.
- Confirm the event state before making another event. For a scheduled stream, YouTube’s encoder workflow may require waiting for a preview and selecting Go live. The required action depends on how the event was configured. Avoid creating a replacement event until you have checked the existing one.

If OBS is offline or YouTube shows no incoming feed
Start the encoder feed
If OBS is not sending, start streaming from OBS after connectivity has returned. Then watch Live Control Room for the incoming preview and stream-health status. YouTube may require you to click Go live for a scheduled event after the preview appears; follow the event’s current state rather than assuming that starting OBS publishes it automatically.

Check the stream key only for a credential or configuration error
A stream key identifies the feed, and the key and server settings in OBS must match the settings shown for the YouTube event. If Live Control Room or OBS reports an invalid key or configuration error, compare the OBS stream URL and key with the event’s encoder settings. YouTube documents resetting a key in Live Control Room; if you reset it, update OBS with the new key. Do not reset a key just because broadband went down.

If OBS reconnects but keeps dropping frames
OBS says dropped frames mean the connection to the remote server is unstable or cannot keep up with the configured bitrate; enough dropped frames can disconnect the stream. The OBS Project says, “It is extremely unlikely for OBS Studio to cause dropped frames.” Start by testing the connection and bitrate, rather than reinstalling OBS.
- Compare bitrate with stable upload capacity. OBS suggests starting video bitrate at 75% of total upload speed. YouTube recommends leaving 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the total stream bitrate. These are attributed rules of thumb, not guarantees: use upload performance that remains stable over time, not only a single best-case speed-test result. If the connection cannot sustain the current settings, lower the video bitrate and test again.
- Prefer Ethernet for diagnosis. A wired connection removes Wi-Fi as a variable. If you need a cable and your current one is damaged or unsuitable, a Cat 6 Ethernet cable is one possible replacement; it cannot fix an outage or routing fault at your ISP.
- Restart the modem and router. After restarting, wait for the broadband connection to return and test it before restarting the stream. Consult your ISP before replacing network equipment if you are unsure the hardware is at fault.
- Check software and local network factors. Temporarily investigate VPNs, security software, network-optimization tools, network drivers, and damaged cables as possible sources of interference. Change one factor at a time so you can identify whether it affects the connection.

Windows-only OBS network settings
OBS documents network optimizations and TCP pacing settings for Windows. Keep Bind to IP at Default unless you have a specific reason to change it. OBS says you can test IPv4 Only, but if it makes no difference, restore the default IPv4/IPv6 setting. Dynamic bitrate may reduce quality to keep a stream running; it is a fallback, not a repair for the underlying connection problem.
If the problem keeps returning on broadband
If other services also fail, or the stream repeatedly disconnects despite a lower bitrate and a wired test, the fault may be outside your computer. OBS notes that route congestion and ISP-side changes can be beyond a creator’s control. Contact your provider with the outage time, symptoms, OBS log, and whether other services failed too. The available official guidance does not establish a special reconnect setting for Indian broadband or a country-wide outage frequency.
