First find out which playlist is repeating. If FFmpeg reads a local concat file, inspect the exact file named in its command and remove any duplicate file entry. If the duplicate appears in a playlist hosted on YouTube, remove that video from the YouTube playlist instead. A timing or media-compatibility problem can make a transition look wrong, but it is different from an episode being listed twice.
Find out where the repeat happens
There are separate lists and settings involved in this setup. Changing one does not automatically change the others.
- Local FFmpeg playlist: FFmpeg’s concat demuxer reads the paths in its text script in order. Start here if episodes repeat consecutively or in the same order as the script.
- YouTube playlist: If the duplicate appears while navigating a playlist hosted on YouTube, inspect and edit that playlist in YouTube.
- Stream restarts or repeats after a full pass: Inspect the complete FFmpeg command and any separate process that restarts or loops it. A repeated pass is not necessarily a duplicate entry in the concat file.
Check the exact FFmpeg concat file
Find the path supplied to FFmpeg’s input option and open that exact text file. Make sure you are not checking a different, similarly named list. A basic concat file can look like this:

filedirective with the intended episode order. - Remove any repeated directive that is not intentional.
- Check spelling and path resolution, especially when files have similar names.
- Save the file and run the same FFmpeg command again to see whether the repeat remains.
The concat demuxer plays listed files sequentially, so an episode listed twice will be processed twice. For automatic concat-format recognition, ffconcat version 1.0 must be the exact first line. If you explicitly select the concat format, the header is optional. Paths containing spaces or special characters need correct quoting or escaping. FFmpeg’s concat demuxer documentation describes the file format and these requirements.

Distinguish duplicate entries from timing or compatibility artifacts
A repeated directive is a list problem. A glitch, discontinuity, or odd transition is not by itself proof that an episode was added twice. The concat demuxer requires all input files to have the same streams, codecs, and time base. It uses file duration information when adjusting timestamps for the next file; inaccurate durations can therefore cause timing artifacts. A duration directive can override a stored duration.
If the inputs do not meet the demuxer’s compatibility requirements, prepare compatible files or use a method that re-encodes them. FFmpeg’s FAQ recommends the concat filter when re-encoding is needed and distinguishes it from the concat demuxer, which can avoid re-encoding when the files suit that method.

Remove a duplicate from a YouTube-hosted playlist
If the unwanted repeat is an entry in a YouTube playlist, remove that video from the playlist and check the order afterward. YouTube’s playlist editing guidance covers removing entries and reordering them. This changes the YouTube playlist; it does not edit the local concat file FFmpeg reads.
Keep the stream connection separate from the episode list
If FFmpeg sends the feed to YouTube Live, connection settings determine where the encoder sends the stream, not which local files the concat script contains. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses the stream URL and key shown in Live Control Room; check those settings if the stream connection is the problem, but do not treat the stream key as a playlist control.
