You can install community mods for Crimson Desert using third-party guides and managers, but there is no publisher-confirmed modding workflow in the sources available here. To reduce risk, update the game, back up your saves, start with clean game files, and follow the current instructions for the specific mod and manager you choose. These are community procedures, not a workflow endorsed by Pearl Abyss.
Before installing a mod
- Update the game. Pearl Abyss support recommends keeping the game updated. Mod compatibility can depend on the game version, so check the mod page for its supported version before installing it.
- Back up your saves. The community modding guide recommends making a backup first. Its listed Windows locations are
C:Users%USERNAME%AppDataLocalPearl AbyssCDsaveandC:Users%USERNAME%AppDataLocalCrimsonDesertSavedSaveGames. These are locations to check, not guaranteed paths for every installation or version; consult the guide’s current revision and confirm that the copied files are your saves. - Start with clean game files. The community guide advises ensuring the game files are unmodified before first using the selected manager. If you have already installed mods or changed files, use the manager’s current restore instructions or verify the files through Steam before proceeding.
- Read the current instructions for both the mod and manager. Tool recommendations and supported formats can change. Confirm compatibility with your game version, required dependencies, installation method, and how to disable or restore the mod.
Choose a manager based on the mod’s instructions
Community resources describe more than one manager and workflow, including a Nexus Mods guide with changing tool recommendations and a separate CDUMM manager page. They should not be treated as interchangeable or as a single universal installation method. Use the manager named by the specific mod’s current instructions when that page documents a compatible path.
Before choosing, compare the current documentation for supported mod formats, compatibility with your game version, backup and restore behavior, and the installation route documented by the mod author. The available guidance does not establish one manager as universally safest or best.
Install and use a mod
- Open the mod’s current page. Check its required game version, dependencies, supported format, and any manager it requires or recommends. Do not assume instructions from another mod apply.
- Open the selected manager’s current guide. Follow its own directions for adding the mod and applying it. Confirm where it stores or backs up files before making changes.
- Launch the game and check the result. If the game does not launch or behaves unexpectedly, use the manager’s documented disable or restore procedure rather than layering on more changes.
- Keep the original backup until you are satisfied. Use the manager’s documented process to disable or remove the mod and restore the clean files if needed. Keep your save backup separate from any files the manager changes.
These steps combine official update and troubleshooting advice with community precautions; Pearl Abyss does not document them as an official mod-support workflow.

If the game fails to launch or files seem damaged
Pearl Abyss support recommends updating the game and, for a Steam installation, verifying the integrity of the game files if corruption is suspected. In Steam, open Library, right-click Crimson Desert, choose Properties, open Installed Files, then select Verify integrity of game files. Let Steam complete the check before launching again. Verification can restore altered or missing game files, so use the manager’s documentation to understand how to reapply or remove mods afterward.
Pearl Abyss also notes that background applications—including VPNs, antivirus or other security software, recording tools, and broadcasting software—can affect launch, performance, or stability. This is general troubleshooting guidance, not a recommendation to turn off security protections. The support guidance does not establish how mod use affects saves, support eligibility, or access to the game.
