The “We could not find your account” message does not prove that Epic deleted your account. It usually means Epic could not match the email address or sign-in method you entered. First try the Epic email login and the platform sign-in you originally used. If email lookup still fails, choose Trouble signing in? → Recover account. If the error happens only in the Epic Games Launcher, clear its cache after checking that you can sign in on the website.
Important: Don’t create a new Epic account or unlink a console or Steam account yet. A new account can be empty, with no previous game progress. Epic says progress is stored on the Epic account, so identify the original account before changing links.
Why Epic Games can’t find your account
The message means the sign-in or recovery system did not match the information you supplied to an Epic account. Common explanations include:

- You entered a different, old, or mistyped email address.
- You used your PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, Microsoft, or Steam email in place of the Epic account email.
- You normally sign in through a platform button, but tried email login—or selected the wrong platform profile.
- Your Epic account was set up when you first launched a game on console, and its details are not the ones you expect.
- The email on the account was changed, or the account needs recovery because it is inactive or compromised.
- A browser session, blocked cookies, VPN, proxy, or launcher cache is interfering with sign-in.
A platform identity and an Epic account are related when linked, but they are not necessarily the same account or email address. The exact account state depends on how it was originally set up.

1. Try the sign-in method linked to your original account
Try Epic email sign-in
- Open the Epic Games sign-in page and choose the regular email sign-in option.
- Enter the email address you believe is attached to the Epic account, typing it manually rather than relying on autofill.
- If the password is rejected, use Forgot Password instead of repeatedly guessing.
- Try other plausible addresses, including older personal, school, or work email accounts. Search inboxes for Epic receipts, verification messages, password resets, and security alerts; these can help identify which address you used.
Epic recommends checking that you have the right email and resetting the password when credentials fail. If autofill keeps supplying the wrong details, disable it for the sign-in attempt. See Epic’s sign-in troubleshooting guide.
Try the platform button you originally used
If you usually play through a console or Steam, open Epic’s sign-in page in a private/incognito window and select the relevant platform icon. Sign in with the correct PlayStation Network, Xbox/Microsoft, Nintendo, or Steam profile. Once signed in, check your Epic account information and linked accounts.
Verify the actual platform profile before proceeding—especially on a shared console or household PC. The platform may already be linked to an Epic account using a different email. Epic recommends trying the platform sign-in to identify the connected account, and also recommends an incognito window or alternate browser for some login and account-linking errors (Epic support).
If Microsoft sign-in reports an external-login-credential problem, Epic says the Microsoft account may not have an Xbox profile; completing Xbox profile setup may be necessary before trying again. Epic also says a banned Xbox account cannot be linked. See Epic’s Xbox/Microsoft account guidance.

2. Use Epic’s account-recovery flow
If the email lookup says no account was found, don’t stop there. Epic’s documented recovery flow provides another route:
- On the Epic sign-in page, select Trouble signing in?
- Enter an email address that may have been used for the account.
- If Epic can’t find the account, select Recover account when offered.
- Follow the verification options shown. Depending on your account and access, these may include a 2FA method or a security code sent by email.
- If you cannot use the original email, choose Lost access to this email address? and follow the expanded recovery prompts.
The labels and available options can vary by language, region, and account state. Epic’s account-recovery instructions describe recovery through 2FA, an email security code, or an additional request when normal verification is unavailable. Recovery depends on Epic being able to verify ownership; it is not guaranteed.
Be ready to provide useful ownership details if the form asks, such as previous account email addresses, current or former display names, connected platform usernames, approximate account-creation date, games played or owned, purchase receipts or transaction details, prior support-ticket information, and the country or region where you created the account. Give these details only through Epic’s official recovery process. Never post your password, full payment-card number, or security codes in a public forum.
If you cannot pass 2FA
- Request a fresh code and use the newest one; older codes may have expired.
- Check spam or junk folders for an email code.
- If you use an authenticator app, synchronize your device’s clock and retry.
- Choose Try another way if Epic offers another verification method.
- If every 2FA method is unavailable, return to the account-recovery flow and follow its lost-access options.
Epic notes that an out-of-sync device clock can cause authenticator-code failures and directs users who have lost their 2FA methods to recovery options (sign-in troubleshooting).

3. Rule out browser, cookie, or network interference
Try these steps if the account details seem right, the problem occurs in just one browser, or sign-in works in a private window but not a normal one:
- Open Epic sign-in in a private/incognito window or a different browser.
- Enter credentials manually and temporarily turn off extensions that block cookies, scripts, or redirects.
- Make sure cookies are allowed for the sign-in flow.
- Temporarily disconnect a VPN or proxy, then retry. Restore it afterward if you normally use it.
- Refresh the page and sign in again.
Epic identifies blocked cookies as a possible cause of some sign-in errors and says VPN, hosting, or proxy services can interfere with certain login attempts. These tests can rule out browser or network trouble; they do not recover an account or establish ownership. See Epic’s troubleshooting steps.

First try signing in on the Epic website. If that works but the launcher continues to fail or shows a stale session, clearing the launcher’s web cache may help. It is a launcher troubleshooting step—not account recovery—and it cannot restore a deleted account or prove ownership.

- Exit the Epic Games Launcher completely. In the Windows notification area, click the upward arrow, right-click the Epic Games icon, and select Exit.
- Press Windows + R, enter
%localappdata%, and press Enter. - Open
EpicGamesLauncherSaved. - Delete whichever of these folders are present:
webcache,webcache_4147, andwebcache_4430. - Reopen the launcher and sign in again.
macOS
- Exit the Epic Games Launcher.
- In Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder….
- Enter
~/Library/Caches/com.epicgames.EpicGamesLauncher. - Move the
webcachefolder inside that location to the Trash, then reopen the launcher.
Cache folder names can vary depending on what is on the installation. Epic’s launcher troubleshooting instructions explain these cache steps. If the problem persists, check Epic’s server status and launcher updates before considering further launcher repairs. Reinstalling is a last resort: Epic warns its listed reinstall process removes installed titles, so don’t start there for an account-identification problem.

5. If you see a linking error or a new, empty account
If Epic says you previously linked a different account of the same platform type, or that your platform account is already linked to another Epic account, do not unlink it as a first fix. Sign in through the platform icon to identify the Epic account currently connected, then use Epic’s recovery process if it is not the one you expect. Epic describes these linking errors in its sign-in troubleshooting guide.
If you land in an account with no expected Fortnite or other game progress, you may have used a different platform profile or email, or created a new Epic account instead of recovering the original. Sign out, verify the platform profile, and try the original Epic or platform sign-in. Avoid further linking or unlinking until you know which account contains your history. Epic explains that creating a new account in this situation does not bring back prior progress (progress and account guidance).
When to contact Epic Support
Use Epic’s official recovery or support route if no likely email or platform sign-in identifies the account, the account email may have been changed, you have lost access to both email and 2FA, Epic marks the account inactive, or the correct account still lacks expected progress or purchases. An “inactive” message is a separate condition for which Epic says account recovery is required before signing in (Epic sign-in guidance).
If you suspect compromise, secure the email account associated with Epic first: change its password and enable 2FA. Then begin Epic’s recovery process and review connected accounts and account security after access is restored. Share passwords and recovery codes with no one claiming to help outside Epic’s official channels.
