From the title screen, open Settings → Video → Graphics Mode and select Vibrant Visuals. If the option is still disabled, create a new world with resource packs and add-ons turned off. That test quickly separates a world-content problem from a platform, hardware, driver, or game-build problem.
Mojang identifies three main reasons Vibrant Visuals is disabled: you are trying to change the mode while inside a world, the device or graphics system is not compatible, or the world and its active content are incompatible. There is no Mojang-supported command or cheat that forces the mode on.
What a greyed-out Vibrant Visuals option means
A visible but unavailable setting usually means Minecraft has detected a restriction. It is different from Vibrant Visuals being selected but rendering incorrectly.
- Graphics Mode is disabled completely: you may still be inside a world, using local split-screen, running incompatible world content, or using an unsupported system.
- Vibrant Visuals appears in the list but cannot be selected: Minecraft is usually blocking it because of hardware compatibility, the active world, or a resource or texture pack.
- Vibrant Visuals can be selected but does not look active: this is more likely a rendering, pack, brightness, or performance problem than an availability problem.
- Vibrant Visuals is missing: the platform, edition, build, or installation may not support the feature.
Mojang’s Vibrant Visuals support guide says the mode is disabled automatically when system requirements are not met or when incompatible worlds or texture packs are being used.

Use the reliable fix first: change it from the title screen
- Save your progress.
- Select Save & Quit to leave the world.
- Wait until you are back at the Minecraft title screen.
- Open Settings.
- Choose Video.
- Find Graphics Mode.
- Select Vibrant Visuals.
- Return to the Play screen and reopen the world.
In the standard retail version, Minecraft generally does not let you change the graphics mode while you are actively playing a world. This is the first thing to check because it requires no reinstall, command, or change to your save.
If your version has Allow In-Game Graphics Mode Switching
Some Bedrock builds include Allow In-Game Graphics Mode Switching in Settings → Video. If you see it, return to the title screen, enable it, and then enter the world to test the selector.
This is a conditional convenience feature, not the main solution to a disabled control. Mojang introduced it during the 1.21.90 development cycle and noted that switching modes can affect texture quality. Its availability and behavior can vary by build. The current support guidance still recommends changing Graphics Mode from the title screen. A documented bug also describes cases where the toggle had to be disabled and enabled again after restarting Minecraft; see MCPE-220376 for that issue.
Run the clean-world test
The fastest way to determine whether your existing world is responsible is to test Vibrant Visuals in a completely ordinary world.
Free tools Windows power users keep installed
One-click scans. No signup required.
- Exit to the Minecraft title screen.
- Create a new survival or creative world.
- Do not use a Marketplace template.
- Leave resource packs, behavior packs, add-ons, and global resource packs disabled.
- Before entering the world, check Settings → Video → Graphics Mode.
- Select Vibrant Visuals and enter the new world.
Use the result as a diagnostic separator:
| Result | Most likely explanation | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Vibrant Visuals works in the new world | The original world, template, resource pack, or add-on is blocking it. | Remove or disable content from the affected world and test again. |
| It is greyed out in the new world too | The problem is probably platform-, hardware-, renderer-, driver-, split-screen-, or build-related. | Check edition, platform eligibility, updates, GPU details, and split-screen. |
| It works until a particular pack is enabled | That pack is incompatible with Vibrant Visuals. | Leave the pack disabled or find a version that supports the mode. |
If the new-world test works, do not delete the old world. Open the affected world’s edit screen from the Play menu and review its Resource Packs and Behavior Packs. Also check Settings → Global Resources for packs applied across the game. Disable nonessential content, restart Minecraft, and test the world again. Re-enable packs one at a time to identify the conflict.
Check that you are using Bedrock Edition
Vibrant Visuals is a graphics mode for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, not a normal Java Edition setting. On Windows, the Minecraft Launcher can contain both editions. Launch Minecraft for Windows or Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, not Java Edition.
Mojang’s edition and installation documentation treats Java for Windows, macOS, and Linux and Bedrock for Windows as separate choices in the Launcher. Mojang has said Java support for Vibrant Visuals is planned, but the cited FAQ does not provide a release date. Java players should not expect to find the Bedrock Video → Graphics Mode selector.
