As of October 4, 2026, CD PROJEKT RED’s October 1 Remastered PC Hotfix 5.00c addresses specific save/load and HairWorks problems, but the studio has not said that every reported issue is resolved.
Identify which Witcher 3 version and update you have
“After an update” describes timing, not a diagnosis. The Remastered edition became available on September 29, 2026, and availability and upgrade eligibility vary by platform and ownership. Confirm whether you are playing Remastered, an earlier release, or a platform-specific version; note your storefront and installed version. CD PROJEKT RED’s Remastered announcement describes the release and its availability.
Record what changed immediately before the problem began: a game patch, graphics-driver update, mod, setting, or operating-system update. Also identify the symptom: failure to launch, a crash during play, stuttering or low frame rate, or saving/loading trouble. Check the store for available updates, then compare the installed version and platform with the relevant official news and patch notes. Older release advice may not apply to Remastered.
Install the hotfix that matches your platform and symptom
Check the applicable notes before trying a workaround. CD PROJEKT RED posted Remastered Hotfix 5.00b and PC Hotfix 5.00c on October 1, 2026. They address different issues, and neither should be treated as a universal fix.

Remastered PC: Hotfix 5.00c
The PC Hotfix 5.00c notes say the update fixed saving and loading when the Documents-folder path contained special characters. They also say CDPR reverted a change associated with significant performance and visual problems for some players using HairWorks. The notes list additional audio, visual, telemetry, GOG achievement, and Classic-launch fixes. If either named issue matches yours, make sure 5.00c is installed before changing unrelated settings.
Remastered: Hotfix 5.00b
The 5.00b notice covers fixes including unavailable DLSS in the PC Xbox Play Anywhere version and lighting adjustments, such as overly dark interiors. Its October 1 notice said CDPR was investigating save issues and preparing a PC hotfix; the subsequent 5.00c notes document the special-character Documents-path fix. That specific fix does not establish that every save problem is resolved.

Earlier releases and console versions
Use notes for the exact release and platform rather than carrying forward old PC settings advice. For example, patch 4.02 in March 2023 included a DX12 CPU-core-utilization improvement and fixes for stuttering and an Xbox Series X Ray Tracing Mode crash. Those are historical changes, not current Remastered diagnoses. The 2022 next-gen notes also document platform differences, including features that vary by console. Console players should check their platform’s applicable update and should not follow PC driver-cleanup steps.
On PC, work through the supported checks
CD PROJEKT RED’s guidance for performance issues and game crashes supports the following troubleshooting sequence. Change one thing at a time and check whether the symptom changes.

- Verify the game files. Use the file-verification or repair option in your storefront’s game settings. This checks the installed files and can replace damaged or missing ones; the exact menu labels depend on the store.
- Close nonessential software and test without overlays. Exit background apps, then disable overlays such as Discord, Ubisoft Connect, or GOG Galaxy for a test. Also disable unnecessary monitoring utilities. If you temporarily disable antivirus or anti-malware software to diagnose a conflict, re-enable it afterward; do not leave security protection off as a routine fix.
- Review recent graphics-driver changes. If the issue started immediately after a driver update, CDPR’s performance guidance suggests trying the previous driver. Otherwise, its support guidance recommends a clean driver installation. Follow the GPU maker’s official instructions and support channel; no specific driver version is established as a fix for every player.
- Compare your hardware with the right target. Check requirements for your edition and intended settings, not just the minimum needed to launch. Remastered requirements reported by PC Gamer distinguish lower-setting targets from the substantially more demanding path-tracing target. That does not mean every player needs a new graphics card: first compare your own components and settings with the target you want.
Match the next step to the symptom

Report a persistent problem with useful evidence
If the official update and PC checks do not resolve the issue, contact CD PROJEKT RED Technical Support. The October 1 Hotfix 5.00b notice directs players to the support portal, and CDPR’s performance guidance asks for a video if possible. For an issue tied to a particular location, include a relevant save file; the default Windows save folder is %userprofile%DocumentsThe Witcher 3gamesaves.
Include the exact error message, what you were doing when the problem occurred, how often it happens, your platform and storefront, installed game version, and steps already tried. PC players should add their GPU and driver version. If the problem followed a particular update, mod, or setting change, say so. On October 1, CDPR said it was continuing to investigate reported issues; that statement does not identify which individual problems remained open.
