To remove a title from your Steam Library view, hide it: in the desktop client, open Library, right-click the title, then choose Manage > Hide this game. That does not uninstall it or remove it from your account. For disk space, uninstall it; to limit what other Steam users can see, mark it private; to give up access, submit a license-removal request through Steam Support.
Steam uses separate controls for hiding a title, uninstalling its files, limiting its visibility to other people, and removing its license. Choose the action that matches your goal:

The paths below use the English-language Steam desktop client. Translated clients and future interface changes may use different labels or placement.

- Open Library in the Steam desktop client.
- Right-click the game or software title.
- Select Manage, then Hide this game.
Hiding is an organizational choice: it removes the title from the ordinary Library view, not from your account. It does not delete the installed files and is not the same as making the title private to other users.

Find and unhide a title
- In the desktop client, open the top menu’s View option.
- Select Hidden Games.
- Right-click the title you want back.
- Choose Manage > Remove from Hidden.
The title should return to your regular Library view. Steam documents this recovery path in its Hidden Games and missing-game help.
Uninstall a title without removing it from your account
- Open Library and right-click the title.
- Select Manage > Uninstall.
- Confirm the prompt.
Uninstalling removes the local installation, but it does not by itself revoke account ownership. If you still have access, you can generally install the title again from your Library. The title may remain listed there, including if you have hidden it.

Uninstalling is not a guaranteed way to erase saves or every related file. Save data may be stored locally, synchronized through Steam Cloud, or managed by the game or a separate launcher. Settings, mods, configuration files, and third-party launcher data can also remain. If you want a clean removal, check the game’s own save and mod guidance before deleting files; do not assume Steam Cloud copies will be erased when you remove local files.
Hide ownership and activity from other Steam users
Use Mark as Private if you want to keep a title in your own Library but limit what other Steam users can see. Steam distinguishes private games from hidden games: a private title remains visible to its owner. Steam says private status can conceal ownership, playtime, current status, recent activity, and certain profile or game-ownership displays. See Steam’s explanation of private games.

In the desktop client, right-click the title and look under Manage for Mark as Private. Depending on the client version, Steam may also expose the control from the game’s details or settings. Steam says the client must be online and connected for the private-game option. If you do not see it, connect to Steam and check the title’s available controls.
Private status is not complete anonymity in every situation. Steam notes that your Steam ID may still be visible to players on the same multiplayer server, and an invited friend may see your in-game status while joining a private game. Marking a title private also does not uninstall it or remove your license.

Request permanent removal from your Steam account
If you want to give up access rather than merely hide or uninstall a title, use Steam Support while signed in to the account that owns it. Start at Steam Support’s game and purchase help, choose the relevant title or account-library help option, and look for the request to permanently remove the game from the account. Review the confirmation carefully before submitting. Steam’s personalized support choices can depend on the account and the product, so not every title will necessarily show the same path or wording.

This is a license-removal request, not an uninstall command or refund request. Do not assume it erases purchase history, achievements, saves, Workshop content, or every linked entitlement. Access to a base game or associated content may be affected; rely on the specific confirmation Steam presents. If your goal is a refund, use Steam’s refund process instead. If only DLC is unwanted, check its separate options and the consequences for the base game before requesting removal. Do not assume a removed license can be restored automatically.
Games, DLC, demos, tools, and non-Steam shortcuts
- DLC: It may be managed through the base game’s Properties > DLC area rather than as a standalone Library item. Check the specific title and support options before requesting license removal.
- Soundtracks: These may appear as separate Library entries or be supplied as downloadable content, so the available controls can differ.
- Demos and free titles: You can hide or uninstall entries where those controls are available, but permanent-removal choices may vary by entitlement.
- Tools and software: They may have their own install locations, dependencies, or uninstall behavior. Removing a Steam license does not necessarily remove related files or accounts elsewhere.
- Third-party launchers: Steam actions do not necessarily delete a publisher account, launcher, registration, or cloud data. Steam distinguishes third-party game support from Steam account and purchase support; see its support guidance.
- Non-Steam shortcuts: These are Library entries you added, not Steam licenses. Manage or delete the shortcut in the client rather than asking Steam Support to remove a license.
If a game has disappeared from your Library
Before buying it again or requesting account changes, check these possibilities:
- Confirm the account. Make sure you are signed in to the Steam account that owns the title.
- Clear Library filters and search. A filter or search term can hide a title from the current list.
- Check Hidden Games. Open View > Hidden Games in the desktop client.
- Check how you got access. A title accessed through Steam Families or Family Sharing may not be a license you own, and access can change with the sharing arrangement.
- Review purchase status. Check purchase history and the receipt email; a purchase may still be pending or may have been made on another account.
- Sign out and back in. If the account and filters are correct, signing in again can help refresh the client.
- Separate ownership from installation. A title may be absent from the installed list but still be in your account Library. If it is installed in another Steam Library folder, that is a local installation location issue, not proof that the license is gone.
Steam’s missing-game guidance also identifies the wrong account, Library filters, hidden titles, pending purchases, and family sharing as possible causes.