Check platform compatibility
Mojang’s current Vibrant Visuals compatibility page lists Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Android, and iOS. Eligibility is not the same as simply being able to run Bedrock: a device can run Minecraft normally and still fail the separate Vibrant Visuals compatibility check.
| Platform | Official position and practical guidance |
|---|---|
| Windows PC | Supported when Minecraft runs on DirectX 12, but DX12 alone is not a guarantee. The GPU, driver, feature support, and actual renderer also matter. |
| Xbox Series X|S | Supported. Update Minecraft, test from the title screen, and remove incompatible packs if the option is unavailable. |
| Xbox One / One S | Supported, although performance may be lower. If available, use Favor Performance rather than the highest visual preset. |
| PlayStation 4 | Supported, but performance and rendering limitations can occur. Install the current game update and test with local split-screen disabled. |
| PlayStation 5 | Supported. Test from the title screen without incompatible world content. |
| Android | Supported only on qualifying graphics hardware. GPU family, driver implementation, and Minecraft’s internal compatibility check matter more than RAM alone. |
| iPhone and iPad | Mojang’s current page lists A12, M1, or newer hardware. Running Bedrock on iOS does not automatically mean the device supports Vibrant Visuals. |
| Original Nintendo Switch | Not listed on Mojang’s current Vibrant Visuals compatibility page. Do not expect a local settings fix if the option is disabled. |
| ChromeOS, Amazon Fire, and other unlisted platforms | Compatibility is not confirmed by the cited official list. Treat the feature as unverified rather than guaranteed. |
Mojang has separately announced a native Minecraft version with Vibrant Visuals for Nintendo Switch 2. That announcement does not show that the original Nintendo Switch supports the feature; they are separate platforms.

Windows PC: why DirectX 12 may not be enough
For Windows, Mojang’s published requirement is that Minecraft run on DirectX 12. However, Windows having DirectX 12 installed does not prove that Vibrant Visuals should work. Microsoft distinguishes the DirectX API version from Direct3D hardware feature levels, which describe what the graphics hardware can actually do. Mojang also warns that older graphics cards that support DX12 may still be incompatible with Vibrant Visuals.
Use Windows’ diagnostic tool to check the actual adapter rather than relying on a generic statement such as this PC has DX12:
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
dxdiagand press Enter. - On the System tab, note the operating system and DirectX version.
- Open each Display tab and record the GPU name, driver, and available feature information.
- If the computer has both integrated and dedicated graphics, identify which adapter Minecraft is actually using.
- Install the latest graphics driver from Windows Update or the GPU manufacturer.
- Restart the PC, launch the retail Bedrock edition normally, and test from the title screen.
Microsoft explains the dxdiag procedure and how to save a diagnostic report. Its documentation on Direct3D 12 hardware feature levels explains why the API version and hardware capability should not be treated as the same thing.
Systems with two GPUs
A laptop may have an integrated Intel or AMD adapter and a separate NVIDIA or AMD GPU. If Minecraft is assigned to an adapter that does not pass the compatibility check, Vibrant Visuals can remain disabled even though another GPU in the computer appears capable.
Check the adapter listed by dxdiag, update both relevant drivers where appropriate, and use Windows’ graphics-app preferences or the GPU manufacturer’s control panel to select the intended adapter if Minecraft is listed there. Do not assume that forcing a different GPU will solve every case: the selected hardware still has to meet Minecraft’s requirements.
Community reports have described systems with apparently DX12-capable hardware, including some Intel UHD configurations and multi-GPU PCs, where the selector remained greyed out. These reports are useful clues about possible compatibility-detection failures, but they are not universal fixes or proof that every similar GPU is supported. See the Intel UHD compatibility report and related Microsoft community discussion as examples, not as official workarounds.
Android hardware requirements are not a guarantee
Mojang’s current main Vibrant Visuals page lists these Android GPU families:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- Adreno 640 or higher
- Mali-G68 or higher
- Mali-G77 or higher
- Xclipse 530 or higher
Those labels should be treated as published guidance, not a guarantee for every phone or tablet using a similar GPU. Minecraft may use a more specific internal device list, and the manufacturer’s driver implementation can affect the renderer.
Mojang’s public material is also inconsistent for some Mali hardware. Its pinned Vibrant Visuals FAQ separately mentions Mali G-57 and Mali-G610, while the current main page lists Mali-G68 and Mali-G77. Do not silently combine those lists or promise that every borderline Mali model will work.

