The fastest way to fix Roblox FPS drops is to test another experience, lower Roblox’s graphics quality manually, close overlays and background apps, then check whether the problem is actually network or server lag. If lowering graphics does not change performance, stop lowering the slider and investigate CPU load, heat, power mode, drivers, frame pacing, or the Roblox client.
First, identify what is actually lagging
“FPS drop” can describe several different problems. Diagnose the symptom before changing settings:

| FPS is unchanged even at minimum graphics | CPU limitation, frame cap, driver, power mode, client, or server issue |
| Brief freezes occur despite a high average FPS | Frame-time spikes or micro-stuttering |
Roblox separates lag into network, graphics, and system categories. Lowering graphics helps primarily with graphics/rendering load; it cannot fix a slow server or unstable connection. See Roblox’s lag troubleshooting guidance.

The five-minute Roblox FPS fix
- Join a relatively lightweight experience and note whether the problem is constant or intermittent.
- Join a second, more demanding experience. If only one game is affected, the problem may be specific to that experience or server.
- Open the Roblox menu with the Roblox logo in the upper-left corner or Esc.
- Choose Settings, set Graphics Mode to Manual, and move Graphics Quality several steps to the left.
- Resume the game and retest. If performance improves, raise the slider one step at a time until you find a good quality/performance balance.
- Close browsers playing video, Discord, recording software, overlays, RGB utilities, launchers, auto-clickers, and other unnecessary applications.
- Fully exit Roblox and restart the computer or mobile device.
Roblox documents the graphics controls in its Graphics Quality support article. Minimum graphics is best used as a diagnostic setting, not automatically as the permanent solution.

If lowering graphics does not help
Do not keep reducing image quality indefinitely. A graphics slider may have little effect when the CPU, experience script workload, frame cap, network, server, or client is the bottleneck.
Check CPU, GPU, RAM, and background usage
On Windows, open Task Manager while Roblox is running and watch CPU, GPU, memory, and disk activity. A heavily loaded CPU can limit Roblox even when the GPU is powerful. Close the process responsible for unusual usage, but do not end unfamiliar system processes without knowing what they do.
Temporarily disable overlays and capture tools from Discord, Xbox Game Bar, NVIDIA, AMD, and other recording software. Also pause cloud-sync or indexing work if it is consuming significant resources. Roblox advises closing unwanted high-power applications and notes that third-party software can interfere with the client.

Do not permanently disable antivirus protection. Update the security software first. If it is blocking Roblox, use a narrowly scoped exception only when necessary and only for files you trust. Roblox lists its local files under C:Users(Your Windows Username)AppDataLocalRoblox and provides additional guidance for antivirus and third-party restrictions here.

Check laptop power and temperature
- Plug in the laptop while testing.
- Avoid Battery Saver and aggressive quiet or eco modes.
- Keep vents clear and use the laptop on a hard surface.
- Compare performance immediately after launch with performance after 15–30 minutes.
- Check CPU and GPU temperatures when the drop occurs.
Some laptops may use integrated graphics instead of a dedicated GPU. Selecting the dedicated GPU can be a useful diagnostic test, but it is not a guaranteed fix: some Roblox experiences are CPU-limited, and a discrete GPU may increase heat without increasing FPS.
Update graphics drivers and check compatibility
Roblox lists outdated graphics drivers as a possible cause of computer graphics problems. Identify whether your system uses NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel graphics, then download drivers from the manufacturer’s official website or, for laptops, the computer manufacturer’s support page. Restart after installing.
If the problem began immediately after a driver update, record the driver version and consider a manufacturer-supported rollback. Avoid random “driver booster” applications.

