You can use Minecraft Realms without paying for your own ongoing subscription in two official ways: start a 30-day Realms trial if your account is eligible, or join a Realm after its owner invites you. The trial automatically renews unless canceled; invited members do not need their own Realms subscription.
Start the 30-day Realms trial
Minecraft offers a 30-day Realms trial to qualifying accounts. The offer may not appear for every account or platform. Minecraft’s purchase guidance says users who have never purchased Realms Plus may be eligible for a 30-day Realms Plus trial; its Realms information also describes trials for Bedrock Realms, Realms Plus, and Java Realms. Follow the offer shown in your game rather than assuming a particular trial is available.

- Open Minecraft and select Play.
- Select Create New World.
- Choose whether to add a 10-player Realm or a 2-player Realm.
- Review the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy. Agree only if you want to continue.
- If the account qualifies and the offer appears, select Start Trial.
The trial lasts 30 days and automatically renews unless you cancel. Before accepting, read the renewal date, price, and cancellation instructions displayed for your account. Cancel before renewal if you do not want to be charged; the exact checkout terms can vary by region and storefront.
Join a friend’s Realm without buying a subscription
Ask the Realm owner to invite you. The owner pays for the Realm subscription; invited members can join without purchasing their own Realms subscription. You need to use the same Minecraft edition as the Realm: Java players join Java Realms, and Bedrock players join Bedrock Realms. Java and Bedrock Realms do not cross-play with one another.

If you play on a console, its platform may separately require an online multiplayer subscription. That requirement is not the same as a Minecraft Realms subscription.
What “free Minecraft trial” means
The free trial of the core Minecraft game is different from a Realms trial. Minecraft’s game trial allows limited Survival play, but online multiplayer servers are disabled; LAN multiplayer is allowed. To host or use a persistent shared Realm, look specifically for the Realms trial offer or accept an invitation to someone else’s Realm.

What paid Realms plans cost after a trial
Minecraft’s US product listing gives the following recurring monthly prices and simultaneous-player limits. Prices and availability may differ by region or storefront, so check the in-game checkout before subscribing.

There is no permanent free personal Realm
A free Microsoft account does not include a free Realm: Realms is a subscription add-on, not part of the Minecraft game purchase. The documented no-cost options are a limited-time trial, when offered to an eligible account, or playing on a Realm paid for by its owner. Avoid unofficial “free Realms” generators or access offers; they are not the official routes described by Minecraft.
