The quickest fixes for RoboCop: Rogue City crashing on PC are to update the game, verify its files, disable DLSS/FSR/XeSS and frame generation, turn off overlays, remove overclocks, and reset the local graphics configuration if necessary. This guide covers the original 2023 game, not RoboCop: Rogue City – Unfinished Business, which has a separate PC build, requirements, and support path.

First, identify which RoboCop game you own

The original RoboCop: Rogue City is Steam app 1681430 and launched on November 2, 2023. RoboCop: Rogue City – Unfinished Business is a separate 2025 release with different system requirements. Use the original game’s Steam support page for the game covered here.

Do not substitute Unfinished Business‘ requirements or fixes. For example, the newer title lists a GTX 1060 6 GB minimum GPU, while the original game lists a GTX 1650 4 GB, Radeon RX 480 4 GB, or Intel Arc A380 4 GB minimum.

Match the fix to the crash

Symptom Start here
Crash immediately after clicking Play Update the game, verify files, update the GPU driver, disable overlays, and reset the configuration.
Crash after the Unreal Engine logo Disable upscaling and frame generation, close monitoring tools, and test a borderless window.
Crash during first launch or shader compilation Install current patches, verify files, restart Windows, and allow shader creation to finish without repeatedly force-closing the game.
Crash after a cutscene Temporarily disable DLSS, FSR, XeSS, frame generation, and ray tracing.
Crash after 10–30 minutes Return hardware to stock settings, check temperatures and VRAM usage, and lower the graphics preset.
Black screen followed by desktop Try borderless or windowed mode, disable overlays, and reset display settings.
The whole PC reboots or powers off Investigate thermals, power delivery, RAM, drivers, and hardware stability rather than treating it as an ordinary game crash.
Crash at one mission or cutscene Test another save, record the exact trigger, and check for a title-specific bug before reinstalling Windows.

Check requirements and install the latest patch

The original game’s official minimum requirements are Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core i7-4790 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600, 16 GB of RAM, a GTX 1650 4 GB, Radeon RX 480 4 GB, or Intel Arc A380 4 GB, and 51 GB of available storage. The recommended configuration is an Intel Core i7-10700K or Ryzen 7 3800XT, 16 GB of RAM, and an RTX 3070 8 GB, Radeon RX 6800 16 GB, or Intel Arc A770.

ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 5070 12GB GDDR7 OC EditionGaming Graphics Card
  • Powered by the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture and DLSS 4 OC mode: 2640MHz/Default mode: 2610MHz (Boost Clock)
  • Military-grade components deliver rock-solid power and longer lifespan for ultimate durability
  • Protective PCB coating helps protect against short circuits caused by moisture, dust, or debris
  • 3.125-slot design with massive fin array optimized for airflow from three Axial-tech fans
  • Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads

Meeting the minimum does not guarantee stability. Drivers, VRAM pressure, shader compilation, overlays, unstable tuning, damaged settings, and game bugs can all cause crashes on hardware above the recommended specification.

Steam normally downloads patches automatically. Open Steam, let any pending update finish, restart Steam, and then restart Windows. Later updates have included game-crash fixes, shader-creation changes, Intel XeSS updates, and other optimisations; check the official Steam patch-notes feed before trying old launch-day workarounds.

Try these low-risk fixes first

1. Verify the game files

  1. Open Steam and select Library.
  2. Right-click RoboCop: Rogue City and choose Properties.
  3. Open Installed Files.
  4. Select Verify integrity of game files.
  5. Wait for the scan and any redownload to finish, then restart Steam.

Steam’s wording can change slightly between client versions. Verification repairs mismatched installation files, but it does not repair a graphics driver, third-party overlay, unstable overclock, or corrupted user configuration outside the main installation.

Epic Games players should use the equivalent Verify option in the Epic Games Launcher, confirm that the game is patched, and disable the Epic overlay during testing.

2. Disable overlays and hook-based utilities

For one clean test, disable the Steam Overlay, Discord Overlay, NVIDIA App or GeForce Experience overlay, AMD Adrenalin overlay, Xbox Game Bar, recording software, ReShade, RGB utilities, MSI Afterburner, and RivaTuner Statistics Server. Third-party antivirus game modes can also inject into games.

These tools are not automatically faulty, and you do not need to remove them permanently. Re-enable them one at a time after the game becomes stable to identify the conflicting program.

3. Turn off advanced rendering features

If the game reaches the menu, open Options or Settings, then Graphics or Display. Temporarily set the upscaler to Off or Native, set Frame Generation to Off, and disable ray tracing. Restart the game after changing the settings.

Community reports describe improvement in some cutscene and Unreal Engine crash scenarios after disabling DLSS, FSR, or frame generation, but this is not a universal or officially confirmed fix. Treat the settings as diagnostic variables. If stability returns, re-enable features one at a time: upscaling first, frame generation next, then ray tracing or other demanding effects.

