You can start F1 25 on PS5 with the DualSense you already own. Check the in-game control reminders and settings, then spend a few short sessions in Practice Mode learning one circuit before moving into a longer career or online race. A wheel is optional, and there is no single official beginner setting that suits every player.
1. Confirm you have the PS5 version
F1 25 is the official game of the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship, and the PlayStation Store lists a PS5 version. Check your local PlayStation Store for the current edition and offer details; availability and season content can vary over time and by region. PlayStation Store: F1 25
EA says an EA account, an internet connection, acceptance of its User Agreement and Privacy & Cookie Policy, and game updates are required for play. EA: Buy F1 25
2. Start with the DualSense
The standard DualSense controller is supported, so you do not need to buy a wheel to begin. The PS5 listing also identifies DualSense haptic feedback and adaptive triggers as supported features. If you later decide you want a wheel, EA’s supported PS5 input list includes compatible models such as Logitech G29 and G923, HORI Racing Wheel Apex, and supported Fanatec devices. Compatibility does not guarantee better results, and a wheel is not a prerequisite. EA: supported wheels and devices

3. Check the controls and make the game comfortable
Before driving, look over the control reminders in-game so you can find the actions you need without relying on a guessed button map. If the default layout does not suit you, the PlayStation listing says advanced controller remapping is available. EA also provides a PlayStation controls hub for F1 25. EA: F1 25 controls
Review the game’s settings and accessibility options as well. EA says Steering Assist is available and turns on Braking Assist, Anti-Lock Brakes, and Traction Control. That is one documented option, not a universal recommended setup. A practical way to find your comfort level is to begin with assistance where needed, then reduce one assist at a time after you can complete laps consistently. 4. Learn a circuit in Practice Mode
Practice Mode is a useful first stop before committing to a full race or career. Choose one circuit and drive short, repeatable laps. Focus on staying on track and recognizing where you need to slow down and turn; consistency is more useful at first than trying to set a fast lap. Use the control reminders when you need them, and adjust an assist or control setting if it is getting in the way of learning.

5. Choose a mode that matches what you want to do
