To get a genuinely stretched image in VALORANT, choose a supported lower 4:3 resolution in the game, then set the graphics scaling mode to fill the laptop panel. The in-game resolution and the GPU or display’s scaling mode are separate controls: without a fill setting, the image may keep its proportions and show black bars.
What “true stretched” means
A stretched resolution expands a lower-resolution image to fill the panel, changing its proportions. A 4:3 resolution selected in VALORANT does not guarantee that result by itself; scaling is handled by the graphics or display path. NVIDIA names its fill option “Full-screen,” while AMD calls its equivalent “Full panel.”
Set a supported 4:3 resolution in VALORANT
- Open VALORANT’s video or display settings and select a supported 4:3 resolution.
- Try a mode appropriate for your panel and preference. Riot lists examples including 640×480, 800×600, 960×720, 1024×768, 1280×960, 1400×1050, 1440×1080, 1600×1200, 1856×1392, 1920×1440, and 2048×1536. Riot does not present this list as exhaustive. Riot’s resolution and aspect-ratio guidance also notes that unsupported modes, particularly extra-wide ones, may appear with black bars or be cropped to a supported resolution.
Set scaling to fill the laptop panel
If the image has black bars, inspect the scaling controls for the GPU or display path that drives the panel. Use the vendor’s fill mode if it is available:
- NVIDIA: In NVIDIA Control Panel, open the display-resolution scaling controls and select Full-screen to stretch the image to fill. Aspect ratio preserves proportions and may leave borders; No scaling centers the smaller image. See NVIDIA’s scaling-mode descriptions.
- AMD: In AMD Software, use Full panel scaling to expand a non-native image to fill the display. See AMD’s GPU scaling guidance.
Menu names and available options can vary with the driver, laptop, and display connection. Use the laptop maker’s supported controls and current graphics drivers rather than assuming every model exposes the same settings.

If the laptop still shows black bars
Check which GPU drives the internal display
Some laptops use integrated graphics to drive the built-in panel even when a discrete GPU renders the game. In that arrangement, NVIDIA Control Panel may not show display or scaling controls for the internal screen. Verify the display path and check the documentation for your exact laptop model; the discrete GPU’s presence does not prove it controls panel scaling.
Check Intel scaling controls
Intel Graphics Command Center may not show scaling options in some resolution configurations. Intel says the options were removed when the recommended screen resolution is selected because the earlier controls did not make valid display changes. See Intel’s explanation of missing scaling options.

Distinguish the built-in panel from an external display
Scaling behavior can differ between the laptop panel and an external monitor because the display connection may follow a different graphics path. Community reports describe such differences, but they do not establish that connecting an external display will fix a particular laptop. Check the model’s display-routing documentation before treating an external monitor as a workaround.

- The game is using the 4:3 resolution you selected, rather than reverting to a supported mode with bars or cropping.
- The image fills the panel edge to edge, which indicates a fill-style scaling mode; black bars mean the image is not being stretched across the full panel.
- The scaling control applies to the laptop’s internal panel, not only to an external display.
There is no universal laptop recipe: the result depends on the mode VALORANT accepts, the available scaling control, and which graphics device drives the panel. Riot and the GPU vendors document supported modes and scaling behavior, but those documents do not certify one procedure for every laptop, driver, panel, and game version.
