To get Voice Chat on Roblox, you must be at least 13, complete Roblox’s current age check using Facial Age Estimation or government-issued ID verification, live in a supported region, and join an experience that has Voice Chat enabled. Phone verification alone no longer unlocks Voice Chat under Roblox’s current instructions.
After you qualify, enable Voice Chat from a supported Roblox experience, grant microphone permission on your phone or computer, and use the in-game microphone control to talk or mute yourself.
Before you start: Roblox Voice Chat requirements
Roblox Voice Chat is not a universal switch that works in every account and every experience. Confirm these requirements first:
- You are 13 or older. Accounts under 13 cannot use Voice Chat.
- You completed an age check. Roblox currently lists Facial Age Estimation and government-issued-ID verification as the relevant methods. ID verification is available only to users aged 13 and older. Facial Age Estimation may assign an age group and can require parental approval in some regions. See Roblox’s current explanation of age checks.
- Your region supports the feature. Availability can vary by country and region, even after an age check.
- The experience supports Voice Chat. Roblox creators choose whether to integrate the feature, so it is not available in every game. Check the experience description before joining.
- Your device and app meet Roblox’s requirements. The app must be updated, and Roblox must have permission to use your microphone.
Outdated advice warning: Older guides often say that verifying a phone number enables Roblox Voice Chat. Roblox’s current turn-on instructions specifically state that phone verification alone is not a valid access method after the recent updates.

How to get Voice Chat on mobile
These steps apply to iPhone, iPad, and Android phones or tablets. Menu names and the position of controls can change as Roblox updates its app, so use the current control that Roblox displays rather than relying on an old screenshot.
- Update Roblox. Install the latest version from the Apple App Store or Google Play, then sign in to the account that has completed the age check.
- Confirm your eligibility. The account must be 13 or older and must have completed Facial Age Estimation or ID verification. If the account is not eligible, the Voice Chat control may not appear.
- Join a Voice Chat-enabled experience. Look at the experience description for an indication that Voice Chat is supported. A game that does not integrate Voice Chat will not show the feature even when your account is eligible.
- Open the in-experience controls. Open Roblox’s experience settings and look for the Voice Chat control. If Roblox displays a headphone or join-voice control, you can use that instead.
- Allow microphone access. When iOS, iPadOS, or Android asks for permission, choose the option that allows Roblox to use the microphone. If you previously denied access, open your device’s app-permission or privacy settings, select Roblox, and turn microphone access on.
- Use the microphone icon. In the experience, tap the microphone control to mute or unmute. A red slash indicates that your microphone is muted; the microphone animation changes when Roblox detects speech.
Mobile device requirements
Roblox’s published mobile requirements currently list iOS/iPadOS 14 or later for Apple mobile devices and Android 8.0 or later for Android devices. Android devices also require at least OpenGL ES 3.0. These are app requirements, not a promise that every older phone or tablet will deliver clear, reliable voice audio. How to get Voice Chat on PC
Roblox Voice Chat works through the supported Roblox desktop application on Windows and macOS. Linux is not supported by Roblox.

- Update or install Roblox. Open the Roblox desktop app and sign in to the eligible account.
- Complete the age check if necessary. You must be 13 or older and have completed Facial Age Estimation or ID verification.
- Launch a supported experience. Check the experience description first, because Voice Chat is controlled by the experience creator.
- Join Voice Chat. Open the Roblox in-experience settings and select the Voice Chat option, or select the headphone/join-voice control if it appears.
- Choose the correct microphone. In Windows or macOS sound settings, select the microphone you actually want Roblox to use. Check that the headset’s physical mute switch and the operating system’s mute control are both off.
- Grant permission. When Windows or macOS asks whether Roblox can use the microphone, allow access. If permission was denied earlier, change it in the operating system’s privacy settings and restart Roblox.
- Mute or unmute yourself. Use the in-game microphone icon. You can also disconnect from Voice Chat through the experience’s available settings.
Supported PC operating systems
Roblox currently lists Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11 and macOS 10.13 High Sierra or later for computers. Roblox does not support Linux. Roblox lists Chrome, Firefox, and Microsoft Edge as supported Windows browsers, and Chrome, Firefox, and Safari as supported Mac browsers. Check Roblox’s computer hardware and operating-system requirements if the app or website is not working as expected.

What to do if the Voice Chat option is missing
Work through this checklist in order. The missing control is usually caused by eligibility, regional availability, the current experience, or an account setting—not by a missing headset.
- Check the account age. The account must be at least 13. Do not try to bypass Roblox’s age requirements.
- Check the age-check method. Confirm that Facial Age Estimation or ID verification was completed successfully. Phone verification by itself is not enough under Roblox’s current policy.
- Check the region. Roblox publishes a country list for Voice Chat availability. If the feature is unavailable in your region, an otherwise eligible account may still not receive access. Roblox’s Voice FAQ contains the current regional guidance.
- Try another experience. Voice Chat must be integrated by the experience creator. If the control is absent in one game, test an experience whose description explicitly indicates Voice Chat support.
- Update Roblox. Install the current mobile app or desktop application, then sign out and back in if the control still does not appear.
- Review account controls. Privacy, communication, parental, age-group, and regional settings can affect feature access. Roblox says access depends on age group, account settings, and region.
- Restart Roblox after changes. This is especially important after completing an age check or changing microphone permissions.

- Check that the microphone icon in Roblox is not muted. A red slash means muted.
- Check the physical mute switch and volume controls on your headset or microphone.
- In Windows or macOS sound settings, select the intended input device and confirm that its input level responds when you speak.
- On iPhone, iPad, or Android, confirm that Roblox has microphone permission in the device’s privacy or app-permission settings.
- Close other apps that may be using the microphone, such as conferencing, recording, or streaming software.
- Leave and rejoin the experience, then restart Roblox after changing permissions.
- If the device itself does not detect the microphone, troubleshoot the operating system, cable, Bluetooth connection, adapter, or hardware before treating it as a Roblox problem.
A gaming headset with microphone is optional, not an eligibility requirement. It can be useful if your built-in phone, tablet, laptop, or desktop microphone is noisy, unreliable, or difficult to position. Match the headset connector to your device: a phone or tablet may need a compatible wired adapter, while a PC headset may use USB, a combined headset jack, or another supported connection.
Privacy, moderation, and safety
Roblox Voice Chat is not a private, unmoderated conversation channel. Roblox says voice interactions are subject to recording and moderation systems. Voice data may be used for safety and moderation, including reviewing abuse reports and improving automated safety systems. Depending on your settings, Roblox may also use voice data for product improvements such as speech-to-text transcription.
Roblox says voice data is not used for advertising or marketing. You can manage the product-improvement setting through Settings > Privacy & content maturity > Communication > Voice data usage. The exact labels may change with Roblox updates, so look for the Voice data usage control under the Communication settings if the path differs.
If another player is abusive, you can mute them, block them, or report the behavior from within the experience. Roblox’s reporting flow allows you to identify Voice Chat as the violation type. Do not share passwords, home addresses, school details, real-time locations, or other sensitive information in voice conversations.

Roblox says Voice Chat interactions are subject to recording and moderation systems. Voice data may be used for safety, abuse-report review, automated safety improvements, and—depending on privacy settings—product improvements such as speech-to-text transcription.