On Android, update Minecraft through Google Play, update Android and the manufacturer’s system software, restart the device, and test a clean world from Settings → Video at the title screen. A device can appear to meet a published GPU threshold and still be rejected by Minecraft’s internal compatibility check.
iPhone and iPad requirements
Mojang’s current Vibrant Visuals page lists A12, M1, or newer hardware for iOS and iPadOS. The requirement for Vibrant Visuals is separate from the minimum requirement for Minecraft itself, so an older iPhone or iPad may run Bedrock while keeping the graphics mode unavailable.
Install the latest Minecraft update from the App Store, restart the device, and test from the title screen. If the selector is still greyed out on hardware below the listed threshold, there is unlikely to be a settings-based fix.
Remove incompatible worlds, texture packs, and add-ons
Not all Minecraft content is treated the same way. Mojang says that incompatible worlds and texture packs can disable Vibrant Visuals. Its FAQ distinguishes between content that can operate within a world and content that changes the world or rendering environment:
- Marketplace add-ons, skins, and persona items: Mojang identifies these as compatible within worlds.
- Marketplace worlds, Dynamic Worlds, templates, and texture packs: Mojang’s FAQ identified these as unsupported at the time it was published. Such content can force the world into Fancy or Simple graphics modes.
- Third-party resource packs and rendering-related add-ons: disable them during testing because they can conflict with the mode even if the game itself is supported.
This does not mean all Marketplace content disables Vibrant Visuals. The exact content type matters, and support can change in later updates.
Pack-isolation procedure
- Return to the title screen.
- Disable global resource packs in Settings → Global Resources.
- From the Play screen, open the affected world’s edit menu.
- Disable nonessential resource packs and behavior packs.
- Remove or disable unsupported Marketplace worlds, templates, and texture packs where the game allows it.
- Restart Minecraft and test the world.
- Re-enable packs one at a time until the incompatible item is identified.
Do not delete world folders, clear Minecraft’s application data, or reinstall the game as a first step. Those actions can put local saves at unnecessary risk and are not part of Mojang’s documented first-line guidance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsUpdate Minecraft, the operating system, and graphics drivers
Mojang recommends using the most recent Bedrock version for Vibrant Visuals. Updates can also fix rendering regressions and content-specific failures, so update before trying unofficial workarounds.
Windows
- Open the Minecraft Launcher.
- Select Minecraft for Windows.
- Open Installations.
- Choose Check for Updates, following Mojang’s manual Windows update instructions.
Then update Windows and the graphics driver, restart the PC, and launch Bedrock again. Microsoft recommends Windows Update or Device Manager and says that hardware manufacturers’ official websites may be needed for the latest driver; its driver guidance explains the options.
Outbyte Driver Updater is an optional way to check for outdated or incompatible Windows hardware drivers, but verify any GPU update against the manufacturer’s official guidance.
Android and iOS
- Android: open Google Play Store → profile icon → Manage apps & devices → Updates available → Minecraft → Update.
- iPhone and iPad: open the App Store → account profile → pending updates → Minecraft → Update.
Mojang says the installed Minecraft version appears in the lower-right corner of the title screen. Bedrock moved to year-based version numbering for 2026, so you may see versions such as 26.0, 26.20, or 26.30. Use the number shown in your title screen or store listing instead of relying on an old guide that names a particular build.

Disconnect local split-screen players
Vibrant Visuals does not support local split-screen. Mojang says Bedrock switches to Fancy or Simple rendering when multiple local players join.
If the option is disabled or disappears after another controller joins, disconnect the additional local players and test with one player only. This is an expected feature limitation rather than a graphics-card failure. Online multiplayer is a different situation; the relevant restriction is local split-screen.
Do not follow old Preview and Beta instructions blindly
Early tutorials can tell you to create a world and enable a Vibrant Visuals experiment under the world’s Experiments tab. That instruction applied to early 1.21.80 Preview/Beta builds.
Vibrant Visuals entered the retail Bedrock release with the 1.21.90 Chase the Skies update as a graphics mode, with supported devices using it as the default mode. Current retail players should normally use Settings → Video → Graphics Mode, not create a new world solely to enable the old experiment. Preview and Beta builds can have different menus, bugs, and eligibility rules.
If you are deliberately running Preview or Beta, identify that fact before troubleshooting. A fix or menu path from a Preview changelog may not apply to the standard retail release.

Greyed out versus visually broken
Use a different troubleshooting path when Vibrant Visuals is selectable but the image is wrong.
When the option is greyed out
- Exit the world and use the title-screen settings.
