You can’t catch Mewtwo in a current Scarlet and Violet event: its limited-time 7-star raid ended in 2023, and Mewtwo does not normally appear in Paldea. As of October 7, 2026, the code-free options are to transfer an eligible Mewtwo through Pokémon HOME or trade with another player. HOME compatibility depends on the specific Pokémon, so check its Connected Games information before trying to move it.
Is Mewtwo still available to catch in Scarlet and Violet?
No. Mewtwo appeared in a special 7-star black-crystal Tera Raid from September 1, 2023, at 00:00 UTC through September 17, 2023, at 23:59 UTC. That event has ended. The Pokémon Company’s “Face a Mighty Mewtwo!” announcement says, “Mewtwo cannot normally be encountered in Paldea.”

During the event, each save data could catch the special Mewtwo only once. The Pokémon had the Mightiest Mark and a Psychic Tera Type. Those details describe the expired raid, not a currently available encounter.
Get Mewtwo without a distribution code
Transfer an eligible Mewtwo through Pokémon HOME
If you already have a Mewtwo in another compatible game or Pokémon GO, Pokémon HOME may let you move it to Scarlet or Violet. Pokémon can only be moved into games where they appear, and eligibility can depend on the individual Pokémon. For a Mewtwo originating in Pokémon GO, follow the official Pokémon GO-to-HOME transfer guide. The GO-to-HOME step does not require a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership or a paid HOME Premium Plan. Some Pokémon sent from GO have additional withdrawal conditions, such as needing to be registered in the destination game’s Pokédex or obtained there already; verify Mewtwo’s eligibility in HOME.
Trade with another player
If you don’t have a Mewtwo to transfer, ask another player to trade one. Scarlet and Violet support Link Trade and Surprise Trade, but Surprise Trade is random and is not a dependable way to get a specific Pokémon. Nintendo’s trade instructions cover both options.

Online trading requires an internet connection and an active Nintendo Switch Online membership. If you and the other player are nearby, local wireless trading is an alternative that does not require online service.
Could the Mewtwo raid return?
The original event notice says Mewtwo may feature in a future event or become obtainable through another method, but it gives no date or guarantee. The official 2026 comeback notice reviewed here lists Dragonite for September 25–October 1, 2026, not Mewtwo. Check current Pokémon announcements and Poké Portal News for any new event rather than relying on old raid instructions.

To check for current in-game event news, open Poké Portal > Mystery Gift > Check Poké Portal News. That menu can update event information; it does not restore the expired Mewtwo raid by itself.

No. The password GETY0URMEW was part of a 2023 Mystery Gift promotion for Mew, not Mewtwo. Its redemption window ended September 18, 2023, so it is not a current way to obtain either Pokémon. Nintendo’s 2023 promotion announcement distinguishes the Mew distribution from the separate Mewtwo raid.
