Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallClear livestream audio starts with microphone placement, not expensive gear: put the mic close to your mouth, set levels so your loudest speech does not distort, keep voice intelligible over game audio, and record a test that you listen back to before going live. This guide uses OBS for the software checks; labels can vary by OBS release and platform.
1. Place the microphone to capture your voice, not the room
A microphone captures the room as well as your voice. Move it close enough that direct speech is prominent over reflections, point it toward your mouth, and avoid placing it beside reflective surfaces where practical. If your voice sounds distant or echoey, changing placement and reducing nearby reflections are more useful first steps than buying a different mic. Shure notes that a microphone cannot improve the acoustic environment in which it is placed: Shure’s microphone placement guidance.
- Keep a repeatable speaking distance and aim the mic toward your mouth.
- If plosive “p” sounds pop, angle the microphone slightly above or below your mouth and try an external pop filter. A pop filter addresses plosives and can help maintain consistent distance; it does not remove room echo or background noise.
- A stand or boom arm can help hold the mic in a consistent position, but it does not by itself make a noisy or reverberant room sound clean.
Shure’s microphone techniques guide covers placement and pop-filter use.
2. Set levels from the microphone through OBS
Check the complete audio path rather than relying on one fader. Begin at the microphone or other source, then check the operating-system input and application levels, and finally adjust OBS if needed. System and application mixers can affect the level OBS receives, so verify the result on your own device.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Choose the intended input. In OBS, open Settings → Audio and select the microphone you actually use. Speak and confirm that its meter moves in the Audio Mixer. If it does not, check the selected source device and the operating system’s input selection.
- Check the source level. Speak at your normal distance, then at the loudest level you expect during play. Reduce gain at the earliest point in the chain if the signal approaches clipping.
- Watch the OBS meter while speaking. OBS describes red as close to clipping; clipping means the signal is too high for accurate reproduction and can sound harsh or distorted. Lower the source gain or level and test again.
- Balance voice and game audio by listening. Speech should be clearly intelligible above gameplay, music, alerts, and calls. Do not assume equal-looking meter readings will sound equally loud to viewers: source content can have different perceived loudness.
OBS’s meter documentation identifies -20 dBFS as its Alignment Level and -9 dBFS as its Permitted Maximum Level. These are technical references in OBS documentation, not universal loudness targets for every voice, device, or streaming platform. Use them as context for the meter, not as a substitute for listening. See the OBS Audio Mixer Guide.
3. Test the sound viewers will receive
Meter movement confirms that audio is reaching OBS, but it cannot tell you by itself whether the stream sounds clear or balanced. Before a real broadcast, make a short recording or test stream with the normal mix of speech, gameplay, calls, music, and alerts. Listen back through the output path viewers are likely to use, then fix problems and record again. OBS’s Quick Start Guide covers making a test recording and checking the result.

4. Troubleshoot common livestream audio problems
| What you hear or see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No voice in OBS | The wrong input is selected, or the input is not reaching OBS. | In Settings → Audio, select the intended microphone and speak while watching its mixer meter. If the meter stays still, check the source device and operating-system input selection. |
| Voice sounds roomy or far away | The mic is too far from the speaker, aimed poorly, or picking up reflections. | Move it closer, point it toward your mouth, and reduce nearby reflections where practical. A microphone cannot remove room reverberation by itself. |
| Voice sounds distorted | The signal is clipping somewhere in the path. | Lower gain at the earliest source in the chain. Watch the meters while speaking at the loudest level you expect, then test a recording. |
| Voice is buried by gameplay or other audio | Other sources are too prominent, or the apparent meter balance does not match perceived loudness. | Adjust the source volumes until speech is intelligible over the mix, then judge by listening to a recording rather than meters alone. |
| “P” sounds pop | Air bursts are hitting the mic directly. | Angle the mic slightly above or below your mouth; use an external pop filter if needed. |
| A source works in a test but is missing or too loud in the stream | The captured device or an operating-system/application mixer level differs from the expected path. | Verify the selected input and output devices and check levels through the system, application, and OBS. Make another representative recording and listen back. |
5. Choose equipment for the problem you actually have
There is no evidence-based single microphone recommendation for every gaming streamer. Compare microphones by connection compatibility, pickup pattern and placement needs, how much room noise is present, and whether you need portability or hands-free positioning. A pop filter is for plosives; a stand or boom arm helps with consistent positioning. A more expensive microphone alone is not a fix for a noisy or reverberant room.

For a prerecorded YouTube channel stream, StreamNeo is a cloud service that plays uploaded videos or playlists continuously; it is separate from the microphone and OBS steps above, and it does not stream a live camera. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing needs to stay running on your home computer, the uploaded video streams as made up to 4K 60fps at one price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
