To get Microcosm, finish The Final Shape campaign, complete Micah-10’s Convalescence quest chain, and then finish the Ascent, Dissent, and Iconoclasm missions in Cooperative Focus mode for Convalescence: Budding. Return to the Arbor of Light to claim the Exotic Trace Rifle.
What you need to do
- Complete The Final Shape campaign in the Pale Heart. Bungie’s Final Shape guide places the campaign there, and its new-player progression guide lists Convalescence: Budding among the expansion’s Exotic quests.
- Visit Micah-10 at Micah’s Conduit and complete the earlier Convalescence quests. Micah-10 gives the chain, and Budding is its final quest.
- Pick up Convalescence: Budding from Micah-10.
- Complete the Ascent, Dissent, and Iconoclasm campaign missions in Cooperative Focus mode.
- Go to the Arbor of Light and complete the quest turn-in to receive Microcosm.
Microcosm is a quest reward, not a random world drop. The quest’s progression and reward are listed in the Convalescence: Budding quest reference.
Which missions count for Microcosm?
Complete these three missions specifically in Cooperative Focus mode:
- Ascent
- Dissent
- Iconoclasm
Ordinary campaign clears do not satisfy this objective: the quest calls for the Cooperative Focus versions. You can organize a Fireteam if you want voice communication for the cooperative mechanics; the required activity remains the same.

- For the first time ever, Prismatic empowers you to combine Arc, Solar, Void, Stasis, and Strand into a custom subclass of your design. Light and Darkness have no quarrel within you, Guardian.
- The Final Shape looms—a nightmarish calcification of reality into the Witness's twisted design. Embark on a perilous journey into the heart of the Traveler, rally the Vanguard, and end the War of Light and Darkness.
Where to get Convalescence: Budding
After finishing the campaign and the preceding Convalescence quests, return to Micah-10 at Micah’s Conduit to accept Budding. The quest’s first objective is completing the three Cooperative Focus missions; its final step is returning to the Arbor of Light.

Bungie reported a progress issue on June 6, 2024, in which players with Convalescence: Budding could see a “quest progress needed” message when selecting Cooperative Focus missions. The report said the issue was under investigation and did not document a permanent fix. Confirm Budding is active and try again with a Fireteam; if the message continues, the report does not establish a guaranteed workaround, and behavior may depend on later patches.
