Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Start by identifying when the failure happens, then check whether NVIDIA’s release notes describe that exact combination of driver, game, display connection, or feature. A boot-time DisplayPort black screen and a crash in one game can have different causes; neither alone proves the RTX 5070 is faulty.
Identify the failure pattern first
Before changing drivers or hardware, note what the PC is doing when the problem occurs. “Black screen” can mean no picture at boot, a signal loss after Windows starts, a display that will not wake, or a game that stops rendering while the computer remains on.
- No display during boot: Record whether the monitor shows “no signal” and whether the problem occurs before Windows loads.
- Black screen after Windows loads: Note whether it follows driver startup, login, or a particular display-mode change.
- Signal loss during a game: Check whether sound continues and whether the whole PC restarts or only the display goes dark.
- Game-only crash: Record the game title, when it exits, and whether an overlay is enabled.
- Failure on wake: Note whether restarting the monitor, reconnecting the display, or restarting the PC restores the picture.
Write down the exact RTX 5070 board maker and model, Windows version, NVIDIA driver version, monitor model, connection type and port, refresh rate, and any recent driver or system changes. These details make it possible to compare the fault with a narrowly described known issue rather than treating all crashes alike.
Check the correct NVIDIA driver and release notes
Use NVIDIA’s driver search to select the exact product and Windows operating system before downloading. Confirm that the package lists GeForce RTX 5070 support and read its release notes for your game or display symptom. NVIDIA recommends updating to the latest driver version, but an update is not a guarantee that every black screen or crash will be fixed.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
NVIDIA lists Game Ready drivers for gaming support and Studio drivers for creative applications. Choose the family that fits your main workload; the available information does not establish that switching between them is a general cure for RTX 5070 problems. See NVIDIA’s explanation of Studio drivers and its Game Ready driver information.
The driver details available for this article include Game Ready 617.14, listed by NVIDIA as WHQL, released September 22, 2026, and supporting Windows 10 64-bit, Windows 11, and RTX 5070. Driver listings change, so verify the current package and its notes on NVIDIA’s page when you install rather than relying on a version number in an article.

Match the symptom to a documented issue
DisplayPort black screen at boot
NVIDIA documented a specific case in which some monitors connected over DisplayPort produced a black screen when the PC booted. NVIDIA said GeForce Hotfix Driver 572.65 addressed it; the hotfix was based on 572.60. The later GeForce Game Ready Driver 572.70 also listed the certain-monitor DisplayPort boot issue as fixed. These are historical, narrowly scoped examples—not evidence that every black screen, monitor, or current driver has the same problem. See NVIDIA’s 572.65 hotfix announcement and RTX 5070 launch and driver information.
Crash limited to a game or overlay
Release notes can identify failures tied to a particular title, driver branch, or feature. NVIDIA’s July 28, 2026 listing for Game Ready Driver 610.88 names a Halo: Campaign Evolved crash on RTX 50 Series with R610 drivers. It also describes an exit-crash condition involving the NVIDIA App overlay in two named games. If your crash resembles one of these cases, compare the title, driver branch, and overlay condition with the official Game Ready driver listing and release notes; a different game or symptom may have a different cause.

Isolate the display path or game conditions
If the display goes black
- Check that the monitor is set to the input used by the PC and note whether it reports no signal.
- Record the cable type and the exact GPU and monitor ports in use. If another known-good display path is available, test it as a comparison; this is a diagnostic check, not a guaranteed fix.
- Note whether the failure happens at boot, after Windows loads, on wake, or only during a game. Also record whether it affects one monitor or more than one.
- Compare the connection and timing with the scope of the relevant NVIDIA release note before changing drivers.
If a game crashes
- Record the game title, the point at which it exits, and whether the whole system restarts or only the game closes.
- Note the NVIDIA driver version and whether the NVIDIA App overlay or another overlay is enabled.
- Check the driver’s release notes for a matching title, driver branch, or overlay condition. If the timing began after a driver change, record that as part of the report.
These checks help narrow the cause; NVIDIA’s cited release notes do not prescribe one universal troubleshooting sequence for every RTX 5070 issue.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. When to seek support or consider hardware failure
If the problem continues after checking the driver and release notes and comparing a known-good display path or relevant game conditions, collect the configuration details and a repeatable description of the failure. Contact NVIDIA, the graphics-card manufacturer, or the PC system builder as appropriate. A physical RTX 5070 replacement is worth considering only when the evidence points to a card fault; an isolated game crash or a display symptom by itself is not enough to diagnose one. NVIDIA’s RTX 5070 product page provides product and partner-card information, not a diagnosis of an individual PC.
