OBS’s automatic reconnect setting can recover a dropped connection while OBS is still running; it does not, by itself, restart OBS after the application crashes. For an unattended meditation stream, plan for these as separate failures: connection loss needs reconnect and network troubleshooting, while a stopped OBS process needs an external restart mechanism and a check that YouTube has resumed the intended broadcast. If you want prerecorded meditation videos to loop without keeping a computer on, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative.
First identify what actually stopped
A frozen or disconnected live output is not the same as OBS closing. Check the computer and OBS before changing settings: if OBS is open, troubleshoot the connection; if the application has exited, its own reconnect feature is no longer running.
| What failed | What may help | What it does not establish |
|---|---|---|
| Internet or connection to YouTube’s ingest server, with OBS still open | OBS automatic reconnect can retry the output connection. Check the network, ingest connection and security software. | It does not guarantee the YouTube watch page becomes live again in every broadcast setup. |
| OBS process exited or crashed | A separate process supervisor or operating-system restart facility would be needed to launch OBS again. | The available OBS and YouTube guidance does not verify a particular watchdog setup that safely relaunches OBS and restores the same broadcast. |
OBS describes dropped frames and intermittent disconnections as signs of a network problem between the computer and the ingest server. Its connection troubleshooting guide suggests diagnosing that connection; security software can interfere, and restarting modem or router equipment can resolve some connectivity problems. These are network remedies, not fixes for an OBS process crash. See OBS Stream Connection Troubleshooting.
Configure OBS to retry a connection drop
These settings are for the case where OBS remains open but loses its streaming connection. OBS’s current English interface strings identify an automatic reconnect option, a retry delay and a maximum-retry setting. The exact arrangement of controls can vary by OBS version, so use the labels in your installed version.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Open OBS settings. In OBS Studio, open Settings and select Advanced. Find the network or reconnection controls and enable Automatically Reconnect.
- Choose retry behavior. Set the Retry Delay and Maximum Retries according to how quickly you want OBS to try again and how long it should keep trying. There is no universally safe value for every connection; a retry loop cannot repair a persistent internet or ingest problem.
- Apply and test on your setup. Confirm OBS remains open during a controlled connection interruption, then check whether it resumes sending data. Also inspect YouTube Studio and the watch page: a successful OBS reconnection is not proof that the correct YouTube event is live.
OBS’s published English locale strings show the setting labels; consult the OBS Studio English locale strings if you need to confirm wording. Connection diagnosis is covered in the OBS troubleshooting guide.
What to do after OBS itself crashes
Because OBS has stopped, settings inside that OBS process cannot relaunch it. A separate supervisor or operating-system process-restart feature would have to start the application again. The available sources do not establish a verified configuration that reliably relaunches OBS, selects the intended scene and media, reconnects to the right YouTube event, and makes that event live. Do not assume that merely restarting OBS completes the recovery.

Before relying on any restart mechanism unattended, test the whole chain on the actual computer and channel:
- OBS launches after the failure and loads the intended profile, scene and meditation media.
- The correct YouTube stream key and broadcast are selected, and OBS begins sending data.
- The intended YouTube watch page shows the live event to a viewer.
- If recovery fails at any point, you know how you will be alerted and who can intervene.
This is a verification checklist, not a claim that a particular watchdog or YouTube broadcast transition is guaranteed. Keep the stream key private; anyone with access to it may be able to send a stream to your channel.

Check YouTube’s broadcast state separately
OBS sending video and YouTube showing a live watch page are separate states. YouTube’s scheduled-broadcast controls include Auto-start and Auto-stop. An older OBS forum guide describes how those settings can affect broadcast transitions, including allowing later reconnection when Auto-stop is disabled. The guide dates from 2015, so verify the current controls in YouTube Studio rather than relying on its interface instructions as current documentation: OBS Project Forums: How to stream to YouTube with OBS Studio.
Those controls can shape what happens when a stream starts or stops; they are not a guarantee that every OBS crash will resume the same broadcast. After a restart or reconnect, check YouTube Studio and the public watch page to confirm the intended event is live. Older community documentation also warns that a broadcast can eventually end after multiple hours without incoming stream data, but it does not support a precise current timeout promise.

Account for long-session viewer limits
If viewers need to rewind a long meditation session, note YouTube’s DVR limitation: DVR capabilities may be limited or unavailable for live streams longer than 12 hours. That is a YouTube viewing limitation, not an OBS crash-recovery setting. See YouTube Help: Turn on DVR on live streams.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the meditation stream uses prerecorded videos rather than a live camera, StreamNeo can loop uploaded videos to YouTube from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it supports any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, automatically attempts recovery if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera. See StreamNeo for details, or start the free first day.
