Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems“Roblox Client Is Not Responding” usually means that the Roblox process has hung or crashed—not that there is one universal Roblox error with one guaranteed fix. On Windows 10 and Windows 11, the quickest reliable sequence is to end the frozen Roblox process, check Roblox’s service status, test the current Microsoft Store app called Roblox – Windows, and then perform a clean reinstall if necessary.
Before changing drivers, deleting files, or uninstalling updates, identify when the freeze occurs. Roblox freezing immediately at launch points to a client, installation, security, or compatibility problem. A freeze in only one experience may be an issue with that experience instead. The steps below separate those possibilities and move from low-risk fixes to advanced diagnostics.
First, identify what is actually freezing
The wording is easy to misread. A completely frozen Roblox window, a game that cannot connect, a browser that fails to hand the Play command to Roblox, and an entire computer lockup are different problems.
| Symptom | Most likely area | Start here | Escalate when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Roblox freezes immediately after launch | Installation, the Store app, antivirus, anti-cheat, Windows compatibility, or a recent update | End the process, restart Windows, and test Roblox – Windows | Both official clients fail after a clean reinstall and clean boot |
| Roblox freezes while joining any experience | Client files, firewall, network, or graphics initialization | Test another network and check security software | Other games and Windows applications also freeze |
| It freezes after several minutes in every experience | Client regression, graphics driver, overlay, resource issue, or third-party software | Close overlays and recording tools; compare the two official clients | The same timing remains after a clean boot |
| Only one experience freezes | That experience’s scripts, assets, server, or creator-side issue | Try several other experiences | Report the problem to the experience creator if other games work |
| It freezes only during recording or streaming | OBS capture mode, GPU capture, or an overlay | Close capture tools, then test OBS Window Capture or Display Capture | Roblox also freezes with all capture software closed |
| Only the browser Play button fails | Browser extensions, cookies, or the browser-to-client handoff | Try another browser or launch the Store app directly | The standalone clients also freeze |
| The entire PC locks up | GPU driver, overheating, memory, hardware instability, or Windows corruption | Check temperatures, drivers, and Windows reliability information | Do not treat this as only a Roblox installation problem |
| A numbered error such as 277, 279, 268, or 403 appears | A specific connection, authentication, access, or anti-cheat condition | Use Roblox’s numbered error-code guidance | Follow the code-specific workflow rather than this generic one |
Roblox’s official error-code list does not use this exact “Client Is Not Responding” wording. Roblox instead groups related desktop failures under crashes, corrupted files, firewall interference, and installation problems in its general desktop troubleshooting guidance.

Quick fixes: follow this order
- Check the official Roblox Status page.
- End Roblox in Task Manager.
- Restart Windows.
- Close overlays, recording software, VPNs, auto-clickers, and unofficial Roblox tools.
- Test the current Roblox – Windows app from Microsoft Store.
- Repair or reset that Store app if needed.
- Perform a clean Roblox reinstall.
This order avoids unnecessary data loss and helps distinguish a temporary hung process from a broken installation or a current client regression.
1. Check whether Roblox is having a service outage
Open the Roblox Status page and inspect Player, Games, Game Join, and Website. If Roblox reports a disruption, repeatedly reinstalling the client will not repair Roblox’s servers. Wait for the service to recover and check the page again.
At the time this guide’s research was checked, on August 10, 2026, the page reported “All Systems Operational.” That is only a snapshot: an operational status page cannot rule out a regional problem, a faulty client build, a Windows-specific regression, or an issue affecting one device.
2. End the frozen Roblox process
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Under Apps or Background processes, select Roblox, Roblox Game Client, or the Roblox process that is using the CPU or memory.
- Select End task.
- If the browser that launched Roblox is also unresponsive, select it and choose End task too.
- Restart Windows, then launch Roblox again without opening overlays or recording software.
Ending a process is the normal way to terminate an unresponsive application. Microsoft documents Task Manager’s process-management tools in its Windows support-tools guidance.
Recommended Free Tools
Do not repeatedly click a frozen window, terminate random Windows processes, or hold the computer’s power button unless Windows itself is completely unresponsive. A forced power-off can cause data loss.
Use the current Roblox Windows app
There are currently two Windows app identities that can cause confusion. Roblox says the newer Microsoft Store app is named Roblox – Windows and has a blue icon. The older Store listing is named simply Roblox and has a light-gray icon. Roblox describes the new app as more stable and says the old version will eventually stop working. See Roblox’s official explanation of the new Store app.
Install or test Roblox – Windows
- Open Microsoft Store.
- Search for Roblox – Windows.
- Confirm the official app and blue icon before installing.
- Install it and sign in with your normal Roblox account.
- Test several different experiences, not only the one that first froze.
- Once it works, uninstall the old gray-icon Roblox entry so that you do not accidentally keep launching it.
Your Roblox account stores your friends, Robux, inventory, progress, and experience data. Roblox says those account details transfer when you move from the old app to the new one; changing the local app does not delete the account.
Update and repair the Store app
First open Microsoft Store > Library > Get updates. Also install pending Windows updates. If Microsoft Store itself is not behaving correctly, press Win + R, enter wsreset.exe, and press Enter. A command window may appear briefly while the Store cache is cleared. Microsoft includes these steps in its Microsoft Store app troubleshooting guidance.
To repair Roblox – Windows:
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Roblox – Windows.
- Select its three-dot menu and choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair.
- Test Roblox.
- If it still freezes, return to the same screen and select Reset.
Repair tries to fix the app without fully resetting it. Reset is more aggressive and may clear local app data, so you may need to sign in again. Not every Windows app exposes both controls. These options apply to the Store-packaged app; they are not a repair method for the classic browser-installed Roblox Player.
Perform a clean Roblox reinstall
Reinstalling over an existing installation replaces program files, but a clean reinstall also removes persistent local Roblox files that may be corrupted. Roblox recommends restarting before reinstalling, closing other programs during installation, restarting after uninstalling, clearing browser temporary files, and checking security software.

