Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallIf Rocket League does nothing, changes to Running and returns to Launch, closes after the splash screen, or shows LS-0013/LS-0026, work through the fixes below in order. Start with Epic’s service status, a complete launcher restart, and file verification; reinstalling should be the last resort.
Identify the symptom first
- Epic Games Launcher does nothing: focus on launcher updates, cache, permissions, and service status.
- Running changes back to Launch: verify files, clear both caches, check security software, and disable background tools.
- Instant close, black screen, or frozen splash: reset local settings, check DirectX 11 and graphics drivers, and try default video settings or Windowed mode.
- LS-0013: follow the file-verification, cache, update, security, and background-app sequence in this guide. Epic’s error guide is at LS-0013 troubleshooting.
- LS-0026: Epic identifies this as a launch-related issue; running the launcher as administrator is an official initial workaround. See Epic’s LS-0026 guidance.
- Reaches the menu but cannot connect: that is a network or service problem, not an executable launch failure.
Check whether Epic or Rocket League is down
- Open Epic’s server-status page.
- Review Epic Games Store, Epic Online Services, and Rocket League entries.
- If an incident is reported, wait for recovery instead of repeatedly reinstalling.
- If services are operational, continue with local fixes. Epic recommends this check for launcher crashes and failed game starts (launcher troubleshooting).
Restart and update the Epic Games Launcher
- Close Rocket League.
- Right-click the Epic icon in the Windows system tray and choose Exit.
- Reopen Epic Games Launcher. If it is frozen, use Task Manager to end Epic Games Launcher processes first.
- Click your profile icon, choose Settings, and select Restart and Update if it appears.
- Restart Windows, then try Rocket League from Library. Epic documents the update path at Epic Games Launcher troubleshooting.
Verify Rocket League’s files
- Open Epic Games Launcher and select Library.
- Find Rocket League, click its three dots, and choose Manage.
- Click Verify and wait for validation and repair to finish.
- Launch the game again.
Verification replaces files that differ from the installed version and should not delete saved data, according to Epic’s file-verification instructions. If Verify is unavailable, confirm that the launcher is online, you are signed into the owning account, and the game remains installed in its original location. Do not manually delete the game folder first.
Clear the two different caches
Epic Games Launcher web cache
- Exit Epic Games Launcher completely.
- Press Windows + R, enter
%localappdata%, and press Enter. - Open
EpicGamesLauncherSaved. - Delete
webcache,webcache_4147, andwebcache_4430if present. - Reopen the launcher and test Rocket League.
This does not uninstall games; the launcher rebuilds these folders. See Epic’s cache procedure.
Rocket League’s local cache
- Close Rocket League.
- In File Explorer, open
DocumentsMy GamesRocket LeagueTAGame. - Delete the Cache file or folder.
- Restart Windows and launch the game.
Rocket League recreates this cache on startup. If Documents is redirected or synchronized by OneDrive, search the actual Documents location for the Rocket League folder rather than creating a duplicate. The official path is described at Epic’s cache guidance.

Disable mods, overlays, and background software
Temporarily close BakkesMod, Discord and GPU overlays, Xbox Game Bar capture, MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner, recording or streaming tools, RGB and controller utilities, other launchers, and cloud-sync software actively handling the Rocket League Documents folder. Restart Epic and test. Re-enable categories one at a time to identify a conflict; Epic lists mods and third-party applications among its first launch checks (Rocket League launch troubleshooting).
Check permissions and security blocks
Run the launcher as administrator
- Exit Epic Games Launcher.
- Right-click its shortcut and select Run as administrator.
- Approve the Windows prompt and launch Rocket League.
This is an official workaround for some LS-0026 and permission-related failures, not a universal cure. If it makes another component fail, test normal launch again.

