If games are installed on your PC but missing from the Xbox app, first identify which service installed them. The Xbox app does not automatically manage games installed by Steam, Epic Games Store, EA app, Ubisoft Connect, or Battle.net. For Xbox or Microsoft Store installations, verify both accounts, restart Windows, update the relevant apps, check Microsoft Store Library, then repair the Xbox and Store apps before considering Gaming Services or a reinstall.
Identify what “missing” means
These situations require different fixes:
- The Xbox app’s installed list is missing a game whose files remain on disk.
- The game appears but shows Install instead of Play.
- Microsoft Store shows the game, but Xbox does not.
- The title appears under another Microsoft account.
- The files were installed by another launcher.
- The game was moved to another drive or left behind after Windows was reinstalled.
- A library filter hides the title.
- The title is unavailable because of region, subscription, compatibility, authorization, or catalog changes.
A folder on your hard drive proves that files exist; it does not prove that the Xbox app owns or manages that installation.
First check the installation source

Confirm both accounts and the entitlement
Xbox and Microsoft Store can be signed into different accounts. Compare:
- The account shown in the Xbox app.
- The account shown in Microsoft Store.
- The Microsoft account that bought the game.
- The account holding the PC Game Pass subscription.
- The Xbox profile or gamertag linked to that Microsoft account.
The Xbox account supplies gaming identity, achievements, and friends; the Microsoft Store account can control licensing and installation authorization. Sign-in behavior varies by title and entitlement, so verify the account that actually owns or installed this game.

In Microsoft Store, open Library (sometimes labeled My Library) and search for the title. Microsoft documents Library-based discovery and installation here: Find and install your Microsoft downloads from Microsoft Store. If the title is absent, check the purchasing account’s Order history. Microsoft lists wrong-account, family settings, regional availability, compatibility, product removal, and device authorization as possible reasons an item cannot be found: Microsoft Store app and game troubleshooting.

Run the low-risk fixes in order
1. Restart Windows
- Close Xbox and Microsoft Store.
- Restart Windows 11.
- Open Microsoft Store first and let pending updates finish.
- Open Xbox and check Library again.

2. Update Windows, Store, and Xbox
- Go to Start > Settings > Windows Update > Check for updates, install everything offered, and restart.
- Open Microsoft Store > Library > Get updates. Labels can vary by Store revision.
- Let the Xbox app update through Microsoft Store if an update is pending.
3. Clear Xbox Library filters
Open the Xbox app Library, clear every filter, select the view that includes installed PC games, and search using the game’s exact name. Check owned, installed, subscription, hidden, archived, and unavailable views when those controls exist in your build.

4. Reset the Microsoft Store cache
- Press Windows key + R.
- Enter
wsreset.exeand select OK. - Wait for the blank Command Prompt window to close and Microsoft Store to reopen.
- Restart Windows if Xbox or Store still shows stale information.
wsreset.exe resets the Store cache; it is not a complete repair of Xbox or Gaming Services. Microsoft’s procedure is documented at this Store support page.

Windows 11 exposes recovery controls for apps that support them. Microsoft’s general guidance is at Windows app repair and reset guidance.
Repair Xbox
- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find Xbox, select the three-dot menu, then Advanced options.
- Select Terminate if available, then Repair.
- Reopen Xbox and test the Library.
- If it still fails, return to the same page and select Reset.
Repair is the safer first choice. Reset can remove cached sign-in state and preferences, so expect to sign in again. Do not manually delete game folders.

Repair Microsoft Store
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Microsoft Store > Advanced options.
- Choose Repair, restart Store, and test Library.
- Use Reset only if Repair fails, then sign in again.
Some apps do not expose Repair or Reset. Microsoft also recommends reinstalling Store apps from Library when recovery options do not solve the problem: Fix problems with apps from Microsoft Store.
Check the drive and old installations
Open File Explorer > This PC and confirm that the drive containing the game is connected and has its expected letter. Consider whether the drive is external, intermittently mounted, encrypted, permission-restricted, or short on free space. A Windows upgrade or reinstall may leave files on a secondary drive without preserving the Xbox app’s registration.
Do not promise that Xbox can scan and import every existing folder. Depending on the title and current app build, it may offer verification, reuse, or a fresh installation instead. Do not delete WindowsApps, XboxGames, or protected folders while investigating. When Gaming Services is the failing layer
Gaming Services is separate from the Xbox app and Store. Suspect it when Xbox opens but installations or launches consistently fail, Store repeatedly asks to install Gaming Services, or an owned title cannot be installed after updates.
- Complete the account, update, cache, and app-repair steps first.
- Record the game’s drive and folder before changing system components.
- Use Microsoft’s current Xbox PC installation troubleshooting instructions for Gaming Services recovery: Xbox PC game-installation issues.
Gaming Services reinstall procedures and PowerShell commands can change with Windows and Xbox builds. Avoid copying an unverified command from a forum, and treat reinstalling Gaming Services as a possible remedy rather than a guarantee.
If the game was installed by another launcher
Open Steam, Epic Games Store, EA app, Ubisoft Connect, or Battle.net and check its own Library and installation path. The Xbox app’s catalog, Xbox profile integration, or an ownership tile does not transfer management of that installation. Reinstalling Xbox will not convert a Steam or Epic installation into an Xbox-managed game.

Last resort: reinstall Xbox
Before uninstalling, record the installation drive and folder, confirm which games are Xbox or Microsoft Store installations, check whether saves are synchronized through Xbox cloud saves or stored locally, and make sure you know the Microsoft account and Xbox profile credentials. Then:
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Xbox and uninstall it.
- Restart Windows.
- Reinstall Xbox from Microsoft Store.
- Sign into the correct account and review Library and installation settings.
Reinstalling the app may require configuration again and does not guarantee that old files will be adopted. Keep the folders until the installation is accounted for; a redownload may ultimately be necessary.
When to escalate
Contact Microsoft Support for Store licensing, account authorization, Xbox app, or Gaming Services failures. Contact the game publisher or the launcher’s support team for titles installed through Steam, Epic, EA, Ubisoft, Battle.net, or another non-Microsoft ecosystem.
