GameLoop can install some Android APKs, but it cannot run every app or game. If your file is a standard .apk, first try GameLoop’s APK import control; if that is unavailable, try opening the file from Android storage inside the emulator. Use ADB only if GameLoop exposes a connected emulator. Even a successful install does not guarantee that an app will launch, sign in, or work correctly.
“Tencent Gaming Buddy” is the former name associated with the emulator; the current official branding is GameLoop.
Before you install: check the file and the emulator
GameLoop’s menus and Android environment can vary by build, so treat the directions below as general steps rather than a promise that every edition has the same controls. GameLoop’s Support Center covers technical issues such as installation, virtualization, and Google Play Services.
- Install a current GameLoop build from the official site.
- Check the file extension in Windows. A plain
.apkis the simplest case;.xapk,.apks, and.apkmare not ordinary APKs. - Use an APK from the app developer or another source you can independently verify. Avoid modified, repacked, cheat-enabled, or “unlocked” packages.
- Make sure Windows and the emulator have enough free storage. Virtualization may also be needed for emulator operation; GameLoop’s FAQ index covers setup topics.
- The app must suit the Android version and CPU architecture available in your GameLoop build. Apps that depend on particular hardware, Android APIs, Google components, or security features may not work.
- Do not assume Google Play Store or Google Play Services is present in every GameLoop build or region. Apps that need Google components may fail at login, licensing, payments, or other functions.
Choose the right installation method

GameLoop’s catalog includes apps as well as games. For listed titles, the catalog is generally the more straightforward route. GameLoop says support depends on compatibility and notes that licensing, developer removal, or technical limitations can make titles unavailable; see its explanation of unavailable games.

Method 1: Use GameLoop’s APK import control
- Download the
.apkfile to a known location on Windows. - Start GameLoop and open the emulator or an installed app so the Android environment is running.
- Look for a control labeled Install APK, APK, Import APK, or similar. Depending on the build, it may be in the emulator toolbar, a menu, or the Game Center/App Market interface.
- Select the APK file from Windows and wait for GameLoop to copy and install it.
- Open the app from the emulator’s app list or installed-app screen. If installation appears to finish but no icon is visible, restart the emulator and check the Android app drawer.
The control name and location are not universal. GameLoop’s support pages and catalog provide general support and app listings, but do not establish one current import path for every build.
Method 2: Open the APK from a file manager in GameLoop
- Start GameLoop and install or open a file manager that can access Android storage.
- Copy the APK into GameLoop’s shared folder or another location visible inside Android. The Windows folder path varies by installation and configuration, so use the shared-folder option available in your build rather than relying on a path from an old guide.
- In the emulator, open the file manager and navigate to Downloads or the shared folder.
- Tap the APK and approve the Android installation prompt if one appears.
- After installation, open the app from the app drawer.
GameLoop’s App Installer listing describes an Android app that scans internal storage or SD cards for APK files. This supports an in-emulator installation route, but it does not establish that every GameLoop desktop build has identical APK-import controls.

Method 3: Install with ADB
Use ADB only if you are comfortable with Android command-line tools and GameLoop exposes its emulator as a connected device. Android Developers documents these APK installation commands and device-selection behavior in its ADB guide.
- Install Android Platform Tools on Windows if you do not already have ADB.
- Open Command Prompt in the Platform Tools folder, or make
adbavailable on your PATH. - Start GameLoop and run:
adb devicesContinue only if the list shows a connected emulator.
- Install a regular APK with:

adb install -t "C:PathToTestApp.apk" - For a complete split package set, use
install-multiple, for example:adb install-multiple "base.apk" "config.arm64_v8a.apk" "config.xxhdpi.apk"
If more than one device or emulator is connected, select the intended target using ADB’s documented device-selection options or disconnect the others. GameLoop may not expose its Android instance to standard ADB in every release. If adb devices shows no emulator, do not guess a port or alter emulator files; return to GameLoop import or the file-manager method.
How to handle XAPK, APKS, APKM, and split packages
These formats are not interchangeable with a single APK. XAPK, APKS, and APKM files are containers or package sets; a split install may include a base APK plus configuration APKs for a particular architecture, screen density, or language. Renaming one of these files to .apk does not turn it into a valid standalone APK.

- If the download is a split package, use a reputable installer that supports that format or obtain the complete split set and install it with a method such as ADB’s
install-multiple, if GameLoop exposes a target. - If the archive contains only a base APK, required splits may be missing. An incomplete set can install poorly or fail at launch.
- If the file is ZIP or RAR, extract it first and inspect its contents. The archive itself is not installable.
Install an APK that comes with OBB data
Some older Android games distribute an APK separately from an OBB data file. The OBB must match the app and go in the matching package directory; it cannot supply missing split APKs, Google services, or server-side resources.
- Install the APK using one of the methods above.
- Launch it once, then close it if it creates the expected data directory.
- Extract the supplied data archive if needed, then use an Android file manager to copy the OBB into the matching
Android/obb/<package-name>/directory inside the emulator. - Reopen the app.
The exact storage path can differ with Android version and file manager, and the directory name must match the APK’s package name. Some modern apps do not use OBB files. Obtain game data only through the developer’s official distribution; an OBB will not fix missing downloadable resources or account and authentication restrictions.

Why an APK installs but does not work
Installation is only one stage. An app may install successfully and still be incompatible with the Android environment or unsupported by its publisher.
- Android version: The app may require APIs newer than the Android environment GameLoop provides.
- CPU architecture: Native code built only for ARM or another architecture may fail even if package installation succeeds.
- Missing splits: A base APK without its required configuration packages may not run correctly.
- Google dependencies: Sign-in, licensing, maps, notifications, or payments may depend on Google Play Services or other components not available in the build.
- Emulator restrictions: Games may detect emulators, use anti-cheat or DRM, restrict features, or refuse to launch.
- Graphics or hardware needs: Unsupported rendering features, sensors, or other device capabilities can cause a black screen, missing textures, or a crash.
- Publisher or server restrictions: A package’s availability does not guarantee its servers accept the client, account, or region.
- Damaged package or install conflict: A corrupt download, insufficient storage, signing-key mismatch, or attempted downgrade can prevent installation.
GameLoop’s compatibility guidance explains why some titles are unavailable or not fully supported. If the app requires a newer Android environment, unsupported hardware, or services GameLoop does not provide, another emulator or the developer’s supported device may be a better fit.

Troubleshoot common installation errors

Safety and account considerations
- Prefer the developer’s official download page or GameLoop’s catalog. A listing in a catalog does not make every third-party package universally safe.
- Check the publisher and version, review requested permissions, and verify a checksum or signature when the developer provides one. Scan the download before opening it.
- Do not disable Windows security tools to force an installation.
- Sideloading may violate a game’s terms of service, and it does not bypass licensing, region checks, anti-cheat, or bans.
- A sideloaded app may not receive updates through GameLoop’s catalog. A differently signed update or downgrade can require uninstalling the old version and may erase local data.
