If Apex Legends opens but never reaches the lobby, first check EA’s server status and your platform’s service status, then confirm that an update has finished. After that, fully restart Apex and your device, repair the installation, clear the appropriate cache, and test your network and EA-account link. Reinstalling rarely helps until those checks have ruled out outages, authentication problems, and platform issues.
Identify what is actually failing
“The menu will not load” covers several different symptoms. Use the closest match to choose the fastest first step.

A status page can show “operational” while a regional, account-specific, or newly emerging fault is still developing, so use the symptom pattern as well as the status result.
First, check whether Apex or your platform is down
- Open EA’s live server-status page and check Apex Legends.
- Check the relevant platform: PlayStation Network, Xbox services, Steam, or Nintendo’s service page.
- Look at official EA or Apex communications for scheduled maintenance or a known incident.
If several players or devices show the same failure, stop changing local files and wait for the service to recover. Cache deletion and reinstalling cannot repair an outage.

Quick fixes that take a few minutes
Finish every pending update
Open Steam, the EA app, or Epic Games Store and inspect its Downloads or Library area. On console, open Apex’s update information. Let the download and installation complete, then restart the launcher or console. EA notes that a progress bar on Apex’s launch screen can mean Steam is updating in the background (EA error-code guidance).
Perform a complete restart
- Close Apex rather than leaving it suspended.
- On PC, exit Steam or the EA app completely.
- Restart or shut down the device.
- Turn off the router, wait about 30 seconds, turn it back on, and wait for internet service to return.
- Launch Apex again.
This clears stuck game, launcher, and authentication processes, but it is not a guaranteed fix.
Remove obvious connection interference
- Stop large downloads, streaming, VPNs, and proxies.
- Use Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi if available.
- Check whether other online games and the platform store work.
Repair Apex on PC
EA app: Library → Manage → Repair
- Open the EA app and select Library.
- Find Apex Legends and open its three-dot Manage menu.
- Select Repair.
- Wait for the scan and any replacement download to finish.
- Restart the EA app and launch Apex.
These are EA’s current repair steps for damaged or inconsistent files (EA crashing and freezing support).
Steam: verify installed files
- Open Steam and select Library.
- Right-click Apex Legends and choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Select Verify integrity of game files.
- Allow Steam to reacquire damaged or missing files, then restart Steam and Apex.
Steam’s verification process checks whether files are installed correctly and may replace modified files (Steam file-verification guide). It cannot fix an EA outage, an incorrect account link, or every anti-cheat failure.
Epic Games Store
Open your Library, use Apex’s three-dot menu, and choose the launcher’s built-in Verify option. Epic changes labels periodically; use the current on-screen verification command rather than deleting files manually.

Clear the launcher or console cache
EA app cache
- Open the EA app’s three-line menu.
- Choose Help, then App Recovery.
- Select Clear cache and restart the app.
If the EA app will not open, use Windows Start → All Apps → EA → App Recovery → Clear Cache. EA says this can help with offline mode, failed updates, stalled downloads, or games missing from the Library, but not with an outage (EA cache instructions).
PlayStation
Close Apex, restart the console, install pending game and system updates, and check PlayStation Network status. If loading still fails, use the cache/database-recovery options in the current PlayStation Safe Mode instructions for your console model. EA recommends Safe Mode recovery for persistent connection or loading problems (EA connection guidance); do not rely on button sequences copied from an older model.
Xbox
Quit Apex from the Xbox guide, restart the console, check Xbox service status, install updates, and reopen the game. Merely switching to another app can leave Apex suspended with a stale session.
Nintendo Switch and Switch 2
Restart the console, check for an Apex update, confirm internet connectivity, and clear the console cache through the current system settings. EA’s download page refers to Nintendo Switch 2 and says installations made before August 5, 2025 may require an update (EA download guidance). Menu and storage behavior differs between the original Switch and Switch 2, so follow the instructions for your model.
Test the network and EA-account connection
- Restart the router and device, then try Ethernet.
- If practical, test Apex on a phone hotspot. If it works there, investigate your home router, ISP route, DNS, firewall, NAT, or parental controls.
- If both networks fail, prioritize server, account, platform, or file causes.
- Confirm that you are signed into the intended EA Account and that Steam, PlayStation Network, Xbox, Nintendo, or Epic is linked to it.
- Do not launch Apex simultaneously through Steam and the EA app with the same linked account; EA warns this can create progression issues (Apex FAQ).
DNS changes are an optional, reversible experiment—not a universal Apex fix. Record the original settings, use a reputable provider if you test another one, and revert the change if it makes no difference. EA explains DNS in its connection guide but does not designate one public DNS provider as the correct solution.

Do not unlink an EA, Steam, console, or Epic account casually. EA warns that unlinking can affect access and progression; verify the account relationship first (EA account-linking guidance). If progress appears missing, review EA’s account/progression help (lost-progress support).
Fix crashes, overlays, drivers, and anti-cheat errors
- Temporarily close Discord, Steam and EA overlays, GPU recording tools, RGB or hardware-monitoring utilities, third-party antivirus inspection, VPNs, and overclocking software.
- Install current Windows and graphics-driver updates.
- Repair or verify Apex files before attempting a reinstall.
- For persistent crashes, use a clean boot to identify conflicting background tasks, following EA’s guidance.
- For anti-cheat integrity errors or code 30005, repair files, restart the PC, and follow the current anti-cheat instructions. Never download unofficial DLLs or anti-cheat replacements.

When reinstalling is justified
Reinstall only when service status is normal, updates are complete, cache clearing and file repair have failed, and the problem is isolated to one installation. Confirm the linked EA Account first. A reinstall can replace persistently corrupted local files, but it cannot repair an outage, account restriction, platform-service failure, or ISP routing problem.
If nothing works
- Record your platform, launcher, region, exact screen, error code, and date and time.
- Note whether another account, device, platform, or network is affected.
- Capture a screenshot or short video of the loading behavior.
- Check the Apex support hub and its current error-code articles.
- Contact EA for account or game issues; contact Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Steam, or Epic when the evidence points to that platform or store.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Apex down, or is it just me?
Compare EA’s server-status page with your platform’s status page and ask whether other accounts or networks show the same symptom. A normal status page does not rule out a regional or account-specific fault.
Does reinstalling Apex delete my progress?
Progress is associated with the linked EA Account, but reinstalling is not a substitute for verifying that account. Do not create a new account or unlink the existing one as a test.

Why does Apex work on a hotspot but not home Wi-Fi?
That points to the home router, ISP path, DNS, firewall, NAT, or parental controls. Restart the router, try Ethernet, and change one network setting at a time.

There is no reliable universal duration. Follow EA’s incident updates and retest periodically instead of repeatedly changing local files.
