Start by following the opening prompts and learning the brush: paint restores parts of the world, while thinner reshapes the environment and can reveal secrets. The Nintendo Switch 2 edition also adds higher-resolution visuals, an improved framerate, Joy-Con 2 mouse-style controls, and the Costume Pack DLC. You can experiment with the brush and movement options as the game introduces them; there is no need to guess at button assignments before you begin.
What to expect from the Switch 2 edition
THQ Nordic announced the Nintendo Switch 2 edition as available on October 6, 2026. The publisher lists higher-resolution visuals, an improved framerate, mouse-style controls using Joy-Con 2, and the Costume Pack DLC among its features. These are edition features, not measured performance figures; the announcement does not quantify resolution or frame rate. See THQ Nordic’s release announcement.
This is separate from the original Nintendo Switch release announced in 2024. If you are choosing between versions, compare the platform-specific features and check the price and availability for your region rather than assuming a listing for one Switch edition applies to the other. The official game site links to retailer options.

Learn the brush: paint and thinner
Paint restores
The publisher describes paint as a way to restore the world. As you play, pay attention to the prompts and notice how using paint changes the environment around Mickey.
Thinner reshapes and reveals
Thinner can reshape the environment and uncover secrets. Treat it as another way to interact with the world, not as a universally better or worse choice than paint. The available official descriptions do not specify the consequences of particular choices, so use the in-game guidance and experiment where it feels appropriate.

Try movement options as they appear
THQ Nordic also lists dash, ground pound, and sprint as gameplay actions. Follow the prompts when the game introduces them and practise each in context rather than treating them as required opening moves. Use the on-screen instructions for exact button assignments; these can be more reliable than a generic control guide that may not match your setup.
