The code alone also does not prove that your graphics card has failed.
What 0x887A0005 means—and what it does not tell you
Players may describe the symptom as a “DirectX error while playing COD Warzone.” One Microsoft Q&A report uses the longer wording “0x887A0005 (0x887A0006) (6068) D DirectX error,” but that is an individual support question, not an official definition of the code. A response suggests a graphics-driver problem or driver-game compatibility as possibilities; it does not establish a universal cause.
No named prevalence figure or success rate for fixes is available in the cited support material. Treat the steps below as a low-risk troubleshooting sequence, not a guaranteed remedy or a diagnosis of hardware failure.

These steps apply to Warzone on Windows PC. Activision’s PC troubleshooting guidance supports Windows 10 and Windows 11, advises keeping Windows current, and lists the game’s minimum system requirements. Check that your PC meets those requirements before moving on.

Check the driver for your exact graphics card
Use Activision’s live driver guidance and the GPU maker’s official driver page. Match the driver to the precise GPU model and system type—desktop, notebook, or workstation—rather than installing a version listed for a different category. Driver recommendations change, so confirm the current version before downloading.
On the page reviewed March 11, 2026, Activision listed AMD 25.12.1; NVIDIA desktop and notebook 591.59; NVIDIA workstation 582.08; and Intel 32.0.101.8531. Activision also noted that Maxwell and Pascal architectures had ended Game Ready support and listed 581.80 as their last recommended driver. These are dated recommendations, not a reason to install an incompatible driver.

If the crash started immediately after a driver update, note the GPU model, driver version, and when the problem began before changing versions. Intel’s Arc A750-specific article describes a bounded case: after driver 101.5186, Warzone 2.0 could freeze or crash at startup, including during shader loading; Intel says 101.5522 or newer fixes that issue. That report was last reviewed June 5, 2024. It does not show that the same driver change fixes this error on other GPUs.

Let shader preloading complete
After launching the game, stay on the main menu until shader preloading has finished before entering a match. Activision says, “Shader Preloading is an important part of the first boot process,” and warns that leaving the main menu can stop preloading and lead to performance issues.

Repair the game files in your launcher
Choose the repair option for the platform where Warzone is installed:
- Battle.net: use Scan and Repair.
- Steam: verify the integrity of the game files.
Let the launcher finish any scan, download, or repair, then try launching the game again.

Check for conflicting background software
Activision advises checking whether other applications or services interfere with the game. It names NZXT CAM, MSI Afterburner, and Razer Cortex as possible conflicts; their presence does not prove they caused your crash. Close or disable one suspected program or service at a time, then retest so you can identify whether a change matters.
If antivirus software is involved, Activision suggests adding the Warzone folder to its exceptions. If the problem continues, try a Windows clean boot to check for background-service conflicts. Restore protections and any disabled programs after testing, and do not leave antivirus protection off as a permanent workaround.

Send a crash report if it still happens
If the crash persists, submit Activision’s PC Crash Report. Include clear details about when the crash occurs and the troubleshooting changes you tried; the report helps Activision identify and investigate game crashes.
When the driver warning is the actual problem
A graphics-driver minimum warning is not the same thing as the 0x887A0005 crash. Intel’s separate Warzone 2.0 driver-warning article, last reviewed January 12, 2023, advises checking system requirements and updating with either the PC maker’s customized driver or Intel’s generic driver, then contacting Activision support if needed. It is context for that warning, not a remedy established for this error code.
