Install an EA game from the store where you bought or redeemed it: use the EA app for EA purchases, Steam for Steam purchases, and Epic Games Launcher for Epic purchases. Some Steam and Epic games also open the EA app for account authentication. Before downloading, check the game’s own system requirements and make sure you have enough free storage.
Before you install
- Use a supported PC: The EA app for Windows requires a 64-bit PC running Windows 10 or 11 and an internet connection for downloads, authentication, updates, and some features. The game may have different or higher requirements. Check its store page or Game Hub for CPU, graphics, memory, operating system, and DirectX requirements. See EA’s EA app requirements.
- Check storage: Confirm the drive has enough space for the game and leave room for updates and temporary installation files. Check whether the title recommends or requires an SSD.
- Check your account: You may need an EA Account even if the game was bought on Steam or Epic. Use the EA Account you intend to keep linked to that storefront.
- Choose the right storefront: Install the game through the store where you own it. Store entitlements and add-ons do not necessarily transfer between EA, Steam, and Epic.
Download the EA app only from EA’s official page or use an authorized storefront. Avoid unofficial mirrors, repacked installers, and activation tools; you should not need to disable Windows security permanently to install the app.
Install the EA app on Windows
- Open the official EA app page and select the PC download.
- Open the downloaded installer and follow its on-screen instructions.
- Launch the EA app and sign in to your EA Account, or create one.
EA’s current Windows launcher is the EA app; Origin is no longer the current PC client. For detailed instructions, see EA’s download and installation guide.
Install a game purchased through the EA app
- Open the EA app and sign in to the EA Account that owns the game.
- Search for the game and open its page. A title appearing in the Store does not mean you own it; confirm that you bought, redeemed, or otherwise have access to it.
- Select Download. Review the installation location and available space, then choose any offered language or add-on options.
- Start the download and check its progress in Download Manager.
- When installation finishes, find the title under Installed games and launch it.
Buying or redeeming a game gives your account an entitlement; downloading retrieves its files, installation prepares them on your PC, and launching starts the game. A game in your Library may still need to be downloaded. EA explains the app’s Library and download controls in its EA app usage guide.

Install an EA game bought on Steam
- Install and sign in to Steam.
- Open Library, select the EA game, and choose Install.
- After Steam downloads the game, launch it from Steam.
- If prompted, install or update the EA app, sign in to the EA Account you intend to use, and approve the account link.
- Follow any prompts to finish launching the game.
Steam manages the storefront installation, but many EA titles use the EA app and EA Account for first-launch authentication. EA’s account-linking guide says linking restrictions can apply: to relink a different Steam account, the previous link must be more than 12 months old. Do not unlink casually; access, progression, and DLC can be affected.
Install an EA game bought on Epic Games Store
- Install and sign in to Epic Games Launcher.
- Open Library, select the EA game, and choose Install.
- Let Epic download and install the game. The EA app may open during the process.
- Sign in to your EA Account when asked and approve linking it to Epic.
- Complete any prompts and launch the game.
Epic handles its storefront installation; the EA app may handle EA-account authentication. The exact handoff varies by title, so not every game follows an identical sequence. See EA’s linking instructions.

Origin purchases, codes, and EA Play
Origin has been replaced by the EA app for current PC use. Sign into the EA app with the same EA Account you used in Origin to find eligible purchases in your Library. If a title is missing, first check the account email, purchase history, and any linked platform account. Older games may still have compatibility, licensing, or service limitations; having a purchase does not guarantee every title will run on a modern PC.
If you have a retail or digital code, redeem it in the EA app or the storefront specified for that code, then download the resulting Library entitlement there. For Steam or Epic purchases, stay with that storefront rather than expecting the game to migrate to the EA app.

