To play Skate with a friend, add them as an EA Friend if they do not appear in your in-game list, then select them and choose the available join option. For a shared party, use Join Party or invite them to yours. Cross-play is on by default, and the game supports PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
How to add a friend in Skate
Friends from the EA app, other EA games, or a connected platform friends list may appear automatically. If your friend is missing—especially if you are playing on different platforms—add them through the in-game EA friend search:
- From the Main Menu, open Hub, then select Social & Spectate.
- Choose Search and enter your friend’s username or ID.
- Select the matching account and choose Add EA Friend.
- Ask your friend to accept the request in their game. You can check pending requests in the Requests tab.
Being friends only through a platform’s own friends list may not make someone visible when they play on another device. An EA Friend connection is the practical way to find them across platforms. EA’s cross-play and friend guide lists the current menu steps.
How to join a friend’s game or party
Once your friend appears in the in-game list, select their name and use the available join option to enter their server. The skate. Team says players can join a friend directly on their server; you do not need a server browser.

Joining a server and joining a party are related but distinct:
- Join their server: Enter the friend’s game session so you can skate together.
- Join their party: In Friends or San Van, select the player and choose Join Party if their party is open.
- Invite them: Select a player in those lists and choose Invite to Party. You can also approach and select a player in the world to invite them or join their party.

- PC through the EA app, Epic Games Store, or Steam
- PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5
- Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S
Xbox’s platform-level settings can also affect cross-play. EA documents the in-game setting under Social & Spectate > Settings; for PC and PlayStation, it also lists Main Menu or Map > General > Cross-Play. On Xbox, check the console’s platform settings. Work through these checks in order:
- They are not in your EA Friends list: Search by username or ID in Hub > Social & Spectate and send an EA Friend request. The friend must accept it.
- You are relying on a platform-only friend connection: Add each other as EA Friends so the connection is available across platforms.
- Cross-play is disabled or restricted: Check Social & Spectate > Settings. Xbox players should also review console-level cross-play settings.
- Requests or invites are blocked: In Social & Spectate > Settings, review whether friend requests and party invites are allowed for Everyone, Friends Only, or No One.
- The friend’s party is closed: Use the server join option if available, or ask them to open the party or send you an invite.

Voice chat is optional: you can join and skate together without using it. To use party voice, accept the voice-chat terms the first time if prompted, then join a party where voice chat is enabled. Controls are under Social & Spectate > Settings, including voice-chat enablement, microphone mute, chat volume, and input and output device selection.

If party members cannot hear you, check that voice chat is enabled, the correct microphone is selected and unmuted, and your controller’s mute switch and system audio settings are not silencing the mic. Updating the game and checking EA server status are also recommended. EA notes that party voice chat and other social features arrived in Season 2, so an older game version may not include them.
Platform access and subscriptions
EA describes Skate as free-to-play, online, and multiplayer. An applicable platform account or subscription may still be required depending on where you play; EA’s announcement does not specify every platform or regional case. Follow the current account and subscription requirements shown by your platform. EA’s Early Access announcement provides the original platform and access context.
