Yes—but not by keeping one Cloud Run service request open indefinitely. A service request can last at most 60 minutes, and a Cloud Run job task is finite too. For an encoder intended to run continuously, start with a Cloud Run worker pool or a continuously running instance, then build in process supervision and YouTube reconnect/restart handling. Neither a warm minimum instance nor a long-running process is an uptime guarantee.
Choose the Cloud Run resource for the job
Cloud Run offers different resource types for request handling, finite tasks, and background work. For a continuous stream, the key distinction is whether the resource is designed around an HTTP request, a task that completes, or background processing.

A scheduler can relaunch finite jobs, but that approach needs deliberate handling for handoff, duplicate starts, retries, and interruptions to the YouTube ingest. It is not equivalent to one continuously running stream process.
Plan the stream before deploying
Decide what the encoder will stream
Establish whether the media is generated inside the container, relayed from an upstream source, or captured from physical production equipment. This decision affects resource sizing and whether capture hardware is needed. A Cloud Run deployment does not itself provide a camera or capture setup.

Choose a long-running pattern
For background encoding, evaluate a worker pool or continuously running instance first. If you use a Cloud Run service, keep it in the control-plane role: an HTTP request cannot remain open for the life of a 24/7 stream. Make the encoder restartable
Package the encoder or relay in a container and arrange for its process to be supervised. Keep the YouTube stream key in a secret store or secret-backed configuration. Do not put it in source code, container image layers, logs, or a public command example. Your controller or supervisor should be able to determine whether the encoder is alive and start it again after an exit.

Configure YouTube and the encoder
- Create an encoder-based live stream in YouTube. Follow YouTube’s current instructions for creating a live stream with an encoder. Configure the event and obtain its stream key through YouTube Studio.
- Protect and inject the stream key. Store it as a secret and supply it to the running workload through secret-backed configuration. Restrict access to the workload that needs it; never bake the key into an image or expose it in logs.
- Match the encoder output to YouTube’s current guidance. Check YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions for the format you intend to send. Confirm the current ingest and encoding requirements there rather than relying on a bitrate, resolution, frame rate, keyframe interval, or protocol copied from an older tutorial.
- Test a private or otherwise controlled stream before relying on it. Confirm that YouTube receives the feed, that audio and video remain synchronized, and that the workload can reconnect after a deliberate process restart. Use the configuration shown in YouTube’s current instructions for your encoder; do not treat a successful container start as proof that the ingest is working.
Build recovery around failure, not just startup
A continuous stream needs to recover from process exit and interrupted ingest. Add health monitoring and alerts for encoder termination, failed YouTube ingest, and prolonged loss of outbound traffic. Verify that the supervisor can restart the process and that the encoder can reconnect to the live event. If you split a long stream into finite jobs, also test the job handoff and prevent overlapping workers from sending duplicate feeds.
Cloud Run minimum instances can keep a configured baseline warm, and Google advises setting at least one when a service does background work while it is not handling requests. However, minimum instances are best effort and can be restarted at any time. Treat that setting as a scaling and billing choice—not durable process storage or an availability contract. Check copyright and channel policy before looping video
Only stream material you have the rights to use. A video being publicly available does not establish permission to rebroadcast it, and a stream key does not grant rights to the media. Review YouTube’s current live-stream and monetization rules for your channel and content; do not assume that a technically successful, repetitive stream will qualify for monetization. The encoder setup and settings references above explain how to send a feed, not whether your content is permitted or eligible for monetization.
Estimate the cost from your actual configuration
There is no single reliable monthly price for this workload without a deployment specification. Estimate it using the current Cloud Run pricing for the selected resource and region, CPU and memory, billing mode, always-on runtime, outbound network egress, and resilience design. Recalculate when those inputs or Google Cloud pricing change.

A GPU is not presented as necessary for an ordinary software encoder. If you do choose GPU support, Google requires instance-based billing and bills the GPU over the instance lifecycle. Google Cloud: GPU support

- The service returns 504 after a while: the request exceeded its configured timeout. Keep the service as a controller and run the encoder using a background-work pattern instead of holding one HTTP request open. A timed-out connection does not necessarily stop the container’s work, so check for orphaned encoder processes too.
- A job stops before the stream is meant to end: job tasks have a finite timeout, even when configured for the maximum. Use bounded segments with deliberate relaunch and handoff logic, or evaluate a worker pool or continuously running instance.
- The workload was warm, but the stream stopped: minimum instances can be restarted. Check process-exit and ingest alerts, then verify that supervision restarts the encoder and reconnects it to YouTube.
- The container is running, but YouTube is not receiving a stream: check the key’s secret injection, the live event configuration, encoder output, and the current YouTube ingest/settings guidance. Do not expose the key while debugging.
- Two feeds start after a retry or relaunch: make job handoff and retries safe against duplicate starts. Ensure the previous worker has exited or is otherwise prevented from continuing before a replacement sends to the same event.
- The bill is higher than expected: check the actual runtime, selected region, CPU/memory, billing mode, network egress, and any resilience resources against the estimate. Include GPU lifecycle billing if applicable.
