VibrantDeck is a Decky Loader plugin, not a standalone Steam app. If Decky is already installed, open the Quick Access Menu, choose Decky’s Plugins Browser, search for VibrantDeck, and select Install. If you do not have Decky yet, install it in Desktop Mode first using the official Decky Loader instructions.
Before you begin
These instructions are for a Steam Deck running the SteamOS installation intended for the device. Decky says it is intended for the SteamOS provided on Steam Deck; these steps are not an official support guide for Windows, Bazzite, Nobara, or other operating systems (Decky project site; Decky discussion).
- Connect to the internet and make sure the Deck has enough battery or is connected to a charger.
- You will need Desktop Mode and a web browser to install Decky if it is not already present.
- A keyboard and mouse are optional. The Deck’s trackpads and on-screen keyboard can also be used.
- You do not need to enable Developer Mode, change the BIOS, or manually modify the read-only filesystem for the normal installation. Decky’s current instructions say an administrator or sudo password does not need to be set in advance.
If Decky is already installed and working, skip to Install VibrantDeck through Decky. If its icon is present but the plugin browser is empty or unavailable, use the troubleshooting section instead of repeatedly reinstalling VibrantDeck.
Install Decky Loader
Download Decky from the official Decky Loader repository, not a third-party download page. For a normal installation, choose Latest Release. The Latest Pre-Release option is intended for testing or as a troubleshooting step if the stable release does not work.

- Press the Steam button, open Power, then choose Switch to Desktop.
- Open a browser and go to the official Decky Loader repository. Download the installer file linked by its instructions.
- If Firefox saves the file with a
.desktop.downloadending, rename it so it ends in.desktop. If needed, drag the installer onto the desktop. - Double-click the installer. Enter an administrator password if requested, or use the installer’s temporary-password option if it offers one.
- Select Latest Release and let the installer finish.
- Open the Return to Gaming Mode shortcut on the desktop.
The graphical installer is the straightforward choice for most users. Decky also documents this optional Konsole command for installing the current release:

Use it only if you are comfortable running that command and trust the official Decky installer repository. The graphical installer is preferable if you want to handle the installer file before running it.

Install VibrantDeck through Decky
- In Gaming Mode, press the three-dots button to open the Quick Access Menu.
- Select the Decky Loader icon, usually shown as a plug or Decky icon.
- Open the Plugins Browser or store. The exact label can vary by Decky version.
- Search for VibrantDeck. If the listing shows its project or repository, check that it is associated with
libvibrant. - Select Install and wait for the installation to complete.
- Return to Decky’s plugin list and open VibrantDeck.
Decky’s documented method is to find a plugin in its built-in browser and press Install. VibrantDeck is listed in the Decky plugin database, with its upstream project at github.com/libvibrant/vibrantDeck. Prefer the store listing over a ZIP file from a search result; Decky warns against installing plugins from untrusted sources.

VibrantDeck adjusts display color characteristics such as saturation (or vibrancy) and gamma. It changes how colors appear; it does not expand the panel’s color gamut, improve the underlying display hardware, or calibrate the screen to a reference standard. It is not a game-performance booster or an FPS counter. The upstream libvibrant project describes normal saturation as 1.0 for its command-line tool, but that does not establish the exact range or labels shown in every version of the VibrantDeck interface. Use the controls presented by the installed plugin.

- Start near the plugin’s default setting and change one control at a time.
- Increase saturation gradually if you find the default image too muted. Maximum saturation is not a universal ideal: it can make colors look unnatural.
- If gamma controls are available, make small adjustments. Large changes can hide detail in shadows or wash out highlights.
- Judge the result in the game or Steam interface where you plan to use it. Check dark scenes, skin tones, white areas, and UI text, then compare with the default.
- Preferences vary by game, panel, lighting, and personal taste. A setting that looks pleasing in one scene may not suit another.
VibrantDeck is intended to adjust Steam Deck display output, but available controls and behavior can vary with SteamOS, Decky, the plugin version, and the device’s hardware and software configuration. A change may also look different on the Deck’s panel than in a screenshot or streamed image.

Decky is missing from the Quick Access Menu
- Reboot the Deck and check Gaming Mode again.
- If the Decky icon is still missing, switch to Desktop Mode and run the official Decky installer again.
- Choose Latest Release first. Try Latest Pre-Release only if the stable installation does not restore Decky.
Decky is designed to remain installed across updates and reboots, but its documentation warns that a SteamOS update can sometimes make it disappear or stop loading.

VibrantDeck is absent from the plugin browser
- Check whether other plugins appear. If none do, Decky or its plugin browser may not be running correctly.
- Restart the Deck, then reopen Decky. If available, use Decky’s reload or update controls.
- Check the internet connection and try again later if the store cannot load; a temporary network or GitHub access problem may be involved.
- If Decky itself is missing, rerun its official installer before trying to install the plugin again.
- Do not substitute an unverified package or ZIP from another site.
The Decky installer will not launch
- Confirm the installer has a
.desktopending. If Firefox added.download, rename the file as described above. - Try opening the file from Dolphin, the desktop file manager.
- Check the internet connection. If you are comfortable in Konsole, you can use the official release command instead.
Decky installation reports a port conflict
Decky’s README identifies ports 8080 and 1337 as possible conflicts. If Syncthing is using port 8080, Decky’s documentation recommends changing Syncthing to port 8384. This is an uncommon installation issue, not a standard prerequisite.
VibrantDeck installs, but the image does not change
First check whether the adjustment is simply too subtle to notice, then reopen the plugin and verify the setting in the context where you meant to change it. If needed, reload the plugin or restart the game or Steam client. Compatibility may have changed after a SteamOS, Decky, or plugin update; the available evidence does not establish one universal fix for every no-effect case. When judging the display, look at the Deck’s panel rather than relying only on a screenshot or stream.

The display looks worse or a setting seems stuck
- Reopen VibrantDeck and lower saturation or gamma, or return the controls to their defaults.
- Disable the plugin temporarily and check whether the display returns to its previous appearance.
- Reboot if a changed setting appears stuck.
- If necessary, uninstall VibrantDeck using Decky’s plugin controls, then reinstall it through the Decky browser or verified upstream project.
Decky says uninstalling a plugin removes its plugin files but may not remove other files that the plugin created.

Alternatives to VibrantDeck
- In-game display options: Use a game’s own brightness, gamma, contrast, color-blindness, or HDR-related controls when you want to avoid a third-party loader. The available adjustments differ by game and are not a single system-wide control.
- Desktop Mode display controls: These can help with the desktop environment or an external display, but they are not necessarily equivalent to adjusting Gaming Mode through VibrantDeck.
- libvibrant command-line tools: The upstream project documents
vibrant-cli OUTPUT SATURATIONfor X11 outputs. It is a technical alternative, not the beginner Gaming Mode route; the project describes it as an X11 utility, and modern desktop display stacks may use other compositor arrangements. - External monitor or TV controls: For an external display, its own saturation, color-temperature, or picture-mode settings may be more appropriate than changing the Deck’s output.
