Use the central drop from the flight-master level
- In Oribos, take the teleporter to the level where the flight master is located.
- Jump through the opening in the center to drop into the Maw.
Players in a Blizzard forum discussion describe this as the route for a character that already has access. The drop is not a way to unlock the zone: if it sends you back to a pad, check the character’s progression.
If the drop sends you back to a pad
Maw access can depend on the character’s Shadowlands quest state. Forum replies describe returning to the Maw later in the storyline, but differ on the exact point: one places it during the Maldraxxus story, while others mention later campaign and Covenant progression. Treat those reports as character-specific, not as one universal unlock checklist.
Check campaign and Covenant quests
- Review your active Shadowlands campaign quests and continue the storyline if it is still in progress.
- Check whether the character has chosen a Covenant and started its introduction. Community replies associate completing this progression with reopening Maw access.
At level 60, check Tal-Inara
If the character is level 60, speak to Tal-Inara in the Oribos Enclave and look for a Covenant-choice option. A Blizzard forum answer recommends checking there when access is missing. The option may depend on the character’s quest state.

Account for skips and previously completed campaigns
Characters with campaign skips or earlier Shadowlands progress may have different quests available. In a forum discussion spanning 2022–2024, a player reports a Horde route involving the quest “Shadowlands: A Chilling Summons.” That is a player report, not a verified current route for every character; the discussion does not establish an equivalent Alliance route or guarantee that the option is still available.
When access still does not reopen
If the central drop still redirects you after checking quests and Tal-Inara’s options, treat it as a character-specific quest-state issue. The available forum reports do not establish a current official checklist covering every campaign, skip, and patch state. Review the character’s active quests or consult Blizzard Support before assuming the route is bugged.

Why Oribos is part of the route
Blizzard’s Shadowlands announcement describes Oribos as the destination after escaping the Maw and says players return there later in the expansion. That establishes the story context, but it does not specify the current unlock steps for every character.