Clean reinstall for the desktop Roblox Player
- End every Roblox process in Task Manager.
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Roblox and select Uninstall. If it is not listed there, use Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
- Restart Windows.
- Press Win + R, enter
%localappdata%, and press Enter. - Delete the Roblox folder.
- Clear Roblox-related temporary files and cookies from the browser that launches Roblox.
- Restart Windows again.
- Reinstall from the official Roblox website or install the official Roblox – Windows Store app.
- Keep other programs closed while the installation is running, then test several experiences.
The local folder normally corresponds to C:Users<Your Windows Username>AppDataLocalRoblox. Roblox’s uninstall instructions say that deleting it removes persistent Roblox files and should not remove Studio places unless you manually saved those places in that folder. The client will download fresh files the next time it starts.
If the browser’s Play button is the only failure, clear Roblox site data and cookies from that browser, disable extensions temporarily, and try another browser. You can also launch Roblox – Windows directly from the Start menu. This separates a browser handoff problem from a client problem.

Avoid Roblox cleaners, registry scripts, downloaded DLL files, modified clients, injectors, unofficial launchers, and random command files. Roblox’s anti-cheat guidance warns that modified versions are not allowed and recommends removing unofficial versions before reinstalling from the official website or an official app store.
Test for software conflicts
Third-party software can freeze or terminate Roblox even when the Roblox files themselves are healthy. Close the following before testing:
- Discord overlay;
- Xbox Game Bar;
- NVIDIA or AMD overlays;
- OBS and other recording software;
- FPS counters and hardware-monitoring tools;
- webcam and virtual-camera utilities;
- VPNs and traffic-filtering applications;
- auto-clickers;
- other game launchers;
- third-party “optimizer” tools; and
- unofficial Roblox clients or injectors.
Roblox specifically says that OBS in-game capture is incompatible with the client. If OBS is the cause, use Window Capture or Display Capture instead of Game Capture.
Check antivirus and firewall interference safely
- Temporarily pause the suspected antivirus or endpoint-security feature only long enough to test Roblox.
- If Roblox works, turn protection back on immediately.
- Update the security software.
- Add the official Roblox installation to its allow list rather than leaving protection disabled.
Roblox recommends allowing the client through security software instead of permanently disabling the firewall. Its firewall and router guidance also warns that blocking UDP traffic can interfere with Roblox. The exact allow-list procedure varies by security product, so do not approve unknown files merely because they are named Roblox.
Use a Windows clean boot to find the conflict
Use a clean boot when Roblox works after a fresh restart, works with overlays closed, or fails only when other background software is running.
- Sign in with an administrator account.
- Search for
msconfigand open System Configuration. - Open the Services tab.
- Check Hide all Microsoft services.
- Select Disable all, then select Apply.
- Open the Startup tab and select Open Task Manager.
- Disable the enabled startup items.
- Close Task Manager and System Configuration.
- Restart Windows and test Roblox.
If Roblox works, re-enable services and startup items in groups, restarting and testing after each group, until the conflicting program is identified. This follows Microsoft’s clean-boot procedure.
Do not leave the computer permanently in a diagnostic startup state. To restore normal startup, open msconfig, choose Normal startup on the General tab, then open Services, clear Hide all Microsoft services, select Enable all, re-enable the startup items you disabled, and restart.
Check graphics drivers and hardware
Investigate graphics when the freeze happens as an experience loads, the screen turns white or corrupted, textures become distorted, Roblox reports a graphics initialization problem, or the issue began immediately after a GPU-driver update.

