Error 0x87E00013 (also shown as 0x87e00013) is usually a Windows 10 or Windows 11 Xbox app/Microsoft Store game-management failure. It is not a precisely decoded Microsoft error, but it commonly appears when Gaming Services, Store data, Xbox app state, game files, an installation drive, or an update transaction cannot be validated. Restart first, update Windows and Store components, repair the Xbox app, run wsreset.exe, and only then reinstall Gaming Services or the affected game.
The steps below are for a Windows PC. If the code appears on an Xbox console, stop before using PowerShell: these Gaming Services commands do not apply to console firmware.
Confirm where the error appears
Check whether the message is shown in the Xbox app for Windows, Microsoft Store, a game shortcut, or during a game installation or update. The commonly reported case involves Xbox PC Game Pass or Microsoft Store games on Windows 10/11, not an Xbox console.
- Only one game fails: prioritize that game’s package, files, and installation drive.
- Several Xbox or Store games fail: prioritize Windows, Store, account, and Gaming Services repairs.
- Microsoft Store itself will not open: fix Store cache and pending Windows updates before reinstalling a game.
Microsoft does not appear to publish a definitive public decoding for this hexadecimal code. Treat it as a package-management symptom rather than proof that one specific component is corrupted.

Quick, low-risk checks
- Close the game, Xbox app, and Microsoft Store.
- Restart Windows; signing out is not an equivalent test. Microsoft notes that a restart may be required before Store apps can install after updates (Microsoft Store guidance).
- Open Settings > Windows Update and choose Check for updates. Complete every requested restart.
- Open Microsoft Store, select Library, then choose Get updates or Check for updates. Menu names can vary between Windows 10 and Windows 11 (Microsoft’s update instructions).
- Confirm the destination drive is connected, visible in File Explorer, and has room for the update’s temporary files—not just the game’s final size.
Test another free Microsoft Store app or game. A system-wide failure points away from the individual title.
Check the Microsoft accounts
The Xbox app and Microsoft Store can be signed into different Microsoft accounts. Purchases, Game Pass entitlements, and family-account authorization may then fail to resolve. Sign out of both apps, restart Windows, and sign back in with the account that owns the game or subscription. This sign-out/sign-in sequence is reported in a Microsoft Q&A response for a related Store installation case, not as an official code-specific cure (Microsoft Q&A).
Repair, then reset the Xbox app
Repair is the safer app-level operation; Reset is more thorough and can remove app data or require another sign-in. These actions affect the Xbox app, not necessarily the installed game’s files.

- Open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps (Windows 10 may say Apps & features).
- Find Xbox, select its three-dot menu, and choose Advanced options.
- Select Repair, restart or retest the game, and observe the result.
- If it still fails, return to the same page and select Reset.
Note your account credentials and any custom Xbox installation settings before Reset. Microsoft’s general procedure is documented at Repair apps and programs in Windows.

Clear the Microsoft Store cache
- Press Windows + R.
- Type
wsreset.exeand select OK. - Wait. A blank Command Prompt window normally closes by itself, then Microsoft Store opens.
- Retry the Xbox app or game.
This clears Store cache data; it does not reinstall Windows and does not normally remove installed games. It will not repair damaged Gaming Services or incomplete game files. See Microsoft’s instructions at I can’t find or install an app from Microsoft Store and the Store error guidance.
Repair or reinstall Gaming Services
Try Settings first
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Search for Gaming Services.
- If Advanced options is available, choose Repair, then Reset if Repair does not help.
- Restart Windows and test again.
Use the reported PowerShell repair only if necessary
This procedure requires administrator access and temporarily removes Gaming Services, so Xbox games may not launch until it is installed again. Open Terminal (Admin) or PowerShell (Admin), run:
Get-AppxPackage *gamingservices* -allusers | Remove-AppxPackage -allusersRestart Windows. Then open the Gaming Services Store listing with:

Do not routinely delete Gaming Services registry keys. Commands targeting HKLM:SystemCurrentControlSetServicesGamingServices or GamingServicesNet alter the registry and are riskier than package removal. Microsoft’s Store support pages do not instruct ordinary users to delete those keys.
Repair or reinstall only the affected game
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps, select the game, and open Advanced options if offered.
- Choose Repair and test.
- If Repair is unavailable or ineffective, uninstall and reinstall the game through Xbox or Microsoft Store.
- Restart if the uninstall appears incomplete before starting the download.
Reinstallation can require the entire game download. Cloud saves may return only if that title has synchronized them; do not assume local saves, mods, screenshots, or configurations will survive. Back up local data where the game’s support documentation allows it. Reinstalling a game will not fix a broken Store, account, or Gaming Services installation.
Test the installation drive
If the Xbox app offers another destination, try a reliable internal NTFS drive with adequate free space. An alternate drive can expose a path, permission, or drive-health problem, but it is not a universal fix. For an external drive, check its cable, power, enclosure, connection stability, and whether it disconnects during updates. Do not manually move or edit protected WindowsApps folders. Broader Windows repairs
Use these only when Store apps fail broadly or Windows itself is unstable. They are general integrity tools, not verified fixes for this particular code. Open Command Prompt or Terminal as administrator:

sfc /scannowAllow SFC to finish, then run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealthRestart after completion. Do not interrupt SFC, and do not expect either command to rebuild one damaged game installation. These commands are shown in community troubleshooting coverage (video reference).
Recovery options only after identifying a likely system change
System Restore
Consider System Restore when the failure began immediately after a driver, Windows update, utility, or settings change and a restore point predates it. Applications and settings installed after that point may be affected. Microsoft explains the option at Windows recovery options.
Reset this PC
Reset is disproportionate when one game is affected. If platform-wide repairs fail, back up important files first. Keep my files preserves personal files but removes apps and resets settings; you will need to reinstall Xbox, games, and other software. Microsoft’s recovery guidance distinguishes Reset from a full Windows reinstall at the same URL above.
When to stop repeating fixes
- One title still fails after a clean reinstall: suspect a title-specific package or service problem rather than repeatedly resetting Windows.
- Multiple games still fail after Gaming Services and Store repair: collect the exact code, affected titles, Windows version, Xbox app version, account details, and what changed before the failure, then contact Microsoft/Xbox Support.
- The issue began after an update: investigate System Restore or Microsoft’s recovery guidance instead of deleting registry keys.
- Store or Xbox services appear unavailable: check Microsoft’s service status before starting another large download.

Does wsreset.exe delete installed games?
It clears Microsoft Store cache and normally does not remove installed games, but it cannot repair corrupted Gaming Services or incomplete game files.
Will reinstalling a Game Pass game preserve my saves?
Only if the individual game has synchronized saves or you backed up local data. Save, mod, and configuration behavior varies by title.
Do I need to reinstall Gaming Services every time this code appears?
No. Try restart, updates, Xbox app Repair/Reset, and Store cache reset first. Reinstall Gaming Services is a later step when those repairs fail.