EA Play is another way to access eligible games, but it is a changing subscription catalog, not permanent ownership of every EA title. On PC, membership is tied to the platform where it was purchased; a membership bought through Steam, Epic, or the EA app is not universally shared among them. Check the current catalog, terms, and checkout price on the EA Play FAQ before subscribing. Confirm that a specific game and any desired add-ons are available on the platform you plan to use.
Fix common installation and launch problems
The EA app will not install
- Restart the PC and confirm the internet connection is stable.
- Delete the installer you downloaded, then get a fresh copy from EA.com.
- Confirm the PC meets the app’s Windows and 64-bit requirements.
- If the error is permission-related, try running the installer as an administrator. This is a diagnostic step, not a requirement for every installation.
- If a firewall or antivirus appears to block setup, use narrowly scoped allow-list rules; do not leave protection disabled.
- For error
INST-14-1603, EA recommends installing the required Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable. ForINST-18-4103, EA documents downloading a fresh installer for the incorrect-hash error. Follow EA’s error-code guidance. - If installation remains damaged, reinstall the EA app.
A download is stuck or will not start
- Check whether EA services are experiencing an outage; restarting or clearing cache will not fix a server outage.
- Restart the EA app and PC, then check available storage.
- Check that firewall or antivirus settings are not blocking the app.
- Clear the EA app cache, then retry. If the title is partly installed, use its repair or verification option if available before considering a reinstall.
- Before reinstalling, preserve local save data and confirm cloud saves are synchronized where applicable.
EA says clearing the cache can help with certain stuck downloads, offline-mode issues, updates, and missing-library problems. To clear it on Windows, open Start, go to All Apps, expand the EA folder, select App Recovery, then choose Clear Cache. If the app opens, use its three-line menu, then Help > App recovery > Clear cache. See EA’s cache instructions.

The game is missing from the Library
Check that you are signed into the EA Account used for the purchase and, for a Steam or Epic entitlement, that the correct storefront account is linked. Review your order history before buying the game again. The entitlement may not have synchronized yet, a subscription or promotional access period may have expired, or the Library may be filtered or hiding the title. Refresh the app cache as above if appropriate. If the purchase still does not appear, contact EA or the storefront support with the order details.

“Create Folder Error” or an installation permission error
Confirm the selected drive is connected and writable, and choose a folder your Windows account can access. Avoid protected or read-only locations. Check the folder’s permissions; when EA specifically reports a Create Folder Error, its troubleshooting guidance says the Windows SYSTEM account needs full control of the relevant folder. Running the EA app as administrator can help diagnose a permissions problem, but should not be treated as a universal fix. See EA’s download, install, and load troubleshooting.

The firewall or antivirus blocks the app
EA lists EADesktop.exe, EALauncher.exe, and EABackgroundService.exe as executables that may need to be allowed. Their folders depend on where and how the EA app was installed, so do not assume one universal path. Add only the required app files to your firewall or security software’s allow list, and keep normal protection enabled. EA’s installation guidance has more detail.
The game installs but will not launch
- Restart the PC and the relevant launcher, then install pending app and game updates.
- Use the launcher’s repair or file-verification option if the title provides one.
- Update Windows and your graphics drivers; close overlays or background applications that may conflict.
- Confirm the right EA and storefront accounts are linked, and check EA service status if authentication fails.
- Check whether the game needs EA AntiCheat or another required component.
- If the error continues, use the EA Error Reporter and consult EA support rather than assuming administrator mode, cache clearing, or reinstalling will solve it.
Choosing where to install
You can usually choose an installation location during download, though the folder-selection screen and available options can vary by app version and game. As practical precautions, choose a writable NTFS-formatted Windows drive, leave spare room for patches, and avoid removable drives that may disconnect. Do not use a network folder unless the specific launcher and game support it.
Installing a game does not guarantee offline play. Multiplayer, live services, account authentication, anti-cheat, cloud saves, or periodic license checks may require internet access. DLC and expansions are also generally tied to the platform ecosystem where the base game was purchased; check the platform and edition before buying an add-on.