If you suspect a missing, outdated, or incompatible display driver, Outbyte Driver Updater is an optional way to check driver status before you install or roll back the driver manually.
Check DirectX support
- Press Win + R.
- Enter
dxdiagand press Enter. - Open the Display tabs.
- Check the listed Feature Levels and display adapters.
Roblox lists 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11, DirectX 10 or higher feature-level support, at least 1 GB of RAM, and approximately 300 MB of storage in its published computer requirements. These are baseline requirements, not a promise that every modern, graphics-heavy experience will run smoothly.
Update or roll back the display driver
- Install the current driver from NVIDIA, AMD, Intel, or your computer manufacturer.
- Restart Windows and test Roblox.
- If the problem started immediately after a driver update, open Device Manager and consider using the driver’s Roll Back Driver option.
On a laptop with integrated and dedicated graphics, test the Roblox app with each GPU preference through Settings > System > Display > Graphics or the laptop manufacturer’s graphics-control software.
Right-click the Roblox shortcut or executable, open Properties > Compatibility, and make sure Run this program in compatibility mode is not selected when investigating a graphics compatibility failure. Compatibility mode is not a default Roblox fix, and Roblox’s graphics guidance specifically advises turning it off in the relevant scenario.
Lower graphics only if Roblox can stay open
If Roblox launches and remains responsive long enough to open an experience:
- Press Esc.
- Open Settings.
- Under Graphics, turn off Graphics Quality – Auto.
- Lower the graphics level.
- Test again.
Lowering graphics reduces the workload on the device but also lowers image quality. It cannot repair a broken launcher, corrupted installation, browser handoff, or Roblox-side regression. Roblox distinguishes graphics lag from network lag and system lag in its lag-reduction guidance.
Separate a network problem from a frozen client
Network trouble is more likely when Roblox’s menus remain responsive but an experience never finishes loading, players stop moving, or you see error 277, 279, or an ID 17 message. A process that turns white and cannot be clicked is not automatically an internet problem.
- Restart the router and PC.
- Try a wired connection if available.
- Test another Wi-Fi network or a phone hotspot.
- Temporarily disable a VPN or traffic filter.
- Allow Roblox through the Windows firewall and security software.
- If the issue occurs only on a school, work, or managed network, ask its administrator whether Roblox or UDP traffic is blocked.
Roblox lists firewalls, inconsistent wireless connections, low bandwidth, large experiences, browser security settings, and blocked ports as possible connection causes. Its connection guidance lists UDP ports 49152–65535, while its separate firewall guidance explains that Roblox selects ports dynamically and may fail when UDP traffic is blocked generally.
Do not make broad port-forwarding instructions the default solution. Forwarding ports can weaken router security and will not fix a hung local process, broken client build, or graphics driver.
If Roblox stopped working after an update
Use the timeline rather than assuming that the newest update is responsible:
- Did Roblox work before a Roblox update?
- Did Windows, a graphics driver, antivirus, OBS, or a webcam utility change immediately beforehand?
- Does Roblox – Windows behave differently from the browser-launched client?
- Does the problem happen on every experience?
- Is the computer a standard Intel/AMD x64 PC or a Windows-on-Arm device?