- Confirm that you launched Bedrock, not Java Edition.
- Test a new world with no packs.
- Disable local split-screen.
- Update Minecraft and, on Windows, the operating system and GPU driver.
- Verify the platform and hardware requirements.
- If it remains disabled everywhere, investigate a current build or compatibility bug.
When the mode is active but looks wrong
Symptoms such as excessive brightness or darkness, water or sky artifacts, color banding, light leaking underground, shadow popping, black or missing items, and severe frame-rate loss indicate a rendering or performance problem rather than a greyed-out availability problem.
Recommended Free Tools
Mojang’s known-issues post, updated July 30, 2025, listed issues including light leakage, shadow popping, water artifacts, sky color banding, and brightness-calibration inconsistencies. That dated list should not be read as proof that every issue remains unresolved in the current release. Later Bedrock notes document fixes or changes affecting Android rendering, PlayStation 4 shadows and reflections, Marketplace worlds that produced a white screen, and various water, fog, and item-rendering problems. Update first and check the current known-issues list, the Bedrock 26.30 changelog, and relevant Preview notes such as Preview 26.40.30.
Decision tree: identify the cause without risking your saves
- Are you playing Java Edition? Vibrant Visuals is not currently a normal Java graphics option. Launch Bedrock on a supported platform instead.
- Are you inside a world? Save and quit, then change the mode from Settings → Video at the title screen.
- Does it work in a new world with no packs? If yes, the original world or its content is the likely cause. Isolate packs rather than deleting the save.
- Is the platform officially listed? If no, there may be no local fix. The original Nintendo Switch, for example, is not on Mojang’s current list.
- Is Minecraft fully updated? Update the game, restart the device, and test again.
- On Windows, is the correct GPU and renderer being used? Check
dxdiag, the GPU driver, and any integrated/dedicated GPU selection. - Is local split-screen active? Disconnect the other local players and test alone.
- Does it remain greyed out on supported hardware in a clean world? Treat it as a possible build-specific compatibility bug and collect diagnostics before contacting support or reporting it.
When there is no local fix
A persistently disabled option on an unlisted platform or below the published hardware threshold is likely expected behavior. No command, cheat, registry edit, unofficial renderer injector, modified game file, or force-enable utility is a reliable Mojang-supported solution.
If your platform is officially supported and the option is greyed out in every clean world after updating, gather these details:
- Exact device model or GPU model.
- Operating system version.
- Minecraft version shown on the lower-right of the title screen.
- Whether you are using retail, Preview, or Beta.
- Whether the new-world test worked.
- Whether all packs were disabled.
- Whether local split-screen was active.
- On Windows, the saved
dxdiagreport and driver version.
Use Mojang’s official Minecraft Support channels or the Mojang bug tracker with that information. A report that includes the exact build, device, clean-world result, and pack status is much more useful than simply saying that Vibrant Visuals is missing. Avoid clearing application data or deleting local world files unless official support specifically instructs you to do so and you have backed up your saves.

Can a Minecraft command or cheat unlock Vibrant Visuals?
No Mojang-supported command or cheat bypasses the Vibrant Visuals compatibility check. Use the title-screen settings path, clean-world test, update steps, and platform diagnostics instead.
Why does Vibrant Visuals work in a new world but not my existing world?
That result strongly suggests the existing world, template, texture pack, resource pack, or add-on is incompatible. Disable the world’s nonessential packs and re-enable them one at a time. Do not delete the world as a first step.
Does the original Nintendo Switch support Vibrant Visuals?
The original Nintendo Switch is not listed on Mojang’s current Vibrant Visuals compatibility page. The separately announced Nintendo Switch 2 version should not be treated as evidence that the original Switch supports the mode.
Why is Vibrant Visuals greyed out when my PC has DirectX 12?
DirectX 12 availability is only part of the Windows requirement. Minecraft also checks the actual GPU, driver, renderer, and hardware feature support. Use dxdiag to identify the adapter and update the driver, but older DX12-capable cards can still be incompatible.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsThe Bottom Line
The correct order is simple: leave the world, select Settings → Video → Graphics Mode → Vibrant Visuals from the title screen, then test a new world with all nonessential content disabled. If it works only there, isolate the incompatible pack or template. If it fails everywhere, check Bedrock edition, split-screen, updates, platform eligibility, and the actual GPU or renderer. On an unlisted or incompatible device, a greyed-out option may be expected rather than fixable.