Review antivirus and firewall decisions
Check whether Windows Security or another antivirus quarantined or blocked Epic Games Launcher or Rocket League. If the files are from the official installation, add narrow, temporary exceptions only as needed, then restore protection. Microsoft explains exclusions at Add an exclusion to Windows Security. Never download replacement DLLs from unofficial sites.
Rebuild Rocket League’s local configuration
- Close Rocket League and Epic Games Launcher.
- Open
DocumentsMy Games. - Right-click Rocket League, choose Rename, and name it
Rocket League Old. - Restart Windows and launch the game.
The game should create a fresh folder. This can reset graphics, controller, and other local settings, so keep the old folder and do not delete it immediately. Restore only known-safe personal files if necessary. Epic’s procedure is documented at Rename the Rocket League folder.

DirectX, Windows, and drivers
Rocket League requires DirectX 11 (Epic’s DirectX requirement). Install pending Windows updates, update your NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel driver from the manufacturer’s official source, and restart. If the failure began immediately after a driver update, test a rollback or clean installation. On laptops, assign Rocket League to the intended dedicated or integrated GPU.
Use default video settings or Windowed mode
A damaged display configuration can prevent the game reaching its menu. Follow Epic’s default-video-settings procedure rather than using undocumented launch arguments. If you can reach settings, change Display Mode to Windowed. If not, rebuild the Rocket League folder above.

| CPU | 2.5 GHz dual-core | 3.0+ GHz quad-core |
| Memory | 4 GB RAM | 8 GB RAM |

| Storage | 20 GB available | 20 GB available |

These are the requirements shown on Epic’s page (Rocket League system requirements), not a guarantee that every old Windows release works with current launchers, drivers, or security components. A currently supported Windows version is the safer choice.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Targeted paths for LS-0013 and LS-0026
LS-0013
- Verify Rocket League files.
- Clear the Epic launcher cache and Rocket League cache.
- Install Windows and graphics-driver updates.
- Disable mods, overlays, and background applications.
- Check antivirus and firewall blocks.
- Try administrator mode, then consider folder rebuilding and later reinstall options.
LS-0026
Check the live status page, update the launcher, run it as administrator, verify files, clear its cache, and disable background applications. Epic says it is investigating this launch issue, so a local reinstall may not resolve every occurrence.
Best Value
Use a clean startup when software conflicts remain
A clean boot isolates startup services and applications that interfere with the game. Use Microsoft’s current clean-startup guidance after ordinary fixes fail or the game works only when programs are closed. Restore normal startup services afterward; otherwise other Windows applications may remain disabled.
Repair Microsoft components for runtime errors
For .NET, Visual C++, NTDLL, or other runtime messages, update .NET through Microsoft and repair or reinstall the supported Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables, then restart Windows. Epic includes these components in its Rocket League launch and crash guidance. Do not obtain individual DLL files from download sites.
Reinstall only as a last resort
Reinstall Epic Games Launcher
- Exit it from the system tray.
- Open an elevated Command Prompt and run
sfc /scannow. - Restart Windows.
- Open Add or Remove Programs and uninstall Epic Games Launcher.
- Download the current installer from Epic’s official website, reinstall, and sign in.
Epic warns that its launcher-reinstallation process removes installed titles, making this substantially more disruptive than verification or cache cleanup (launcher support).
Reinstall Rocket League
Do this only if verification cannot repair the installation, the game folder is missing or corrupted, rebuilding local data fails, or LS-0013 persists after the other checks. Epic’s installation guide is at Install Rocket League through Epic Games Launcher. The default location is C:Program FilesEpic Games, although another location may have been chosen.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsSpecial cases
- Windows N: use Epic’s Windows N-specific support article at this page; media components may be absent.
- OneDrive or redirected Documents: locate the real Rocket League folder before deleting or renaming anything.
- Post-launch connection failure: use Rocket League connection troubleshooting for service status, region, router, clock, and firewall checks.
- Controller or account issue: troubleshoot it after the executable launches; neither normally prevents startup.
When to contact Epic support
Include the exact error code, Windows edition and version, GPU and driver version, the last screen reached, whether verification completed, whether overlays were disabled or a clean boot changed the result, and any logs Epic requests. This lets support distinguish an installation problem from a launcher, driver, security, or service issue.
