If aiming or weapon switching in Gears of War: E-Day feels wrong, start with Settings > Accessibility. The game documents several aim, stick-control, and weapon-toggle options there. Change one setting at a time so you can tell whether it addresses your specific problem; the available documentation does not establish a general launch-build defect or a guaranteed fix.
Adjust aim assist to match how you want to aim
Open Settings > Accessibility and find Aim Assist. The official Gears of War accessibility guide lists four choices. Try them individually in the same kind of encounter, rather than changing several controls at once.

The Target Lock Audio Cue is tied to Lock-on Aiming, so it depends on that option. If your concern is that aim feels too assisted, compare Off with the other options; if you want help acquiring or holding targets, compare Snap Aim with Lock-on Aiming.
Check stick layout and remapping if aiming feels awkward
If the stick used for aiming does not match your preference, look in Settings > Accessibility for Swap Sticks While Aiming and Single Stick Control. The official guide describes these as options for changing how stick input works and notes that Swap Sticks While Aiming and Single Stick Control work best together for its cover-and-aim use case.

- Try Swap Sticks While Aiming if the aiming stick assignment feels wrong.
- If you use a single-stick setup, try Single Stick Control with the suggested stick-swap combination.
- Use Controller Remap and the available invert-axis or swap-stick options to make the controls match your intended layout.
After each change, test the same movement and aiming sequence. If the result is still inconsistent, note which mapping and axis settings are active before changing anything else.
Fix repeated switching between primary weapons
If pressing the weapon-swap control does not cycle between your two primary weapons as you expect, check Toggle Primary Weapon in Settings > Accessibility. The official guide says this lets you press the same weapon-swap button to switch weapons and press it again to switch back—for example, D-pad left to switch and D-pad left again to switch back.

This setting changes the toggle behavior; it does not repair an unresponsive controller or establish that a software bug is present. Also inspect Controller Remap and confirm the weapon-swap input is assigned as you intend before treating unexpected selection as a game defect.
Do not assume beta aim-assist behavior is unchanged
The August 2026 beta FAQ said a settings note was missing to clarify that aim assist affected Campaign and Horde Siege but not Versus. That is beta-era information, not confirmation of the mode behavior in the current launch build. The sources available for this guide do not establish whether that limitation or wording remained unchanged after the beta. If you play Versus, check the current in-game settings and behavior rather than assuming an aim-assist option applies there.

When settings do not solve the problem
The controls above are documented options, not a guaranteed remedy. The reviewed official sources do not establish a launch-build-wide aiming or weapon-switching defect. If an input remains unresponsive or behaves inconsistently after you verify its assignment and settings, report a repeatable example through official Gears of War support. Xbox’s October 1, 2026 launch announcement also points players to the Xbox service-status page.
Include the following details in your report:
- Platform: Xbox Series X|S or Windows PC.
- Game mode and the input device you are using.
- Relevant Aim Assist, stick-control, remapping, and Toggle Primary Weapon settings.
- The button or aiming sequence that produces the issue, plus what you expected and what happened instead.
- Screenshots where they help show your settings or the problem.
Why E-Day controls may feel different from older Gears games
In a June 9, 2026 Xbox podcast, developer Matt Searcy discussed adding a jump button while rebuilding movement and retaining the series’ heavier feel. The conversation also described active-reload feedback as part of the aiming experience. This design context may help explain why familiar inputs or combat rhythm feel different, but it does not show that a particular aiming or switching problem is expected—or that any one setting will fix it.

Release timing and platform context
As of October 4, 2026, Gears of War: E-Day is in Premium early access, with worldwide launch scheduled for October 6, 2026 at 15:00 UTC. Xbox lists the game for Xbox Series X|S and Windows 10/11. These details matter when comparing behavior across versions or reporting an issue; do not treat beta notes as proof of a current release-build problem.
