If The Play’s the Thing has stopped progressing, the right next step depends on the exact journal objective and the interaction that failed. The official patch notes reviewed document one historical bug involving Sofus’s payment—not a universal fix for a stuck usher fight, missing character, or frozen dialogue. Start with a separate manual save and a reload from before the blocked interaction; treat the usher-fight suggestion below as anecdotal, not guaranteed.
Pinpoint the step that stopped
Priscilla writes a play intended to draw out Dudu. The quest proceeds through recruiting performers, casting roles, and staging the performance. Check the exact current objective in your journal: identifying the stalled step is more useful than treating every problem as the same quest bug. A walkthrough can help identify the sequence, but it is not an official diagnosis: Witcher.tools’ quest walkthrough.
- Note the journal objective and what you did immediately before progress stopped.
- Record your platform and game version; on PC, note whether mods are installed.
- Describe the specific failure: for example, an usher fight that will not begin, dialogue that will not continue, or a performance objective that remains incomplete.
What the official patch notes establish
CD Projekt RED’s Patch 1.10 changelog records a narrow historical bug: Sofus could take 280 crowns instead of 140 if Geralt agreed to fight, and the patch lists a correction to that payment issue. It does not say that the fix addresses a blocked usher fight or another progression problem. See the Patch 1.10 changelog.
The official Patch 4.04 announcement, dated 19 July 2023, says the update was available for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. Its listed fixes include quest issues elsewhere, but do not name The Play’s the Thing. Patch 4.01 also lists other quest and cutscene fixes without naming this quest: CD Projekt RED’s Patch 4.01 notes. These omissions mean the reviewed notes do not document a fix for this quest; they do not prove that no later or unlisted fix exists.

Try a low-risk recovery first
- Make a separate manual save. Use a new slot if your platform and current game state allow it, so the retry does not overwrite your fallback.
- Reload a save from before the interaction. If available, return to a point before the objective stopped progressing.
- Return to the objective area and follow the journal marker. Retry the intended interaction once you are back at the relevant location.
- Check for a game update. Confirm the installed version for your platform, then consult the relevant official patch notes or support if the objective remains blocked.
Reloading and retrying is general troubleshooting, not a developer-confirmed fix for this quest. Avoid deleting saves or installing third-party files as a first response.
If the usher fight will not start on PS4
One GameFAQs answer to a PS4 player suggests entering the crowd so the fight scene can begin. That is a player’s anecdotal suggestion, not a developer-confirmed diagnosis or a guaranteed fix. The same answer mentions clearing the console cache, but the available evidence does not establish that cache clearing resolves this quest issue. Read the GameFAQs report and answer.

When the problem persists
If retrying does not help, ask for assistance with the exact journal objective, platform, game version, whether PC mods are installed, and whether you have a save from before the interaction. Those details help distinguish symptoms; they do not imply that a verified fix exists for missing Priscilla, stuck dialogue, a failed performance, or another progression blocker. Consult platform-specific official support rather than risking your save with destructive workarounds.
