The Discord message “Unable to load profile banner, badges, and About Me” is a symptom, not a diagnosis. If it appears for one or two people, the other account’s Profile Privacy settings, your relationship to that account, or blocking may explain it. If it appears on nearly every profile, suspect Discord’s client, cache, connection, account session, or a temporary service problem. The banner wording needs extra caution: Discord’s current privacy documentation lists the banner as visible even when bio and badges are hidden.
First, identify the pattern

Why privacy may hide About Me and badges
Discord’s current Profile Privacy controls can restrict profile information to one of three audiences:
- Friends & All Servers
- Friends & Small Servers Only (Discord documents “small” as 200 or fewer members)
- Friends Only
Depending on that audience, Discord may hide custom status, pronouns, badges, activity, connected accounts, bio/About Me, widgets, and wishlists. The same page says the avatar, banner, display name, username, server tag, account age, mutual friends, and mutual servers remain visible. Consequently, seeing an error for banner, badges, and About Me is not conclusive proof that privacy caused it; the banner portion can indicate a loading problem, a separate visibility condition, or a client/API inconsistency.

- Desktop or browser: select the lower-left cogwheel, open Data & Privacy, scroll to Profile Privacy, and review the audience.
- Mobile: tap You, tap the upper-right cogwheel, open Data & Privacy, then Profile Privacy.
Discord may still be rolling this feature out, so the menu may not appear on every account or app build. A friend request is not a guaranteed fix and should not be used to pressure someone to change a privacy choice. Do not treat this message as reliable proof that you were blocked; Discord does not provide a definitive block confirmation through this error.
Run a quick privacy test
- Open a profile that fails.
- Open a confirmed friend’s profile.
- Open a known mutual-server member’s profile, including someone in a server with 200 or fewer members if relevant.
- Repeat the test in the desktop/browser client and the mobile app.
If only a non-friend’s card fails while friends load normally, privacy or relationship rules are more likely than a broken installation. If the same profile fails everywhere, the other account may have unavailable data or a temporary account-side problem.
When every profile fails: repair the client
Follow these steps in order; clearing data or reinstalling should not be your first move.

- Check Discord’s Status page for an incident.
- Fully quit Discord and reopen it. Minimizing the window is not a restart.
- Update Discord from the current desktop or mobile app store.
- Open Discord in a supported browser. Hard-refresh the page, try a private window, and temporarily disable ad blockers, script blockers, and cosmetic/privacy extensions.
- Test another connection, such as a phone hotspot. Temporarily disable a VPN, proxy, DNS filter, firewall rule, or security tool only as a diagnostic test.
- Try the opposite platform: mobile if desktop fails, or desktop/browser if mobile fails.
Clear Discord’s documented cache
Close Discord first. Discord’s troubleshooting guide documents these locations:
Windows: %appdata%/discord/Cache
macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/discord/CacheDelete only the cache contents, not unrelated folders. Installation layouts can change between builds, so these are the locations Discord documented at the time of publication. Cache clearing is a troubleshooting step, not a guaranteed cure. If your own profile will not load or save
Privacy rules affecting someone else’s profile should not normally prevent you from viewing your own data.
- Desktop/browser: open the cogwheel, choose Profiles, and inspect About Me and the banner.
- Mobile: tap your avatar, choose Edit Profile, and inspect the fields.
- Make a harmless edit, such as adding and removing one character, then select Save Changes.
- Sign out and back in, then test the browser version.
- If the banner is suspect, remove it and upload a compliant file before retrying.
The standard About Me field supports up to 190 characters, including emojis, Markdown, and links. Custom image or animated-GIF banners require Nitro, use PNG, JPG, or GIF, must be under 10 MB, and Discord lists a minimum of 680 × 240 pixels for the main profile banner. These are feature requirements, not a promise that Nitro will repair a loading error.
Check for a per-server profile
Nitro users can maintain different server-specific avatars, banners, About Me text, and profile themes. A profile that looks different in two servers may be working exactly as configured.

When to contact Discord Support
Escalate the issue if it affects your own profile, persists across desktop, browser, and mobile, survives a fresh login and cache reset, prevents profile changes from saving, or began after an account/app/server change and remains reproducible. Include:

- Date and approximate time, including time zone
- Platform and Discord app version
- Whether affected users are friends or mutual-server members
- Whether one profile or all profiles fail
- Screenshots or a recording
- Precise reproduction steps

Does this error prove that someone blocked me?
No. Blocking can affect what you can see, but Discord does not use this message as a reliable block confirmation. Compare other profiles and clients instead.

Will adding the person as a friend fix the profile?
Only if that person’s Profile Privacy audience allows friends to view the hidden fields. A request can be declined and is not a technical repair.
Does Nitro fix missing About Me or badges?
No. Nitro unlocks features such as custom banners, animated avatars, per-server profiles, and custom emojis. It does not repair a failed profile request.
Why can I see the avatar but not About Me?
Discord’s current privacy documentation lists avatars and banners as visible while About Me and badges may be hidden. That pattern is consistent with privacy settings, although a broader error can still be client-related.
Why does the profile work on mobile but not desktop?
The desktop cache, extensions, hardware acceleration, or desktop build may be at fault. Update, restart, clear the documented cache, and use the browser or mobile app temporarily.

Use the number of affected profiles as your shortcut: one profile usually points to privacy or account-specific data; every profile points to Discord, your client, or your connection. Because Discord currently treats banners differently from bio and badges, do not assume this exact wording proves a privacy restriction. Test another client and network, repair the local cache, and contact Discord Support if the problem follows your account everywhere.
