How to Get Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Android: What You Can Actually Play

You can’t officially download or install Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on an Android phone or tablet. Nintendo lists it as a Nintendo Switch game, not an Android app. The official Mario Kart game for Android is Mario Kart Tour—a separate mobile game. To play the full Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, you need a compatible Nintendo Switch-family console.

Is there an Android version of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe?

No. Nintendo’s official product page lists Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Nintendo Switch. Nintendo does not offer an official Android version or an Android installation path for it.

That doesn’t mean every video claiming to show the game on a phone is necessarily depicting a native Android release. Videos may show a different game, an unofficial technical setup, or a remote display. None of those makes an Android APK an official copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Play the official Mario Kart game on Android

If you want Mario Kart on an Android device, Nintendo’s official option is Mario Kart Tour. It is a separate mobile title, not a port of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The Google Play listing identifies Nintendo Co., Ltd. as the publisher, says a Nintendo Account is required, and notes that the app includes in-app purchases.

1. Open Google Play and search for Mario Kart Tour.
2. Open the listing and confirm the publisher is Nintendo Co., Ltd.
3. Install the app from Google Play and launch it.
4. Sign in with a Nintendo Account or create one when prompted.

You’ll get Mario Kart Tour, with mobile-focused controls and gameplay—not the Switch game’s full experience. Installing it is the straightforward choice if you want an official Mario Kart title on Android.

How to play the full Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Buy the Nintendo Switch edition from Nintendo or an authorized retailer, then play it on a compatible Switch-family console. For a digital copy, use the Nintendo eShop on the console to purchase and download the game. For a physical copy, insert its game card. Nintendo lists handheld, tabletop, and TV play modes for the game.

Choose the console to match how you want to play. A dockable Switch model supports TV play as well as handheld and tabletop modes. A Switch Lite is handheld-focused; Nintendo cautions that compatibility and play experience can differ and that additional accessories may be needed. Check the console and game details before buying if TV play or multiplayer with extra controllers matters to you.

Nintendo’s U.S. store page showed a digital price of $59.99 when researched; prices, promotions, bundles, and availability can change, and that figure is not a global price guarantee. The page lists single-system play for up to four players, local wireless play for up to eight, and online play for up to twelve, subject to the relevant setup and service requirements.

You can play offline without buying an online membership. For online play in supported cases, Nintendo Switch Online is required; Nintendo’s support page explains the membership requirement. Owning the game and subscribing to that service are separate things.

Why to avoid “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe APK” downloads

An APK advertised as the full Switch game is not an official Android release. Nintendo says legitimate smart-device apps are obtained through Google Play or Apple’s App Store, while legitimate console games come through the Nintendo eShop or Nintendo’s website. Third-party downloads advertised as “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Mobile” may be fake installers, malware, unauthorized copies, or unrelated games using Nintendo’s name. Be especially cautious if a download asks you to disable Android security protections or bundles files described as “keys,” “firmware,” or an “OBB.” Those are not part of an official Android installation process for this game.

Nintendo’s Switch User Agreement addresses restrictions on copying, modifying, reverse engineering, distributing software, and circumventing protections. The legal rules and consequences can depend on your country and circumstances, but an unofficial download is not made safe or authorized just because a site calls it an APK.

Will an emulator or Nintendo Switch Online let you play on Android?

Nintendo does not provide an Android emulator for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Unofficial emulation projects may claim to support some Switch software, but that is not an official Android release or a supported way to obtain the game. Acquiring or using game files, system files, keys, or modified tools can raise copyright, contract, circumvention, or safety concerns depending on the jurisdiction and circumstances. Avoid downloading unauthorized game files or bypass tools.

Nintendo Switch Online is for supported Switch online services; Nintendo does not present it as an Android streaming service for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. A third-party capture or remote-access setup, if encountered, is an unofficial workaround—not an Android port—and should not be confused with Nintendo-supported compatibility.
