On PS5, get Minecraft “mods” through the in-game Marketplace as Bedrock Add-Ons, then activate their resource or behavior packs in a world’s settings. Minecraft’s official PS5 announcement confirms the Store offers worlds, Add-Ons and skin packs; its support guide explains how to enable Add-Ons in new and existing worlds. The documented PS5 workflow does not cover installing arbitrary downloaded Java mods or external mod files.
What “mods” mean in Minecraft on PS5
Minecraft’s supported PS5 route is its in-game Marketplace, where content is offered as Bedrock Add-Ons. An Add-On can add custom blocks, items, mobs, recipes and other content to a Bedrock world. Depending on the content, you enable it as a resource pack, a behavior pack, or both.
Official Minecraft instructions describe acquiring Marketplace content and activating its packs in the game. They do not document a way to install arbitrary Java mods or external mod files directly on PS5. If you want to use supported custom content on the console, start in Minecraft’s Marketplace rather than downloading PC mod files.
Get and activate an Add-On in a new world
- Launch Minecraft and select Play.
- On the Worlds tab, choose Create new world.
- Choose Marketplace content or Create new world.
- Open Resource packs or Behavior packs.
- On the Available tab, select Activate for the Add-On.
- Select Create to make the world with the Add-On enabled.
Use the pack type that matches the Add-On. If its listing or details indicate it includes both resource and behavior packs, activate each as applicable.

Activate an Add-On in an existing world
- Select Play.
- Select the pencil/edit icon beside the world you want to change.
- Open Resource packs or Behavior packs.
- On the Available tab, select Activate for the Add-On.
- Select Play to open the world.
Find Marketplace content you already own
In Bedrock Edition, open Marketplace > My Library. Look under Owned or Marketplace Pass, then select the item to download it, create its world, or equip it. Skin and character customization items are managed in the Dressing Room rather than activated as world packs. See Minecraft Help’s guide to finding DLC packs.
Choose the right route for your situation
| Route | Where content comes from | Where it applies | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marketplace Add-On | Marketplace purchase or My Library | A local world where you activate the packs | Use the live game to access the Store; account and platform conditions may affect owned content. |
| Realm Add-On | Add-Ons activated by the Realm owner | The Realm world | Bedrock players connecting to the Realm automatically download and apply its active Add-Ons. |
| Minecraft Preview | Previously purchased resource and behavior packs | Preview’s global resources settings | The Store is not supported in PlayStation Preview, so acquire Marketplace content in live Minecraft. |
Play with Add-Ons on a Realm
A Realm owner can activate Add-Ons in the Realm’s world settings. Minecraft Help says players connecting from any Bedrock Edition device automatically download and apply Add-Ons activated on that Realm. This lets friends play in the Realm’s Add-On world without each player separately installing external mod files on a PS5. For the owner’s steps, see Minecraft Help: How to Add an Add-On to a Minecraft World.

Marketplace accounts and purchases on PlayStation
Linking a Microsoft account to your PlayStation Network account can make non-exclusive Marketplace content you bought with that Microsoft account on another game platform available on PlayStation. For new purchases on PlayStation, Minecraft Help directs players to use Minecraft Tokens in the PlayStation Minecraft Store. Availability depends on the account and content; see Minecraft Help’s DLC guidance and its Microsoft-account linking instructions.

Minecraft Preview is available on PS5 to people who own the digital game. The Store is not supported in PlayStation Preview. If you have already purchased resource or behavior packs, Minecraft says they can be enabled in Preview under Settings > Global Resources. Acquire Marketplace content in the live version of Minecraft, not Preview. Details are in Minecraft Help’s Minecraft Preview FAQ.
