Roblox Error Code 277 means the game client lost—or could not maintain—a connection to the experience’s server. It does not automatically mean your internet is down: a Roblox outage, unstable Wi-Fi, a firewall or VPN, damaged app files, device settings, or one malfunctioning experience can all be involved. Start with the status page and a quick comparison test before reinstalling anything.
Start with the fastest checks
- Check Roblox service health. Open Roblox Status and check Games, Game Join, Player, and the platform you use. If an incident is listed, wait for recovery rather than repeatedly reinstalling Roblox.
- Restart Roblox and your device. Close Roblox completely, restart the computer, phone, tablet, or Chromebook, then try again. If several devices are dropping off the same network, restart the modem/router too.
- Try another experience. If only one experience fails, try a different server if available. If every experience fails, continue with network and device checks.
- Test a different connection. Try another Wi-Fi network or a phone hotspot; on a computer, try Ethernet if available. This helps separate a device or app problem from a home-network or ISP problem.
The status page is a useful first check, not proof that every route or region is healthy. A local ISP issue, regional routing problem, or newly developing incident may not appear there immediately. Roblox’s Error 277 guidance describes a failed client-to-server connection and lists connectivity, security software, and app-related causes (Roblox Error Code 277; General Connection Problems).
Use the results to narrow down the cause

Speed and stability are different. Roblox’s error-code overview gives a general internet-speed recommendation of 4–8 Mb/s or above, alongside meeting system requirements, but a high download speed does not rule out packet loss, brief dropouts, congestion, or filtering (Roblox Error Codes).

Test Wi-Fi, router, and congestion
- Move closer to the router or switch to Ethernet on a computer if possible.
- Pause large downloads, cloud backups, streams, and other heavy network activity while testing.
- Try another device on the same network, then try the affected device on a different network or hotspot.
- If multiple devices lose connectivity, restart the router. If Roblox works on another connection but not your usual one, contact your ISP or network administrator.
A successful speed test or the ability to browse websites does not prove that a real-time game connection is stable.

Check VPNs, firewalls, and security software
- Disconnect from a VPN temporarily and test Roblox again. A VPN can alter routing or restrictions, but it can also add latency or another point of failure; it is not a guaranteed fix.
- Check Windows Firewall or your security app for a Roblox block. If you have permission, allow the legitimate Roblox application rather than leaving protection turned off.
- If you temporarily disable a security feature as a test, turn it back on immediately afterward. Do not keep antivirus or firewall protection disabled.
- School, work, hotel, and public networks may restrict games. Ask the network administrator to check access rather than trying to bypass controls.
Roblox’s general connection guidance identifies UDP ports 49152–65535. That information is mainly for network administrators investigating a demonstrated router or firewall restriction; it is not a reason for most players to open a broad port range on a home router (Roblox General Connection Problems).
Fix Roblox on Windows
Restart, update, and reinstall
- Close Roblox completely, restart Windows, and test the experience again.
- Install pending Roblox and Windows updates.
- If the problem continues, uninstall Roblox using Windows’ normal app or program controls, restart the computer, and reinstall Roblox from Roblox’s official website. On Windows 11, Roblox’s Error 277 article lists Control Panel → Programs → Programs and Features → Roblox → Uninstall (or Uninstall/Change).
Reinstalling can replace damaged or missing app files, but it cannot repair an outage or an ISP-side interruption. Know your Roblox login details before uninstalling, since you may need to sign in again. Roblox’s reinstall instructions also recommend restarting after uninstalling when a normal reinstall does not resolve the issue (How Do I Reinstall the Roblox Software?).
Advanced cleanup: remove Roblox’s local data
Use this only if a normal reinstall has failed. Roblox’s Error 277 instructions specify it for Windows 7, 8.1, and 10. Uninstall Roblox first. Then open Command Prompt in your Windows user profile and run the commands below:

