“Network Not Responding” does not automatically mean Warframe is down. It means the game is not getting a timely response from a network service; the cause may be a Warframe or platform outage, or a problem with your device, router, ISP, firewall, or connection. First check whether other players are affected, then restart the game and network equipment, and test on Ethernet or a different connection before changing ports or DNS.
Use the steps below in order. If the issue is widespread, wait for an official update rather than changing your network settings.
Is Warframe down right now?
This guide cannot confirm live server status. Check Warframe’s official news and announcements and Warframe Support, and check the relevant platform’s service status if the problem is limited to Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, or mobile. Ask a friend on a different ISP or platform to test login, too.

Use the symptom to narrow down the cause

The warning can occur at login, during a mission, while joining friends or a relay, or when chat, voice, matchmaking, or account data stops responding. Those functions do not necessarily use the same service, so note exactly what fails. Digital Extremes describes the warning as an unstable or slow connection between your PC or console and Warframe’s servers. See its Network Not Responding troubleshooting guide.
Try these low-risk fixes first
- Close and relaunch Warframe. Test login, matchmaking, and chat separately.
- Restart your equipment. Shut down the PC or console, power off the modem and router, and wait about 30 seconds. Turn the modem back on and let it reconnect; then turn on the router and wait for the connection to return. Start the device and game. This can refresh local network sessions, but it is not a guaranteed fix.
- Pause competing network use. Stop large downloads, cloud backups, streaming, torrents, game updates on other devices, and large uploads. Heavy household traffic can make an unstable connection worse.
- Try Ethernet if available. A wired test helps distinguish Wi-Fi interference or signal problems from other causes.
- Temporarily disable a VPN or proxy. Test once, then restore it if it makes no difference. A VPN can change routing, but it can also add latency or cause stricter NAT; it is not a universal fix.
- Test another internet connection. A phone hotspot is useful for diagnosis, not necessarily for regular play. If Warframe works there but not at home, focus on your home router or ISP. Hotspot use may incur data charges, higher latency, mobile NAT restrictions, or unstable performance.
Digital Extremes’ basic network troubleshooting guide recommends checking network activity, using Ethernet where possible, and involving your ISP when other online services are affected.
Match the fix to the failure
Login fails, but other internet services work
Working web browsing does not prove Warframe’s login service is healthy. Check official announcements and ask someone on another network to test. If others can log in and only your device fails, restart it and the router, then try a different network. If the issue began after a game update or launcher change, check that your security software still allows the launcher and game; do not start with port forwarding or a reinstall.

Solo play works, but squads or friends do not
This pattern makes NAT, firewall rules, UPnP/NAT-PMP, and port conflicts more plausible than a total login outage. Run Warframe’s network analysis and check whether the game reports Strict NAT or a port issue. Details on those settings follow below.
Chat fails while gameplay works
Chat can fail independently of the rest of the game. Digital Extremes recommends testing another connection, checking router and firewall settings, and temporarily disabling VPN or proxy software. See its chat troubleshooting guide. If a hotspot fixes chat, the home network or its route to the chat service is a stronger suspect.
Warframe will not update
If the connection problem began during or after an interrupted update, check the launcher’s built-in verify or optimize option, if available in your current PC client. Menu labels can change, so follow the current client rather than an outdated menu path. On consoles, use the platform’s documented repair or cache procedures. Reinstalling cannot fix an outage, ISP problem, blocked traffic, or NAT configuration.

Check firewall and antivirus settings on PC
If a firewall or security product is blocking Warframe, add exceptions for Launcher.exe and Warframe.x64.exe rather than leaving protection off. Digital Extremes’ firewall guidance lists UDP ports 4950 and 4955, and TCP ports 6695–6699, in the context of its network and firewall checks.

A temporary firewall test can help identify whether filtering is responsible, but disable protection only briefly, then turn it back on and make a targeted exception. Do not download unofficial “network repair” utilities. A PC firewall exception and router port forwarding are different: the first permits traffic through software on the PC; the second directs incoming router traffic to a device.
Check UPnP, NAT-PMP, and Strict NAT
UPnP or NAT-PMP can let a supported router create the network mappings Warframe needs. On PC, the in-game path is Main Menu → Options → System; enable UPnP and/or NAT-PMP, then select Confirm. Warframe says Strict NAT can interfere with joining games, voice chat, or seeing friends online. It does not mean every solo activity requires Open NAT. Common causes include disabled or unsupported UPnP/NAT-PMP, a firewall block, two routers in series, carrier-grade NAT from the ISP, VPN routing, incorrect forwarding, or multiple Warframe devices competing for ports. If automatic mapping is unavailable, router settings vary by model. Before manual forwarding, give the PC or console a stable local IP address using the router’s DHCP reservation feature, then forward only the required UDP ports to that device. Use the ports shown by Warframe’s network analysis, and rerun the analysis afterward. Remove stale or duplicate rules when changing settings. If you have an ISP gateway plus a separate router, or suspect carrier-grade NAT, ask the ISP whether bridge mode or a public IPv4 address is available; forwarding may not work through CGNAT.

Resolve port conflicts
Warframe’s default UDP ports are 4950 and 4955, but the game may be set to different values. On PC, check Main Menu → Options → Gameplay → Network Ports [UDP]. If another application is using the selected ports, choose a different unused pair. Digital Extremes notes that programs using NAT-PMP, including some torrent clients, can cause conflicts. Consult its port-in-use guidance.

For multiple Warframe computers on one network, the second PC may need a different pair. Console capabilities differ; do not assume PC port-change steps apply to every platform. If you change the game’s ports, update matching router forwarding and firewall rules as needed. Forwarding is most relevant when network analysis reports a problem or multiplayer features fail—not as a universal fix for the warning.
Use IPv6 and DNS as diagnostic tests, not first-line fixes
IPv6: Warframe’s specific troubleshooting article suggests checking connectivity with test-ipv6.com and, as a diagnostic step on PC, temporarily disabling IPv6 if the test and symptoms point that way. A positive IPv6 test does not prove IPv6 is the cause. Record the original setting, test, and restore it if there is no improvement; do not disable IPv6 permanently by default.
DNS: Consider DNS only when symptoms suggest name-resolution trouble. Warframe’s DNS troubleshooting guidance recommends restarting the computer or console, modem, and router, then contacting the ISP; changing to Google Public DNS may help in some cases. Record the original settings before testing another reputable DNS provider. DNS changes will not repair packet loss, strict NAT, blocked UDP traffic, or a Warframe outage.

Contact your ISP if other online games or streaming services also fail, if Warframe works on a hotspot but not at home, or if the issue continues after basic tests. Ask about regional outages, packet loss, routing, DNS, modem signal or provisioning, carrier-grade NAT, double NAT, and whether inbound port mapping is supported. Keep track of when the problem happens; intermittent failures can point to Wi-Fi interference, congestion, ISP routing, a changing NAT mapping, or another device taking a port.
When to contact Warframe Support
If the issue persists and appears limited to Warframe, submit a request through Warframe Technical Support. Include:
- Your platform, operating system where relevant, region, and ISP.
- The exact error and when it occurs, with date, approximate time, and time zone.
- Which functions fail: login, updates, missions, matchmaking, friends, voice, or chat.
- Whether other games work, and whether Ethernet or a hotspot changes the result.
- Your router model, reported NAT status, and relevant firewall, antivirus, or VPN details.
- A screenshot of Warframe’s network analysis and any recent update, migration, or network change.
Do not include passwords, authentication codes, or publish private network details in public posts.
