Before you start
Installing the EA app and installing a game through it are separate steps: the app is the launcher, while a game’s files download only after you select that game. You also need access to the title through a purchase, a redeemed code, an eligible active EA Play membership, or—in some cases—a linked account from another storefront.
- Check computer compatibility. As of October 3, 2026, EA lists 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs, and Macs running macOS 10.15.8 or later, as supported for the EA app. EA does not support Chromebooks. These are app requirements, not guarantees that a particular game will run. Check the individual game’s requirements in its Game Hub in the EA app Store. - Make room for the game. Check available storage on the drive you plan to use. A game may also need space for updates or additional content.
- Have an internet connection and EA Account. You may need to connect for downloads, activation, updates, online features or membership checks; offline behavior varies by game.
- Use the account with the entitlement. A purchase is attached to the EA Account used to make it. For a code, redeem it to the account. For a game bought elsewhere, the required launcher and account-linking steps depend on the title and storefront.
- On Windows, be ready to grant permissions. If the installer or game cannot create a folder, you may need administrator permission or a different writable folder.
Install the EA app on Windows or Mac
Download the installer from EA’s official EA app page. EA’s own app files have a default Windows location of C:Program FilesElectronic ArtsEA DesktopEA Desktop; that is the app’s folder, not a universal location for game files.
Windows
- On EA’s download page, choose the PC download.
- Open the downloaded installer and follow the on-screen instructions. Approve a Windows permission prompt if you trust the installer and it requests permission.
- Launch the EA app, then sign in or create an EA Account.
Mac
- Choose the Mac download on EA’s official page and open the installer.
- When prompted, drag the EA app icon to Applications.
- Open the app and sign in. macOS may request a password for helper components or system permissions.
The Mac app only installs games compatible with macOS. Installing it cannot make a Windows-only title playable on a Mac. EA’s Mac and app installation guidance.

Install a game you own or can access
- Open the EA app and sign in to the account that owns the game or holds the eligible EA Play membership.
- Select Library, or search for the game in the app.
- Select the game, then choose Download or Install.
- Review the Install location and Language. Check the available space and any optional add-ons or additional content shown in the installation flow.
- Select Next to start the installation.
- Open the Download Manager to see whether the download is queued, active, paused or complete. Pause and resume controls are available for managing an active download.
- When the game finishes installing, find it under Installed games or in your Library and launch it.
EA’s instructions describe this Library-to-Download flow and the Download Manager in How to use the EA app. A purchased digital game should appear in the Library tied to the purchasing EA Account. Product codes can be redeemed through the Library.
If you need to buy the game first
- In the EA app, select Browse and search for the game.
- Select Purchase. If multiple editions are offered, choose Select Edition, then select the edition and choose Buy.
- Complete checkout, then return to the Library and select the game to download it.
EA also sells games through EA.com. Payment options such as credit card, PayPal and EA Wallet balance depend on location and what checkout offers. See EA’s instructions for buying games.
Install a game included with EA Play
An EA Play membership provides access to eligible games; it does not install them automatically. Sign in to the EA Account with the active membership, find an eligible title in the Library or Play List, then download and install it using the steps above. Check that the specific game and edition are included: membership access is not universal across every EA title, and access ends when the membership expires. Membership access is tied to the platform where it was purchased.

EA’s US membership page displayed EA Play at $5.99 per month or $39.99 per year on August 16, 2026; checkout amounts, taxes and availability can vary by region and platform. The same page displayed EA Play Pro at $16.99 per month and generally $119.99 per year, but EA’s FAQ also contains conflicting annual-price text. Confirm the amount and terms on the checkout screen before subscribing. EA describes eligible game access, selected new-release trials, member rewards and a 10% discount on eligible digital purchases on its EA Play membership page and EA Play FAQ.

The game installation flow lets you review the Install location before selecting Next. Choose a drive with enough free space and a folder you can write to; avoid disconnected or restricted drives. Do not assume the EA app’s own program folder is also the game’s destination. If you are already installing, use the location shown in that flow rather than relying on a generic path found elsewhere.
Fix common installation problems
The game is missing from the Library
- Check that you are signed in to the EA Account used for the purchase, code redemption or EA Play membership. Look for another email address you may have used.
- Check purchase history or confirm that the product code was redeemed. If the game is from EA Play, confirm that the membership is active and the title is eligible.
- Restart the EA app so it can refresh the Library. If the item is an expansion, check that you own the required base game.
- If it still does not appear, clear the app cache using App Recovery, then check the Library again. If the entitlement remains missing, contact EA Support with the purchase or redemption details.
EA notes that some entitlements, including certain expansions, do not appear as full games in the Library or require ownership of the base game. See EA’s missing-games guidance. Do not buy the title again before checking the account and order history.