rmdir /s RobloxWhen prompted to confirm deletion, enter y. The command permanently deletes the Roblox folder under the current profile’s local app-data path. Confirm you are using the intended Windows account and path before running it; do not run it from an unrelated directory. Restart the computer, then reinstall Roblox. Deleting local files will not solve a server-side or ISP-side problem. Follow Roblox’s instructions at Error Code 277.
Fix Roblox on Mac
- Close Roblox and restart the Mac.
- Check whether macOS has granted Roblox the required access under System Settings → Privacy & Security. Menu labels can vary by macOS version.
- If the app launches but disconnects during play, test another network; that points more toward connectivity, routing, or an experience issue than a permission preventing the app from functioning.
- If needed, remove Roblox by moving the app to Trash or using Command-Delete, then reinstall it from the Roblox website.
Roblox’s Error 277 support page gives macOS 10.13 High Sierra and above as the scope for its instructions. That is the version scope stated on the support page, not a guarantee that every older Mac remains compatible; check Roblox’s current requirements before relying on an older system (Roblox Error Code 277).
Fix Roblox on iPhone or iPad
- Force-close Roblox, then reopen it. Force-closing is quicker and less disruptive than deleting the app.
- If the error returns, restart the device.
- Check the device’s date and time and correct them if they are wrong.
- Test another internet connection.
- If needed, delete Roblox, reinstall it from the App Store, and sign in again.
Roblox’s Error 277 instructions list iOS 12 and above as their scope. Device compatibility can change, so check the current app listing and Roblox support information for older devices (Roblox Error Code 277).

Fix Roblox on Android
- Force-close Roblox from recent apps and reopen it.
- Restart the device and check that its date and time are correct.
- Try another Wi-Fi network or a hotspot.
- If the error remains, uninstall Roblox and reinstall it through Google Play.
Android settings and force-close steps differ by manufacturer and operating-system version. Roblox’s Error 277 article lists Android OS 6 and above for its instructions; confirm current compatibility for your particular device before troubleshooting an older version (Roblox Error Code 277).

- Force-stop Roblox in the tablet’s app settings, then reopen it.
- Restart the tablet and check its date and time.
- Test another connection.
- If needed, uninstall and reinstall Roblox through the Amazon Store.
Roblox’s Error 277 page lists these device ranges for its Fire instructions: Fire 7 (9th generation and above), Fire HD 8 (8th generation and above), Fire HD 10 (9th generation and above), and Fire Max 11 (13th generation and above). Device support can change; use Roblox’s current article to verify your model (Roblox Error Code 277).
Fix Roblox on a Chromebook
- Install pending ChromeOS updates.
- Open ChromeOS Task Manager, end the Roblox process, and reopen Roblox.
- Restart the Chromebook and check its date and time.
- If Roblox is installed through Google Play on your device, remove and reinstall it from the Play Store.
- Test another internet connection.
Roblox’s Error 277 article lists ChromeOS version 53 and above as its scope. Not every Chromebook supports the same Roblox installation method, so Google Play availability and device configuration matter (Roblox Error Code 277).

When one experience is the only one that fails
Join a different, well-known experience, then return to the affected one and try a different server if it offers a server list. Note whether the disconnect happens immediately or only after you have played for a while. Roblox notes that an experience can have faulty scripts or too many objects and may need repair by its creator (General Connection Problems). A single-experience failure is still only a clue: a specific server, route, or account-related condition could also be involved.
If the failure follows that experience across devices or networks, report the reproducible issue to the experience creator or Roblox Support rather than repeatedly changing settings on a device that works elsewhere.
When to contact Roblox or your ISP
Contact your ISP or network administrator if Roblox works on a hotspot or another network but repeatedly fails on the usual connection. Contact Roblox Support if the error persists across different networks, devices, and experiences, or if the evidence points to a Roblox account or service problem.
Include your Roblox username, the exact error message, device model, operating-system version, affected experience, when the disconnect occurs, steps to reproduce it, networks tested, and any recent changes to your device or network. Roblox’s connection support guidance asks users to provide troubleshooting details when contacting support (General Connection Problems).
Use Roblox’s official support and download channels. Avoid unofficial “error fixers,” registry cleaners, launchers, and unknown firewall rules; they can create security risks without addressing the cause. Roblox also says virtual machines and cloud computers are unsupported in its error-code guidance (Roblox Error Codes).
