Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →If YouTube Live says your FFmpeg stream has an unsupported codec, first read the exact warning in Live Control Room, then match your video and audio codecs to the selected ingest protocol. For the common “incorrect stream format” or wrong-video-codec warning, try H.264 video with AAC audio over RTMP or RTMPS. Changing a container or filename alone will not convert the codecs inside the stream.
1. Identify which part of the stream YouTube is rejecting
YouTube checks the incoming stream and displays health messages in the Live Dashboard or Live Control Room. Read the full message before changing FFmpeg settings: an “incorrect stream format” warning may concern the container, audio codec, video codec, or video profile. A specific unsupported-audio or wrong-video-codec message points more directly to the stream component to change. YouTube’s live-stream error messages distinguish these problems.
- Wrong video codec: check the outgoing video codec and the selected ingest protocol.
- Unsupported audio codec: check the outgoing audio codec, not just the video settings.
- Incorrect stream format: verify both codecs, the container/format, and the video profile.
- Connection or stream-key error: verify the URL, key, and connection separately; these are not codec errors.
2. Set a conservative FFmpeg codec baseline
For a typical RTMP/RTMPS troubleshooting attempt, send H.264 video and AAC audio. YouTube’s error-specific guidance names H.264 and AAC for the incorrect-format condition; it also lists MP3 as an accepted audio codec in its audio-codec error guidance. H.264 plus AAC is the clearest baseline when the warning specifically calls out the video codec or audio codec. Check YouTube’s error-specific instructions against the message you see.
Make sure FFmpeg is actually encoding the incompatible component. If your command uses -c:v copy or -c:a copy, FFmpeg passes through the source stream for that component rather than converting it. Changing a filename or wrapping the same encoded streams in a different container does not turn HEVC into H.264 or change an audio codec into AAC. Re-encode only the component that needs conversion, unless the error or your settings indicate both must change.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
There is no single platform-independent FFmpeg command guaranteed to work: available encoders and syntax depend on the FFmpeg build and system. Confirm that your build includes the encoder you intend to use, then check FFmpeg’s output to ensure it is encoding the target video and audio codecs rather than copying them. YouTube’s ingest guidance establishes acceptable settings; it does not prescribe a particular FFmpeg command.
3. Match the rest of your RTMP or RTMPS settings
Codec compatibility is only one part of ingest. YouTube’s general encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video for RTMP/RTMPS, and AAC or MP3 audio. Its error-specific advice may still direct you to H.264 for a particular warning, so do not infer that every codec is accepted with every protocol, key, or error condition. YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted delivery. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate guidance.

- 4K HDMI Display: Enhance your visual experience with a hub capable of delivering 4K resolution at 30Hz in both mirror and extend modes. Please note that this hub is compatible with MacBook (macOS 12 and newer), Windows 10 and 11, ChromeOS, and laptops equipped with DP Alt Mode and Power Delivery. Note: This device is not compatible with Linux.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (5-in-1, 4K HDMI), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Rate control: use constant bitrate (CBR).
- Keyframes: set a 2-second keyframe interval; do not exceed 4 seconds.
- Frame rate: YouTube supports up to 60 fps.
- Video bitrate: select a value from YouTube’s table for your resolution, frame rate, and codec. There is no one bitrate that applies to every stream.
- Audio: AAC or MP3 is listed for RTMP/RTMPS; YouTube recommends 128 Kbps for stereo. 5.1 surround sound is supported only for AAC.
If you change resolution or frame rate while troubleshooting, revisit the bitrate value rather than assuming the previous setting is still appropriate. Use the row and codec column that match the actual output.
4. Consider HLS only when the codec or workflow calls for it
If you need to preserve a codec that is unsupported on your selected RTMP path, YouTube HLS ingest may be an option, provided your encoder supports YouTube’s HLS requirements. Its documented formats include H.264 or HEVC video and AAC, AC3, or EAC3 audio. HLS is not just an RTMP URL swap: it uses segments and a playlist, and YouTube notes that it has higher latency than continuous RTMP delivery. Review YouTube’s HLS ingestion requirements before selecting it.

- Double Up on Efficiency: The two USB-A 3.0 ports and a USB-C port support a fast 5Gbps data rate, significantly boosting your transfer speeds and improving productivity.
- Fast and Reliable 85W Charging: Offers high-capacity, speedy charging for laptops up to 85W, so you spend less time tethered to an outlet and more time being productive.
- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Use TS segments with a duration of 1–4 seconds.
- Maintain a rolling playlist with no more than five outstanding segments.
- Use HTTPS POST/PUT requests.
- Do not use byte ranges.
- Confirm your encoder supports YouTube HLS and select HLS in Live Control Room before changing the endpoint.
Prefer re-encoding to the H.264/AAC baseline when it satisfies the warning and your latency needs. Choose HLS only when its codec support and delivery requirements fit your encoder and use case.
5. Verify the stream URL, key, and connection
If the codec warning clears but YouTube still does not receive the stream, move on to connection checks instead of repeatedly changing codecs. Copy the current stream URL and key from Live Control Room’s stream settings. For RTMPS, reveal and copy the RTMPS URL there; an incorrect URL or an encoder without RTMPS support can prevent connection. YouTube’s RTMPS setup guidance explains the endpoint setup, and its stream settings guidance covers the URL and key.

- Check that FFmpeg is publishing to the current URL with the intended key.
- Read FFmpeg’s terminal output for connection, authentication, or encoder errors.
- Check YouTube’s stream health and the outbound internet connection if the encoder appears to publish but the stream does not arrive reliably.
- Keep the codec warning distinct from a bad key, endpoint, or network problem; each requires a different fix. See YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance.
6. Test the changed stream before relying on it
Restart FFmpeg after changing the output settings, then check Live Control Room’s preview and health indicator. Confirm the specific codec warning is gone and that both audio and video are present. YouTube recommends testing before a live stream; include movement and audio similar to what you plan to send, and watch for new health messages as the test runs. Use YouTube’s encoder settings and error guidance while checking the result.
Or let it run in the cloud