In contrast, community reports—particularly from Windows-on-Arm and Snapdragon users—claim that Roblox stopped launching or began crashing after KB5101684. Those reports are anecdotal and do not prove that the update caused Roblox problems. Treat the issue as an investigation, not as a confirmed universal bug. Compare Microsoft’s KB5101684 information with the timing on your own machine.
If the timing strongly matches:
- Open Start > Settings > Windows Update.
- Select Update history.
- Choose Uninstall updates.
- Locate the suspected optional update.
- Uninstall it only after considering the security and stability implications.
- Restart and retest both official Roblox clients.
Microsoft documents this update-removal process and warns users to understand the risks before removing an update, especially a security update. Do not uninstall updates merely because Roblox is frozen once; establish a strong timing relationship first.
Windows on Arm and Snapdragon computers
Roblox’s public requirements mention 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11 but do not clearly describe equivalent support for every Windows-on-Arm device. Public reports have documented launch and compatibility problems on Snapdragon or Arm64 Windows systems, including issues after Roblox or Windows updates. These reports are not proof that every Arm device is unsupported.
If you use a Snapdragon or Surface device:
- Record whether Windows is x64 or Arm64 and note the exact OS build.
- Test both the website client and Roblox – Windows, if both are available.
- Install current Windows and Microsoft Store updates unless a particular update clearly coincides with the failure.
- Do not assume that an x64 fix solves an Arm64 emulation or anti-cheat problem.
- If both official clients fail after an update, report the architecture and exact build to Roblox Support.
Do not use Android emulators, modified clients, or unofficial compatibility packages as a normal workaround. Roblox’s documented anti-cheat rules make official installations the safer path.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.When a Roblox client regression is more likely
A current Roblox bug becomes more plausible when the freeze:
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- started immediately after a Roblox client update;
- affects every experience;
- continues after deleting the local Roblox folder and reinstalling;
- continues with overlays and background software disabled;
- occurs on a supported, updated computer; and
- affects one recent client type or is being reported by multiple users.
Recent Roblox Developer Forum reports from May through July 2026 describe some users experiencing freezes or silent client closures after several minutes. Some users reported that the Microsoft Store version worked while the website client did not; other reports said both versions were affected. These are user reports and bug discussions, not a Roblox-confirmed root cause or guaranteed workaround. See the reports on client closing suddenly, crashes after several minutes, and silent crashes.
At that point, use the alternate official client temporarily if it works, monitor Roblox Status and official support channels, and report the reproducible pattern. Repeating the same reinstall will not fix a broken client build.
Run DISM and SFC only when Windows itself may be damaged
DISM and System File Checker are not Roblox cache cleaners. Reserve them for cases where other Windows applications also freeze, Windows updates have failed, system libraries appear damaged, or both official Roblox clients fail alongside broader Windows problems.
For those broader Windows stability cases, Outbyte PC Repair is an optional tool to help check and address system issues; it is not required for a Roblox-only client freeze.

When to contact Roblox Support
Contact Roblox when both official Windows clients fail after the clean reinstall, software-conflict, graphics, and network checks—or when the evidence points to a recent client regression. Use Roblox’s Contact Us page and describe the reproduction pattern rather than only writing “Roblox is broken.”
Include:
- your Roblox username;
- Windows version and OS build;
- CPU architecture: x64 or Arm64;
- GPU model and driver version;
- whether you used the browser-launched Player or Roblox – Windows;
- the exact wording of the message;
- whether every experience fails or only one;
- how long Roblox runs before freezing;
- whether another network changes the result;
- recent Roblox, Windows, graphics-driver, antivirus, overlay, or hardware changes; and
- the steps that reproduce the failure.
Roblox documents these Windows log locations:
%localappdata%Robloxlogs
for the Win32 client, and:
%LOCALAPPDATA%PackagesROBLOXCorporation.ROBLOX_55nm5eh3cm0prLocalStatelogs
for the Store version. Roblox specifically says to send logs only when requested by a Roblox employee. Do not upload logs publicly because they may contain useful diagnostic and account-related information.
Frequently Asked Questions
Should I wait when Roblox says it is not responding?
If the window is completely white, unclickable, and remains hung, end the Roblox process in Task Manager and restart Windows rather than repeatedly clicking it. If the menus still respond and only an experience is loading, classify it as a possible network or experience-specific problem first.
Will reinstalling Roblox delete my account, Robux, or progress?
No. Roblox says your account data, including friends, Robux, inventory, and experience data, is tied to your Roblox account rather than the local app installation. A clean reinstall deletes local client files and settings, so you may need to sign in again.
Is Roblox – Windows better than the browser version?
Roblox promotes Roblox – Windows, identified by its blue icon, as the newer and more stable Microsoft Store app. It is a useful alternate client, but it is not guaranteed to fix every freeze. Testing both clients is valuable because a failure in only one can indicate a client-specific regression or installation problem.

No. Temporarily pausing security software can be a short diagnostic test, but protection should be turned back on immediately. If Roblox works while it is paused, update the security software and add the official Roblox installation to its allow list.
Where are Roblox logs located?
Win32 Player logs are in %localappdata%Robloxlogs. Store-client logs are in %LOCALAPPDATA%PackagesROBLOXCorporation.ROBLOX_55nm5eh3cm0prLocalStatelogs. Roblox says to send logs only when a Roblox employee requests them.
The Bottom Line
Most Windows users should start with four actions: check Roblox Status, end the frozen process and restart, test the blue-icon Roblox – Windows app, and perform a clean reinstall if both clients are still affected. If the freeze survives a clean boot and occurs in every experience, stop repeating cache fixes: investigate the graphics driver, Windows-on-Arm compatibility, a recent update, or a Roblox-side regression, then send Roblox Support a precise reproduction report.