4. Remove overclocks and undervolts

Return the GPU core and memory clocks, voltage, power limit, CPU overclock or undervolt, and custom tuning profiles to their defaults. If instability remains and you suspect memory, temporarily disable XMP or EXPO as well.

A demanding game can expose marginal instability even when other games appear to work. A desktop crash often points to software, drivers, rendering features, or game files; a freeze, blue screen, reboot, or power-off can indicate a thermal, memory, motherboard, power-supply, or other hardware problem.

Fix launch and Unreal Engine crashes

Update or clean-install the graphics driver

Download the latest stable driver for your GPU directly from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel and restart Windows after installation. If the crashes began immediately after a driver update, testing the previous stable driver can be reasonable. Use the driver’s clean-install option when a normal update does not help.

Do not assume a particular driver version fixes this game: there is no supplied game-specific evidence establishing a universally best NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel driver. Avoid beta or modified drivers while troubleshooting unless official support requests one.

Lower the rendering load

For a diagnostic run, select the High or Medium preset instead of Ultra, turn ray tracing off, lower shadows and reflections, and reduce textures if VRAM usage is near the GPU’s limit. Test a normal native or fixed lower resolution rather than an unusual scaling mode.

This is not necessarily a permanent image-quality recommendation. It helps determine whether the crash is associated with GPU load, VRAM pressure, or a particular feature. Some community reports say lowering maximum settings helped, but that evidence is anecdotal.

Try borderless or windowed mode

If the game crashes during a resolution change or shows a black screen, use the in-game display settings to test Borderless Windowed or Windowed mode. This is safer than copying random Unreal Engine launch commands from unrelated games. The available evidence does not establish a reliable DirectX 11 workaround for the original title, so do not treat one as a guaranteed fix.

Reset RoboCop’s local configuration

A bad resolution, display mode, or graphics toggle can prevent the game from reaching the menu. Reset the configuration only after the simpler steps fail, and back it up first:

  1. Close the game and Steam.
  2. Press Win+R.
  3. Enter %LOCALAPPDATA%RoboCopSavedConfig and press Enter.
  4. Copy the folder somewhere safe.
  5. Rename the relevant Windows folder to Windows-backup.
  6. Launch the game and allow it to recreate default files.

The exact folder can vary by Windows installation, game build, or distribution. Renaming is safer than deleting: it may reset graphics preferences and other local settings, but it preserves a way to restore them. Community posts also mention editing Engine.ini; treat that as an advanced, reversible experiment rather than an official support instruction.

If the crash occurs during shaders or a cutscene

On first launch, shader creation can take time. After updating, verifying files, restarting Windows, and closing overlays, launch with default graphics settings and avoid repeatedly force-closing the process while shaders are being created.

If it crashes consistently after the opening or another cutscene, first disable upscaling, frame generation, and ray tracing. Then test with a lower preset and a borderless window. Community reports have connected DLSS and frame generation with some cutscene-transition crashes, but the result can depend on the GPU, driver, game build, and settings.

If it crashes after extended play

Monitor temperatures and VRAM usage without an overlay if possible, or check them after the test. Return the system to stock settings, close monitoring and recording utilities, lower the preset, and reduce textures if VRAM is close to full. Disconnect unnecessary USB devices temporarily if the crash began after adding a peripheral or utility.

If Windows blue-screens, freezes, reboots, or powers off, stop treating the issue as a simple game configuration problem. Check Windows and hardware stability, RAM settings, GPU and CPU temperatures, power connections, and the power supply. Repeated hard shutdowns can damage data and should not be solved by endlessly lowering game settings.

When the problem is probably a game bug

A crash that happens at the same mission, interaction, or cutscene every time—especially after files, drivers, overlays, and settings have been tested—is more suggestive of a title-specific defect than a general PC failure.

Before reporting it, record the mission, exact interaction or cutscene, whether it happens every time, your GPU and driver version, Windows version, CPU, GPU, RAM, storefront, and the rendering features enabled. Test whether a new game or another save behaves differently, but do not overwrite the original save.

Submit the report through Nacon’s RoboCop support hub or its bug-report page. Include the exact crash message, screenshots or logs if requested, whether verification helped, and whether disabling overlays or frame generation changed the result. The Steam support page also lists [email protected], but the current MyNacon form is the better route for a structured platform-specific report.

Avoid these supposed fixes

  • Do not download replacement DLLs or “all-in-one DLL repair” tools.
  • Do not use registry cleaners, paid driver-updaters, or game boosters as a first response.
  • Do not delete save folders or configuration files without a backup.
  • Do not copy arbitrary Unreal Engine launch commands from unrelated games.
  • Do not use unofficial patches, executable replacements, or crack files.
  • Do not make “run as administrator” the first recommendation; it is not a reliable universal fix and can create permission complications.
  • Do not buy a GPU or SSD until you have checked requirements, free space, drivers, files, settings, and system stability.
