Install the card
- Locate the storage expansion slot on the back of your Xbox Series X|S console.
- Insert the Xbox Series X|S storage expansion card into that dedicated slot.
- Allow the console to format and configure the card automatically. The manufacturer’s instructions do not call for a separate manual formatting step.
Choose the right kind of storage
Use a storage expansion card designed for Xbox Series X|S; a generic external USB drive is not interchangeable for every game. SanDisk’s Xbox Series X|S external-drive guidance says Series X|S-optimized games cannot be played from external USB storage. The available guidance does not establish all rules for storing or transferring other games.
Capacities and storage management
Seagate’s product listing describes its Xbox Series X|S storage expansion card as designed for the console and supporting Xbox Velocity Architecture. It lists 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB options; check the exact model and regional listing before choosing, since availability and price are not established here. See Seagate’s product listing.
For choices such as managing storage or selecting where content is stored, consult Xbox Support’s storage-management guide. The current menu labels and steps are not confirmed here, so follow the instructions shown for your console rather than relying on an assumed menu path.