- Right-click Roblox or Roblox Studio.
- Select Properties, then open Compatibility.
- Clear Run this program in compatibility mode if it is enabled.
If you can open Roblox Studio, check which GPU Roblox sees: open Studio Settings, choose Diagnostics, and find GfxCard. For launch or compatibility problems—not ordinary FPS drops—run dxdiag in Windows, open the Display or Display 1 tab, and inspect Feature Levels. Use Roblox performance statistics
Use the built-in statistics to distinguish sustained low FPS from network trouble or intermittent stalls:
- Shift + F5: show the client’s debug statistics summary.
- Ctrl + Alt + F7 on Windows: show Performance Stats.
- Ctrl + Alt + F6 on Windows: open the MicroProfiler.
Watch FPS or frame rate, ping/network measurements, memory usage, and CPU/GPU indicators where available. Roblox’s documentation describes a default client target of 60 FPS, approximately 16.67 milliseconds per frame. Windows users can raise the client cap to 240 FPS, but a higher cap does not create performance that the hardware or experience cannot sustain.

Average FPS can also hide frame-time spikes. For example, many fast frames interrupted by one very long frame can produce a noticeable hitch. Use the MicroProfiler documentation if you need to investigate repeated stalls; ordinary players do not need to interpret every profiler category.

When the problem is the experience or server
If Roblox is smooth in several games but slow in one experience, lowering local graphics may not solve it. Try another server, a less demanding area, or a private server where appropriate. Large servers, heavy effects, scripts, or server-side problems can affect performance even on a capable PC.
If everyone in a server experiences delayed actions or movement, report the issue to the experience creator. If only your client is affected across multiple experiences, continue with the device and client checks above.

High ping or unstable Wi-Fi can cause players to warp, attacks to register late, and interactions to respond slowly while the picture itself remains smooth. Test another network or a wired connection if possible, stop other devices from saturating the connection, and restart the router only when the symptoms indicate a connection problem.

It affects network responsiveness; your device’s CPU and GPU determine how many frames it can render. Avoid broad firewall or router changes for a graphics problem. Roblox currently lists UDP ports 49152–65535 in its connection guidance, but opening a wide range has security and networking implications and should not be a routine FPS fix.

Mobile fixes for Roblox stuttering
- Close other applications and restart the device.
- Lower Roblox graphics quality manually.
- Disable battery-saving modes while testing.
- Keep the device cool and avoid playing while charging if charging makes it hot.
- Update Roblox and the operating system.
- Free storage if the device is nearly full.
- Test Wi-Fi when the symptom is delayed actions or players warping rather than a choppy image.
Roblox currently requires iOS/iPadOS 14 or later, Android 8.0 or later, and Android support for at least OpenGL ES 3.0. Roblox also warns that some Android devices may perform poorly even when they meet the operating-system requirement. Software tweaks cannot reliably compensate for hardware that is below the practical demands of an experience. Check the current mobile system requirements.
Console troubleshooting
Console players have fewer graphics-driver and operating-system controls. Restart Roblox and the console, install pending Roblox and console updates, close other games and apps, and check ventilation or overheating. Test another experience to determine whether the problem is game-specific. Restart the router only for network symptoms. For a persistent platform-specific problem, contact Roblox Support or the console manufacturer.
Repair or reinstall Roblox
- Fully exit Roblox.
- Restart the device.
- Install pending Roblox and operating-system updates.
- Retest without overlays or third-party utilities.
- Reinstall Roblox from an official Roblox source.
- If your platform offers more than one official Roblox client distribution, compare them as a troubleshooting step.
Do not treat unofficial FPS unlockers, registry edits, modified client files, or undocumented flags as standard fixes. They are unsupported and may create compatibility, security, account, or anti-cheat risks.
When to report the issue
Contact Roblox Support when the problem persists across multiple experiences after the basic checks, or when it began after a client update and is reproducible. Include your operating system, device or hardware specifications, GPU and driver version, Roblox client/platform, affected experiences, approximate start date and times, graphics settings, screenshots or statistics, and whether lowering graphics changes FPS.
If only one experience is affected, send the same reproducible details to that experience’s creator. This gives them more useful information than simply reporting that the game “lags.”