The Download button is missing
First check whether you own the base game, whether the selected item is only an expansion, and whether your EA Play membership includes that title or edition. The title may also be unavailable for your operating system, or the app may not have synchronized your account. For purchases made on Steam or Epic, the storefront may control installation and the EA Account may need to be linked; exact behavior varies by game. Check the entitlement and storefront account before purchasing again.
The download is stuck at “Waiting for download” or a percentage
- Confirm your internet connection, then restart the EA app.
- In the Download Manager, pause the download and resume it.
- If it remains stuck, open Help → App Recovery → Clear cache, then try again.
- Restart the computer. If other downloads or EA services are also failing, check EA server status; a local cache reset cannot fix a server outage.
EA lists stuck downloads, missing Library games, offline mode and update problems among issues that cache clearing may help with, but says it will not resolve an outage. Follow EA’s cache-clearing steps.
“Create Folder Error,” a permission error or insufficient storage
Check available space and make sure the chosen folder is on a connected drive where your account can create files. Select a simple local folder if the current destination is restricted. On Windows, close the app, then reopen it using Run as administrator if permissions are the obstacle. Antivirus or firewall software may block the app; allow-list EA’s specific executables—EADesktop.exe, EALauncher.exe and EABackgroundService.exe—rather than disabling security protection entirely. Do not delete the game folder unless EA’s troubleshooting steps for your specific problem call for it. See EA’s game download, installation and load troubleshooting.

The EA app itself will not install or open
- Confirm that the computer meets EA’s app requirements, then download a fresh installer from EA’s official page.
- Close other EA processes and restart the computer. Run the installer with the permissions your account requires.
- If installation still fails, check whether firewall or antivirus software is blocking the installer or its components; allow-list EA files rather than turning protection off wholesale.
- If a previous installation was incomplete, follow EA’s reset guidance: locate the EA app installation folder, remove the incomplete EA app files, download the installer again and run it. Do not remove game files as a substitute.
EA designs the app to update automatically. If it was open when an update became available, exit and restart it. For troubleshooting on a Mac, EA identifies /Library/Application Support/Electronic Arts/EA app as the app’s support-files location; avoid deleting files there unless following a relevant EA procedure. The game installed but will not launch
- Restart the EA app and computer, then install any pending app or game updates.
- Check the individual game’s system requirements and update the operating system and graphics drivers where applicable.
- On Windows, try running the EA app as administrator. If the game offers Repair in its app options, use it to check the installation files.
- Close background applications that may interfere. For an online-dependent title, check EA server status.
- Look up the exact error code rather than applying unrelated fixes; some Windows launch errors, for example, involve missing Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables.

Use Repair when the app offers it for an installed game that fails to launch or appears damaged; it checks or restores game files without being the same action as removing the EA app. For a cache-related download or Library problem, use Help → App Recovery → Clear cache. If the app cannot open, on Windows use Start → All Apps → EA → App Recovery → Clear Cache; on macOS use Help → App Recovery → Clear cache.

If the EA app installation itself is broken, reinstalling the app is separate from uninstalling a game. Follow EA’s app reset instructions rather than deleting a game folder at random. An installed game’s updates are managed through the EA app, but saves and offline access vary by title and cloud-save settings. Games bought through Steam or Epic
Do not assume every game purchased on another PC storefront installs solely through the EA app. Depending on the title and purchase path, you may need both launchers, the storefront may initiate installation and updates, and the linked EA Account must be the right one. Follow the instructions on the game’s store page and link the accounts when prompted. An EA app-only Library workflow applies to titles available through that app, not universally to every EA game sold elsewhere.
Origin purchases and existing games
EA says Origin purchases and content transfer to the EA app when you sign in with the same EA Account. That does not mean every local game installation transfers automatically; if a purchased title is missing, check the account and Library before reinstalling or buying it again.
