You cannot force Roblox to accept characters that your account or its text filters do not support. Roblox currently offers Japanese-character display names to some accounts through a beta feature, but says the beta is not available to everyone. For other unsupported symbols, use an accepted name or wait for Roblox to expand support. Do not use lookalike letters, punctuation, or other substitutions to evade moderation; Roblox expressly prohibits that behavior.
Unsupported characters and filtered names are different
Roblox continuously filters platform text, including display names. A name can therefore fail for two separate reasons:

Roblox’s help page does not promise support for arbitrary Unicode, decorative alphabets, emoji, or lookalike glyphs. Japanese support is specifically described as “currently in beta and not available to all users” by Roblox Support (guidance checked September 27, 2026).
How to try an officially supported display name
- Sign in to Roblox.
- Open Account Settings. On the website, select the gear icon; in the mobile app, open More (the three-dot menu).
- Select Account Info.
- Choose Change Display Name. Some accounts may show the field as Name.
- Enter the name and save it.
If Japanese characters are enabled for your account, the beta may allow them. If the field rejects the entry or the result is replaced with your username, select a different compliant name. Roblox says display-name changes are free but limited to once every seven days, so an experiment can prevent another change until that interval ends.

What not to do
Do not disguise prohibited text
Replacing letters with similar-looking symbols, inserting punctuation, or using other special-character tricks does not create legitimate support. Roblox Community Standards prohibit “Using misspellings, special characters, or other methods to evade detection of profanity.” Read the full policy at Roblox Community Standards.
Do not confuse input tools with Roblox support
A Unicode keyboard, copy-and-paste site, or name generator can insert characters into a text field, but cannot grant your account access to an unsupported character set or bypass Roblox moderation. There is no documented setting, paid service, or account trick that overrides those checks.

Display name versus username
A display name is the customizable label shown on your profile and in experiences, and different players can share the same display name. A username is your unique account identifier and follows a separate change process. Username instructions do not unlock unsupported display-name characters; see Roblox’s username support page for that distinct feature.

- Read the displayed moderation message, if one appears.
- Choose a plainly compliant alternative without disguised profanity or prohibited wording.
- Wait for the seven-day change interval if you have already changed the display name.
- Check Roblox Support for future announcements about additional character sets; the public help page does not state which accounts receive the beta or when it will expand.
A policy-compliant name can still be unavailable if your account lacks the relevant beta access. In that case, only an accepted supported name or an official Roblox rollout can resolve the limitation.
